Chapter 1 - Birth

When somebody is born, that is a miracle.

People often question the meaning of life, or try to find some grand purpose, they feel the need to contribute, to improve, to gain fame, power, and money, that is the nature of humans. However, the very existence of a human being is a miracle, each and every single human being on this planet is a miracle, a gift from whatever gods you do or don't believe in. A gift from the universe itself. A gift from nothingness. Every human being was born, which makes every human being special.

So why do human beings hate? Why do they discriminate, fight, and oppress?

Because that is also human nature, and itis just as much of a miracle as being born.

Miracles aren't always good, a Miracle for your enemy is hardly beneficial for you.

Something being "Miraculous" means it has a low chance of occurring, for instance, you won the race to life all the way back at the start.

But, oppression doesn't have a low chance of occurring, it occurs every day, people hate things that are different.

So maybe "miraculous" is not the right word, no, it is "special".

Every human is special, and their oppression is also special.

It is amazing and special how humans can be so cruel towards others for superficial reasons such as religion, race, sexuality, or gender.

Being cruel towards somebody for something either subjective or that they have no influence over is truly a nonsensical action, yet even people hailed as "geniuses" do it.

Well, I forgot where I was going with this internal monologue, I was just spacing out on the train.

I sigh, reading a magazine, some usual tragedies were occurring, and prepared just for my reading enjoyment, as usual.

As a detective, I suppose it's my job to be invested in these sorts of tragedies, mysterious murders, heinous warcrimes, rising political tensions that would make anyone worry, I suppose it's unusual but, I'm not phased by it.

An interest in crime is crucial for a detective, yet I lack it, really, there has only ever been one thing of interest to me.

Maybe it's because of my lack of interest in crime, that I became a detective, A great detective like Sherlock Holmes would never want to end crime, because it would mean the end of all those crimes he enjoyed solving, it would put him out of a job.

Well, "ending crime" is an unrealistic and illogical goal, no different from the oppression I talked about, I suppose.

But it is a goal I will achieve anyway.

Maybe it is because it does not hurt others, unlike oppression? No, the "end of crime" would include the end of homeless people stealing food to feed their starving families, it would definitely harm people. Are these what people call "Shower thoughts?" Here I am, questioning and breaking down every little aspect of myself and society, It is the nature of my brain as a detective, to overanalyze, overthink, and breakdown minute details, and without any to break down, it will break down myself...is this the curse of a detective?

The train finally arrives, and I step out, looking around at my surroundings, the wind is chilly today, I walk off with one destination in mind.

I casually walk into a bar, looking around, there are many kinds of people, I sat down at a table and simply observed. One man seemed extremely downtrodden, his dirt covered clothes and exhausted look indicated he was likely a manual laborer.

Well, that's what anyone would have normally thought, but I noticed a very specific tattoo on his neck, one of a snake wrapped around a golden apple. I walk up to him and casually sit by him, before speaking.

"Do you seek paradise?"

"...Interesting."

His face adopts a smirk, and the man immediately ditches his downtrodden facade, looking over at me.

"What is your name?"

"Yoshi Ajichi"

"You're Japanese? You speak English very fluently."

"I speak many languages fluently."

"What're you, a nerd?"

I merely chuckle, and he sighs, shifting in his chair.

"Why the hell is your hair pink?"

Oh god, this question, of course.

"Because Somebody said it would look good with my eyes a while back, so I did it, and I liked it."

"I mean...yeah, I guess Pink Hair and blue eyes look good together but...you just don't seem like the type to dye your hair pink."

I just shrug, and he takes that as a cue to become more serious in his expression.

"Tonight, at 11:00 PM, In this bar."

He then walks off.

"I see...Eden group."

I sigh again, my face actually exhausted.

"How tiresome."

Regardless, he definitely seemed to be sizing me up, due to my short height for my age, perhaps he thinks I am not fit to join Eden group...

Well, to be blunt, Eden Group is an organization which seeks to eliminate anyone they view as a "snake", though their exact criteria is unknown.

My goal, of course, is to take them down from the inside, quite a hands on approach for a detective, this could hardly be called investigation.

Well, I am a freelance after all, I simply found a client who was willing to pay a high price for this group's elimination, so I would bring then down, surely.

For the client, the city, and myself.
