Chapter 7 - CHAPTER 7: My Father Doesn’t Love Me

The rest of the day went really fast….Lila waited in anticipation for it to be over because she couldn't wait to get home. At that moment she wanted the cozy comfort of her bed and pillow.

They finished their work in no time and soon it was time to go home. They all had a big day ahead of them tomorrow.

Lila says goodbye to Isabel and Christine.

She notices Ron staring at her from a distance but there was something different this time….it was not the usual cold stare he normally gives her but this didn't move Lila at all, she was still angry at him!

She was angry, yet she could not take her eyes off him. They stared at each other for some minutes.
For Ron, it was a stare of sympathy rather than a cold stare.

For Lila, the fact that he looked at her differently piqued her curiousity. Even though she is still angry, she can't help but feel intrigued.

After few minutes of staring, she walks out of the room trying to showcase a nonchalant attitude.

Ron also walked out of the room and headed home. As he was on his way out, his phone rang. He pulled it out of his pocket and noticed it was a familiar number. He took the call.

"Hello," Ron said into the phone.

"What information have you managed to collect?" asked a familiar voice on the other end.

"I've gathered a lot of intriguing information that you'd definitely be interested in hearing," Ron replied.

"What are they?" the voice asked again.

"It's not something I'd want to tell you over the phone, Father," Ron added.

"How about you come down here and give me the whole scoop?" said his father.

"Yes, Father. I'll be there in a jiffy," Ron replied.

The call ended, and Ron got into his car and hit the road, headed to his father's place. The two had a very formal relationship, not at all like the close and warm bond that one would hope for between a father and son.

After few minutes of continuous driving, the car came to a halt as he got to his destination. There he is, standing in front of a tall beautiful building.

As Ron got out of his car, he took a deep breath and walked towards his father. His father noticed him approaching, and gave him a cold, unemotional stare. Ron braced himself for whatever was to come.

"Let's go in" his father said, in a cold and unfriendly tone.

"All right," Ron replied, trying to keep his voice even and his expression neutral. He followed his father into the building, his stomach in knots.

Once they were inside, his father led him into a conference room. The room was large and spacious, with a long table and several chairs. It felt cold and unwelcoming, and Ron couldn't help but feel nervous.

This had always been his home as a child, standing in there brought back a lot of childhood memories mostly the bad ones.

The room was filled with a mix of emotions for Ron. On one hand, it brought back memories of his childhood, when he had been young and innocent. On the other hand, it also brought back memories of all the arguments and fights he had had with his father in this very room. He could still remember the yelling, the hurtful words, and the feelings of anger and resentment. Now, here he was again, facing his father in this same place, unsure of what to expect.

His father gestured for him to sit down, and he reluctantly did so.

He remembered growing up without love from his father and living with the fact that his mother abandoned him as a baby. Love was something he had always yearned for but never had.

Ron's childhood had been a lonely and painful one. He had never known the warmth and affection of a loving family, and it had left him feeling empty and alone. He had learned to hide his feelings and keep people at a distance, afraid to let anyone get too close and risk being hurt again. It had been a difficult way to live, and had taken a toll on his ability to form meaningful relationships.

Now, sitting across from his father, he wondered if anything would ever change. He knew he needed to let go of the past and move on, but it was easier said than done.

"Ronald" his father said snapping him out of his little trance. He turned to face his father.

Ron's father was staring at him intently, as if waiting for a response. "Yes?" Ron said, his voice trembling slightly. His father never called him by his full name unless it was serious.

"About what we were going to discuss, you said you had some important news to share with me" his father said again with a sound of impatience in his voice.

"Yes, it's quite a lot" Ron replied.

"They don't know your organization is responsible for the attacks. They cast all the blame on Frank Meyer" Ron says with a smirk.

"Frank Meyer? That's surprising. Everyone believes him to be dead" his father says again.

"Yes, I also found out his daughter is alive". Ron explains.

"His daughter is alive?" his father asked, his voice filled with disbelief. "How is that possible? Everyone thought she had died in the fire." He was clearly having a hard time processing all of this new information. Ron could understand why.

