A week had flown by since his first exhilarating day in Glynda's combat class last Friday. Since then, he found himself settling into a routine, one that now included a cozy room in the teacher's section of the dorms, just across from Glynda's own abode. Although he hadn't officially taken on the title of teacher, he threw himself into the role, spending most of his time either in Glynda's classroom, getting to know each student and their combat preferences, or buried deep in the library, soaking up everything he could about this strange new world.
Amidst the hustle and bustle of his new life, there was a rather memorable incident involving Zaegar, who managed to turn Team CRDL's dorm into a chaotic mess with what can only be described as a misguided attempt at redecorating, leaving a few unfortunate students with singed eyebrows and a lot of questions.
Upon entering the classroom, Yhwach found Glynda alone, engrossed in her tablet. It seemed fate had granted him an early arrival on this particular day, one destined for adventure beyond the confines of the classroom. Today's agenda: a first-year field trip back to the mysterious Forever Fall forest of Remnant.
Glynda looked up from her tablet.
Glynda: Mr. Yhwach, good to see you here early.
Stepping forward, Yhwach acknowledged her with a nod before casting his eyes on the display. There, he watched himself maneuvering through a barrage of attacks from team CFVY. Memories flooded back of Glynda's concern for their well-being after the skirmish.
Yhwach: "You and this team seem... close. I trust you're prepared for the inevitable bruises and scrapes they might acquire under your watch.
Glynda shook her head.
Glynda: They can handle themselves, but yes we are....close. Coco is quite endearing, you will either like her or hate her.
Yhwach: What of the faunus? Velvet was it?
Yhwach asked her, keen to see how she sees faunus kind. Despite all the time he spent in the class with her, he rarely engaged in conversations preferring to watch and listen to the others to get a sense of what he had gotten himself into. As a result, he knew little of Glynda, except for the fact that she was strict on her students something that he could respect. While he was now somewhat social, he still preferred solitude over a company or at least he preferred very few people in his company when he was not inside a classroom.
Glynda: She is....shy, but she is a fine student. However, I do feel sorry for her because of what people like Cardin tend to put her and her kind through.
Glynda said.
Glynda: Why do you ask?
Yhwach looked at her.
Yhwach: Zaegar is curious about what you thought of his kind.
Glynda looked at him quizzically.
Glynda: his kind?
Yhwach glanced at Zaegar, who was perched comfortably on his shoulder, apparently dozing off. With a slight smirk, Yhwach pointed towards Zaegar and said.
Yhwach: His kind.
Glynda's brow furrowed slightly, confusion was evident in her expression.
Glynda: "His kind"? I'm not quite following, Mr. Yhwach. Is he not simply your... pet animal?
Before Yhwach could respond, Zaegar's eyes snapped open, his serpentine pupils narrowing as he hissed in offense at Glynda's remark.
Zaegar: Pet animal?! Is that what you think of me, you pompous, sanctimonious—
Yhwach quickly placed a hand over Zaegar's mouth, shooting Glynda an apologetic look.
Ginjo: (Within Yhwach's mind) Looks like our little friend has quite the temper, huh? Reminds me of someone I know...
Yhwach: Zaegar, calm yourself.
He spoke with a commanding tone, his gaze piercing through the dragon's fiery glare. Zaegar huffed, crossing his forelimbs in a display of defiance but ultimately relented, settling back down on Yhwach's shoulder with a grumble.
before Glynda could say anything, team CFVY came through the doors.
Glynda: Another time then.
She told him before approaching the team and beginning a conversation with them.
Fox: Hey teach, it's your first day right? And on a field trip to, man you're so lucky.
Fox told him. Yhwach looked at him but gave no response.
Fox: But then again, you're going with the first years so that'll be interesting.
Coco hit Fox on the head.
Coco: Leave the new professor alone Fox.
Yhwach looked at the team.
Yhwach: No need to fret, Coco. They simply pique my interest. They remind me of someone I once knew.
The group before him exchanged looks before Fox looked at him.
Fox: Was he as good-looking as me?
Coco slapped herself on the head at his reply. The Quincy king looked at Fox.
