When Mrs. Harris returned to Emma Hart's bedside with a fresh bowl of porridge, she cast a fleeting glance at the still defiant Emma lying in bed.
With a sigh, she turned to look at Damien Sterling, awaiting his orders.
Damien, with his gaze lowered, his expression inscrutable, asked, "Still refusing to eat?"
Emma Hart had no intention of acknowledging Damien Sterling.
Gazing down at Emma, who lay in the bed, Damien Sterling wore a mischievous smile, akin to a monarch surveying his realm.
With a hint of scorn, he remarked, "It's only been a day."
With that, Damien Sterling strode out of the room.
Mrs. Harris, worried, followed him out. "Sir, Miss Emma…"
"Mrs. Harris, it's fine not to eat for a day or two," Damien said coldly.