"She didn't die in the fire, she was taken away. Not everyone knows that she is still alive but the people in the quove know about it" Ron said again.

"My Organisation will keep attacking them, the quovent must pay for what they did in the past" he father said with an angry look.

"Sending you there as my spy increases my chances of revenge. The quovent did not reconsider when they stripped me of my badge back then" he continued.

"Father, I understand your pain, I can't imagine what it must have felt like when they stripped you of your badge" Ron said, trying to empathize with his father's situation. "But is revenge really the answer? Is it worth putting me in danger?" He was trying to reason with his father, to make him see that there might be another way.

His father's expression hardened even more as he heard Ron's words.

"You're wrong , this is important to you as it is to me so you'll go back there and do this to the end" his father said, his eyes filled with rage.

"Even if it is, why does it have to be me. I'm very sure you have a lot of able men for this job" Ron slams back.

"This is not about just having an able man for the job, it's about having someone I can trust" his father said, his voice cold and determined. "You're the only one I can count on to do this, and you're the only one I know will not betray me. I know you'll do this for me, for the sake of our family's honor."

Ron felt a wave of emotions wash over him. On one hand, he felt a sense of loyalty to his father and wanted to do whatever he could to help. On the other hand, he felt this revenge had nothing to do with him and his father was just using him for his dirty work.

"Father, I understand your pain and the desire for revenge. But I can't help but feel like this is more than just about justice, it feels like you're trying to use me for your own selfish purposes" Ron said, his voice trembling slightly. "I'm your son, not your pawn. I can't let you put me in danger like this."

His father's expression softened lightly.

Wait…are you just using me because I'm a freak and you want to take advantage of my powers like you've always done?.

Ron's words seemed to strike a nerve with his father, who looked taken aback by the accusation. "No, that's not what this is about," his father said.

Ron looks at him, not sure whether to believe him or not.

Ron's gaze was intense, and his father could feel the weight of his son's suspicion. "I know you have every reason to doubt me," his father said, I want to make things right, and I know you can help me do that."

Ron bit his lip, considering his father's words. He desperately wanted to believe him, but it was hard to let go of the years of hurt and disappointment. "I... I don't know what to believe," he said.

"You know you are the reason I am like this" Ron says.

I know that, that is why we have to take advantage of what you have, your powers will help us in this mission" his father says in an assuring tone.

"I knew it, that's all that matters to you. Using me for your revenge plan" Ron says disappointed.

"You have to do this" his father says again.

"Whatever you say father" Ron says still upset.

"I have to leave now"Ron says walking away.

"Okay" his father says back.

Ron turned and started walking away, his father's words still ringing in his ears. A part of him wanted to stay and listen, but another part of him just wanted to get away from all of this. As he walked down the street, he couldn't help but wonder if things would ever be the same between him and his father. Would they ever be able to repair the damage that had been done?

He shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts. He had to focus on what was in front of him, and that was getting away from all of this.

Ron's POV

My father will never change. The only thing I ever wanted was for him to love me but he doesn't even care. The only thing he cares about is using me for his selfish gains.

I'm a freak just because of him. He made a mistake using me for his failed experiment.

He had no one else to use except his own son. Now I have to live my whole life with powers I don't want, powers I have to hide.

Injecting me with a serum made from a demon's blood was the most evil thing anyone would think of doing even to their own children.

Ron's anger and resentment were boiling over. It was true that his father was the one who had given him these powers, and he had never fully come to terms with that. The more he thought about it, the more he realized that his father had never really cared about him, only about what he could do for him. It was a bitter pill to swallow, but it was the truth.

He thought back to his childhood, to all the times he had felt invisible and unimportant. He had always felt like he didn't matter to his father, and this just confirmed it.

He kept thinking as he entered his car and jammed the doors angrily.

Ron's hands were shaking as he started the car and drove away. He felt like a bomb had gone off inside of him, and he didn't know what to do with all of the emotions that were flooding through him. He felt angry, hurt, and betrayed, all at the same time.

He turned on the radio, hoping to drown out his thoughts, but it only made him feel worse. Every song seemed to be about love and happiness, and it just served as a reminder of what he didn't have.