Yhwach: He was a Priest, a man named Freed Sellzen.
Fox made a victory cheer before doing a little dance. Yhwach raised an eyebrow at the blind fighter.
Yhwach: He had a tendency for impulsiveness when he wasn't engaged in combat.
Fox suddenly stopped before he turned to Yhwach very quickly.
Fox: WHY DO YOU HAVE TO GO AND SAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT AFTER THAT AWESOME COMPLIMENT?!
Coco was laughing at Yhwach's statement while her teammates tried their best not to smile and Glynda was holding a hand over her face.
Yhwach: I didn't say you fought like him.
The Quincy king told the young boy as he was raged at. The school bell rang which caused everyone but Yhwach and Fox to look up.
Coco: Alright Fox, let's get to class, Doctor Oobleck won't wait for anyone.
Coco grabbed Fox's shirt and pulled him away from Yhwach and out of the door along with her teammates.
Fox: No wait! Let me at 'em!
Zaegar: So long Loser!
Fox screamed at him while being dragged away. Velvet waved as she shut the door behind them.
Glynda looked at Yhwach, her mouth doing its best not to morph into a smile.
Glynda: Why did you have to antagonize him?
Yhwach watched as the commotion died down, his expression calm and composed despite the chaos that had just ensued.
Yhwach: Antagonize? I merely spoke the truth. If a simple statement can rile him up so easily, perhaps he has some introspection to do.
Glynda chuckled softly, shaking her head in amusement.
Glynda: You certainly have a unique way of handling situations, Mr. Yhwach.
Yhwach inclined his head slightly, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
Yhwach: As do you, Professor Goodwitch. It seems we both have our own methods.
Yhwach said as he walked up to Glynda's desk. He picked up the tablet she was fooling with earlier. Zaegar then asked.
Zaegar: What were you doing with this cell phone?
Glynda pushed her glasses back up before holding her hand out for the tablet.
Glynda: Cell Phone? no no, It's a tablet scroll, and I was arranging for the necessary materials to be placed on the bullhead before we depart for the Forever Fall Forest.
Yhwach handed it to her.
Yhwach: Scroll?
Glynda: I nearly forgot, wait a moment.
Glynda went around to the back of her desk and opened one of the drawers. She pulled out a small, white rectangular object. She handed it to Yhwach.
Glynda: Ozpin's gift for your first day as a teacher.
Zaegar jumped on Yhwach's hand and twisted the scroll before bringing it up to his face, sniffing it. He twisted back before opening his mouth and trying to take a bite out of it.
Glynda: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait! It's not to eat.
She sighed before holding out her hand.
Glynda: Give it here.
Yhwach handed it back to her.
Glynda: It's a communication device called a scroll. We use it to communicate over long distances and to coordinate basic fights with Grimm. I mentioned something about it when you fought team RWBY a week ago.
Yhwach: (Mental Link) Patience, Zaegar. There are plenty of other things in this world to discover and perhaps even taste.
Zaegar let out a disgruntled huff but settled down on Yhwach's shoulder, his interest momentarily diverted. Yhwach then turned back to Glynda, as she began explaining what a scroll is.
Yhwach listened attentively as Glynda explained the function of the scroll, his curiosity piqued by the advanced technology of this world. As she finished her explanation and retrieved the scroll from Zaegar's inquisitive grasp, Yhwach nodded in understanding.
Yhwach: Fascinating. It seems technology has advanced quite significantly in this world. Thank you for the clarification, Professor Goodwitch.
Timeskip
Once they arrived time passed quickly and soon they were on their way to their destination with the first-year students all on the flying machine. Zaegar stood in front of the bullhead, leaning against the bullhead wall doing his best not to puke.
Glynda noticed Zaegar's unease and approached him with concern.
Glynda: Not a fan of flying, I presume?
Yhwach, observing the scene with a hint of amusement, chimed in.
Yhwach: He's not particularly fond of anything that moves mechanically.
Glynda offered Zaegar a reassuring pat on the back.
Glynda: Hang in there, Zaegar. We'll be there shortly.
Ginjo: (Within Yhwach's mind) Well, well, looks like our scaly friend isn't enjoying the ride too much.
