Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Sell Out

Jay blinked a few times before speaking. "Nah, he crazy for real." James pulled Molly a step away from me and mumbled to her. "It seems the bite did inflict some brain damage." I raised an eyebrow in offense. "Excuse me sir, but I am a schizo. The bite does not affect me." Everyone looked at me blankly again until I elaborated. "I assume I am more conscious than a regular schizophrenic because of the antidote, but I still have symptoms." Molly seemed intrigued. "Wait. So this antidote not only gave you immunity from the virus, but it also granted you enough mental stability to function on your own? That is incredible! You need to come with us! You might be exactly what we need to stop the apocalypse!'"

James was immediately against the idea. "What?! He can't come with us! He's obviously insane!" Molly turned to him with an understanding expression. "Don't you think that shouldn't matter, considering the fate of the world could depend on this?" Erin became angrier with every word James said. 'He's making her think you're crazy! You're not seriously following her into that settlement of humans, are you?!' I didn't like the idea either but I would do anything for Molly. She turned to me again and I smiled as she looked at me. "Will you help us?" I stepped closer to her and looked deep into her dark and sparkly eyes. "I would follow you to the ends of the Earth."

Molly gave me another weird look and James waved at me in irritation. "Hello? Boyfriend. Remember?" I rolled my eyes. "Whatever, tiny." He was at least a foot shorter than me which I wanted to point out in front of Molly. The group then made their way back to the wall around the sanctuary and I followed. I was busy being both infatuated with Molly and upset that I couldn't just pick her up and take her home because of that brownie she was dating. 'You should kill him.' Erin suggested. "I can't do that," I said quietly, even though the group could still hear me talking to myself.

'Why not? With your new power, killing him would be no problem for you.' Erin countered. I sighed and shook my head. "Sure, but what do you think she'll think of me then?" James then walked up next to me and spoke with a smirk in his tone. "What are you talking about with those voices in your head, huh?" He spoke louder as if to make sure Molly heard his emphasis on the fact that I was crazy. I had no emotion on my face as my eyes went to him. "I was just explaining to them why I can't kill you." His smirk went away and he nervously moved to walk on the other side of the group.

We all made our way through the abandoned streets and eventually, we made it to the wall. The wall was made out of every kind of scrap metal but it reached over a hundred feet high and appeared very thick. I couldn't believe I was about to go to the one place I wished would be destroyed, but for some reason, all of that anger evaporated and all I wanted to do was follow Molly. We approached the front entrance where some men carrying machine guns stood around the door. Molly was first in line as the guards brought out a scanner. "Is that really necessary?" She asked. The guard nodded. "I don't make the rules." He proceeded to scan her and the light bulb on the device lit up green and he nodded for her to go ahead.

I assumed the device checked for infection, and once it was my turn the guard gave me a confused look. "Who are you? You didn't leave with the team." The muscular woman turned back to answer him. "Kane's new. And apparently invincible." She then continued to go through the entrance and the guard turned to me again, eyeing the bite on my arm. He hesitantly scanned me and the light bulb lit green. He raised an eyebrow and scanned me again, this time directly on my bite. Green. "What did you say your name was?" He asked, baffled. I smirked at him and answered as I followed the others. "Kane."

I entered through the iron door with a keypad on its rim and saw a completely different world on the inside. The buildings were still run down, but they were teeming with life. People were on the streets and in the buildings, most of them wearing camouflage army uniforms and carrying guns. There were stations of heavy artillery as well as make-shift hospitals, testing labs, and food handouts. The people who didn't wear uniforms wore clothes that you would predict someone living in the apocalypse would wear. A lot of leather for some reason. There were also animals roaming the sidewalks like cows, chickens, goats, cats, and dogs.

I looked around as I caught up to Molly, interested to know where we were going. They told me they were going to show me to the man in control of all of this and I didn't know how I felt about that. After a while, Jay and the muscular woman who I learned was called by the name of Sarah, split from the group to take care of their own business. James had decided to stay and see the guy who was in charge of the settlement with us because Molly would've been alone with me if he hadn't.

Erin wasn't happy about that. His crude complaining blended in my head as I ignored him and I followed Molly to one of the large buildings. This building was a few stories high and was heavily guarded. The army men let us by after seeing Molly and I wondered what her social status was among the survivors. She walked around like she owned the place and couldn't help but ask as we walked up the metal staircase. "You seem to have authority here," I said flirtatiously as my gaze went up her long legs to her tight ass as she climbed the stairs in front of me. She answered in a professional tone and ignored the horniness in mine. "As a matter of fact, I do hold a higher position in the ranks due to having the most accurate aim."

'She should see your aim,' Erin said abruptly. I ignored him and continued the conversation. "Is that so? Well, I would sure like to see what you can do." We reached the top of the stairs and approached a steel door at the end of the concrete hallway before she turned around to answer me. "Are you inviting me to shoot you? Because I will if you don't stop flirting with me." I noticed that Erin's behavior seemed to become even more buzzed every time she spoke. 'She's sassy too! Oh my god just grab her right now!!' I actually had to hold my wrist behind my back to prevent myself from grabbing her.

I needed to put Erin on a leash before my impulses took total control again. 'Erin is getting too much dialogue. Any thoughts, Mary?' John asked, impatiently. 'I am too distracted to think from how in love I am with this girl!' A wave of affection then washed over me again and I said the first thing that Erin no doubt sent to my mouth. "Put your barrel into my head and I'll put mine into yours."
