Before you begin reading this book, I will warn you. This book has no happy endings. This is a sad, depressed story. In here, no one gets any benefits out of this adventure. No one is happy in the end. If you want a happy ending where the characters work hard to get everything they want, go read some of my other stories. Because if you believe everyone should get a happy ending, or that hard work gets you to a walk in the sunset, this story will crush your dreams. If you're looking for a book that ends that way, reading something else might make you happy. Now we begin in the demon palace of hell, where two sisters run into each other. Literally.
"Hey! Watch it!" Brittany snapped.
"You watch it, brat!" Jihi snapped. She was tired of her sister being so... Spoiled! Brittany was clearly the favorite child. It made no sense. Jihi was the one who was going to take over hell when she killed her father in the royal duel, but her parents clearly favored Brittany.
*she's not gonna be the one to kill them.* A small voice in her head whispered.
"Get out of my way, B!tch." Brittany shot back with a glare. She walked past Jihi. Jihi was fuming. *I can't wait till I'm queen. Then I can kill her pathetic @ss without consequences.*
Jihi continued on her way to the treasury with a deep breath. There was always one person who could calm her, without fail. She walked down the long hallways. Yes, she got lost a lot in this huge stronghold-like palace. But she always knew her way to the treasury. *Left, Left, straight, right, right, right again...* She spotted the huge treasury doors.
She grinned as she saw Kai by the door, in his armor. He was one of the treasury guards. She didn't give a shit about the treasures in the treasury. No one had ever gotten into it for years, only her father or mother when they felt like gloating or wanted to get more pocket money to spend at the market. Jihi only went in there when Kai had to check in there. And his checks ment going in, because the room was so large.
"Kai!" Jihi quickened her pace, speed walking towards him. She gave him a hug.
"Hey princess!" Kai hugged her back before giving her a soft kiss on the lips. He ran his fingers through her hair as the kiss broke.
"I missed you." Jihi said with a smile. They had been "Dating" for a few years now. Of course not publicly. Her father would literally kill her if he found out she was dating a guard. "You will be caught dead before I let you tarnish my reputation by courting with his peasant filth" She could hear her father saying. They had met when Kai first joined the guard.
Jihi was passing by the treasury when she realized there was a new guard. She only asked about who he was and where he came from, and yet was sucked in by how... non-demonic he was. Everyone in hell, the sinners and demons, was so awful. It made since, considering the location. Her family, friends, and even she was like that. But when she met him, something clicked. He was so nice and laid back, like he actually cared about her opinions and beliefs. Everyone else would just tell her to F**k off and stop dreaming. But Kai was different. He gave her support. And when she killed her father in that duel, then she could finally be with him.
"So what trouble have you been getting into?" Kai asked playfully.
"Oh you know, pranking and yelling at Brittany." She answered.
"Oh great. What have you pulled now?" He asked.
"Weeell I put a bucket on top of her door in such a way that it falls on her head when she fully opens it. And filled it with bricks."
Kai barked a laugh. "That'll get her pissed."
He looked around. "Ay, we should head in before someone sees us. Plus I gotta start my shift."
They entered into the large Treasury. Piles of gold coins were stacked mountain high, jewelry and fancy decorations littered the place, mystic weapons collected from the war of Purity and Scrutiny generations ago, all kept in here. And of course, the core.
Hundreds over thousands over millions of years ago, Demons and Angels made their way out. When they went to war over what to do with the humans, the demons preserved the heart, and found it possessed mystical powers. The demons used it to make a place in the sky for Angels, where the humans could find them, and hid down below, using the heat of the star to warm up the earth and keep humans and Angels out of their safe haven. They named it hell. It was their old language for 'leave it here'. Ironic. The demons harvested the star, giving the royal demons the power to summon hellfire in their range of sight and to teleport through flames. Until those Angels cursed it. Now all the demons couldn't get out, no matter how much magic they had or how they used it. Hell had became a prison. That's why all the demons were so nasty down there.
The core is what kept the demons alive, however. So all the Angels did was ensure that no one could get to the star and get out alive.
Jihi began telling Kai all about her day, his small comments making her laugh. They began sharing similarities of their day and soon the conversation went from their day to their weekend to the fire fields just outside of hell and planning a date there. "Ooh, I can bring those hell hog bacon you like and we can roast it!" Jihi mentioned.
Kai grinned. "Sweet!" He commented as they climbed up the piles of gold to his post.
Disaster struck as Jihi stumbled. She slid down the pile, golden coins cascading down with her like sand. She tried grabbing onto something, trying to get traction with her feet, kicking gold coins everywhere. Her foot slipped again and she fell onto her back, making the coins race down to the bottom of the pile. "Jihi!" Kai tried reaching out for her hand to steady her, yet the coins shifted under his feet.
They both tumbled down, Kai being thrown into Jihi, crashing them into the core. A few moments later, Jihi sat up with a groan, rubbing her head. "Damn it, why is this treasury so cluttered? You'd think by now we would have organized it... Kai?" She looked up at Kai, who was standing and staring at the core. "What's wrong?" She asked as she got up. A red light flickered across the room.
When Jihi looked, her jaw dropped. The core had a crack. More than a crack. A chasm, running through the side. The red light shone from within the core, the heart of it. A suffocating silence laid thickly over the Treasury.
Jihi was the first to try to speak. "...Is it-"
The entire earth shook, interrupting her. The ceiling collapsed onto them, as a large drill broke through the surface. "GET DOWN!" Kai grabbed her and threw her out of the way, racing after Jihi. They were able to dodge falling rubble. After a minute of coughing and dusting each other off, they looked up and both of their hearts stopped.
Controlling the drill was a human. No wings. No Halo. No tail. No horns. "WE GOT THROUGH!" One shouted up.
