Nova felt marginally better after a shower but she was too lazy to go through the boxes for her clothes so she settled for a bathrobe. She wasn't too eager to use the bell service to call for a maid but she had no other option because she needed to eat.
Her meal wasn't brought for twenty more minutes and it was brought by a different maid with the exact same impolite attitude. Nova didn't bother trying to interact with her, she just sat on her bed until the maid wheeled her mobile tray away, only then did she stand up.
There was a corner in the guest room with a sofa and side table and her food had been placed on it. Unlike her previous room, this guest room didn't have a fireplace but it didn't matter to Nova because the lounge outside had one.
She didn't realize what was wrong with the tray the maid brought for her until she sat to eat. It was then she realized that the bottle of wine was empty as well as the wine glass brought with it, and this wasn't because of an oversight but rather because someone had emptied the entire contents of the bottle all over the food.
Nova stared at the tray of perfectly made food that had been ruined by wine, she could guess who had done it. There was no reason to report this in because she would have to report it to the same maid or another one and this time, they might not even bring her dinner at all.
So although it was humiliating and unfair, she forced herself to eat as much as she could because she was hungry and she needed her strength. By the time she was done eating, her mood was ruined and her energy was sapped, she wanted nothing more than to hide beneath the sheets and sleep to avoid her problems.
A maid came to retrieve the tray later on but Nova pretended to be asleep, she also pretended not to hear the maid insult her under her breath. Sleeping was difficult, each breath felt like she was being stabbed and it wasn't because of the terrible food she ate but the ache in her heart.
Nova reluctantly got out of bed the next morning, tempted to just disappear where no one would find her. She didn't understand why so many people hated her when she didn't even do anything - she was just trying to live!
However, she had given her word to Roan and she liked to keep to it so she went to do her morning routine, digging out a pair of old sweatpants and a cozy sweatshirt so she could get to work arranging her things.
She started with clothes because they were the things she needed most at the moment. Her clothes hadn't been folded neatly at all and instead, they had been thrown haphazardly into the box. Nova knew well that Stella had been the one to do it but she had come to expect the worst from the other so she was just relieved that she hadn't cut her clothes as well.
With her clothes packed in the worst way possible, it meant that she spent a far longer time putting them in order and it was already noon by the time she folded the last outfit in the wardrobe.
If she was going to work as Roan's personal assistant, she was going to have to dress accordingly, which meant that all her clothes were useless for that cause.
She moved on to the next step, which was taking out her laptop because she needed to research what the personal assistants of magnates wore. Hopefully, she would be able to find something close to what she found on the internet in her wardrobe, and then she would try to make do with that until she got her first paycheck.
So she searched for her laptop, the neatly stacked boxes now a mess but at least she found the trusty old thing. She had managed to scrounge up for it in her second year of college and the only reason she still had it was because it had been too rundown to sell off for profit.
Nova made a face at the ugly thought that popped up, she couldn't believe that she had sold all her valuable possessions just so that she could give the money to Levi. That was a level of stupidity that she deserved to feel awful about.
She sighed and pushed away stale old memories out of her head so she could search for an outlet to plug in her laptop. She was once again reminded of her missing phone but she didn't have the energy to search for it again; when Roan returned, she would apologize for the loss and offer to pay for it.
Connecting to the internet would have been impossible if Roan didn't have free high-speed Wi-Fi, she was grateful for it, uncaring that her old laptop booted slowly despite that.
Nova wanted to switch off her laptop when the page finally loaded, all the images she saw showed women dressed like literal models, even with her paycheck she didn't think she could afford to dress like that…
Come to think of it, there hadn't been a chance to talk about it but they hadn't discussed her pay. Nova didn't want to sound greedy but she was confident that she would be paid well, maybe she could even afford to dress like this.
There was no outfit found on the web that she could make a substitute for from the clothes in her wardrobe so she decided to go with the best clothes she had and hoped for the best.
Now that she was connected to the internet, she decided to take the chance to check her bank account. She had more or less abandoned it because Levi said she didn't need it and they had made a joint account instead, even though said joint account was made solely in Levi's name.