Yhwach chuckled inwardly, acknowledging Ginjo's observation.
Yhwach: (Mental Link) Indeed, it seems the mechanical movements don't sit well with him. But he'll tough it out, just as he always does.
Zaegar shot a disgruntled glance towards Yhwach, clearly not amused by the conversation happening within the Quincy king's mind.
Zaegar: (Mental Link) You two are enjoying this far too much. I swear, if you weren't so crucial to our survival, I'd find a way to rid myself of your incessant banter.
Ginjo laughed, his voice echoing within Yhwach's consciousness.
Ginjo: (Within Yhwach's mind) Ah, but where's the fun in that, Zaegar? Besides, you know you'd miss us terribly.
Zaegar then looks down.
Zaegar: It's long enough.....oh god....uhg.
Yhwach couldn't help but chuckle at Zaegar's discomfort, though he made sure to keep his amusement subdued out of respect for the hollow's plight. Meanwhile, Ginjo's laughter reverberated within Yhwach's mind, adding to the lightheartedness of the moment.
Ginjo: (Within Yhwach's mind) Poor Zaegar, can't handle a little turbulence. Looks like we'll have to add "fear of flying" to his list of grievances.
Yhwach: (Mental Link) Indeed, it seems even the mighty Primordial Hollow has his weaknesses.
Zaegar shot them both a venomous glare, his irritation palpable even through the mental link.
Zaegar: (Mental Link) Oh, what a surprise. The primitives think they can jest with me. If only I could subject them to the agony of mechanical movement.
Ginjo's laughter subsided slightly, replaced by a mock expression of offense.
Ginjo: (Within Yhwach's mind) Hold on, Zaegar. What about our rights? Your prejudice is showing, isn't it?
Zaegar rolled his eyes, unimpressed by Ginjo's retort.
Zaegar: (Mental Link) Spare me your attempts at humor, Ginjo. You and Yhwach are insufferable enough without adding poor jokes into the mix.
Yhwach couldn't help but smile at Zaegar's defiance, finding a strange sense of camaraderie in their banter.
Yhwach: (Mental Link) Come now, Zaegar. didn't you always keep saying Where's your sense of adventure? Embrace the experience then, even if it means enduring a bit of discomfort along the way.
Zaegar grumbled something unintelligible in response, clearly not in the mood for Yhwach's encouragement.
Ginjo: (Within Yhwach's mind) Ah, don't be such a grump, Zaegar. We'll be on solid ground soon enough.
The bullhead landed and everyone offloaded. Zaegar followed everyone out wobbly coming to his senses while Yhwach led up the rear of the group. They walked deep into the woods, Glynda giving them strict orders to stay with their group and gather the sap from the trees.
Glynda: -And be very careful, these woods are littered with Grimm.
Yhwach walked to Glynda's side as she watched over the students. She had taken a seat on a nearby rock.
Glynda: I forgot how slow this kind of field trip would be. It will be a few hours before everyone gathers enough sap.
The former savior looked around at the various students, none of them anywhere close to being done with their first jar of sap.
Yhwach: I can see that.
he told her. Yhwach sat down on a tree next to her and let out a deep breath.
As Yhwach settled down next to Glynda, he noticed Zaegar wobbling unsteadily towards him, his tiny dragon legs struggling to maintain balance on the forest floor. With a bemused smile, Yhwach watched as Zaegar tripped and fell right in front of him, his small form sprawling awkwardly amidst the fallen leaves.
Zaegar let out an exasperated groan, lifting his tiny dragon hand up in frustration.
Zaegar: I fucking hate flying machines...
Yhwach couldn't help but chuckle at Zaegar's dramatic display, finding amusement in the contrast between the powerful hollow's usual demeanor and his current predicament. With a gentle motion, Yhwach reached down and picked up Zaegar with one hand, lifting him up effortlessly.
Yhwach: Easy there, Zaegar. You'll get used to it eventually.
Ginjo's voice echoed within Yhwach's mind, his amusement evident in his tone.
Ginjo: (Within Yhwach's mind) Looks like our scaly hollow still needs to work on his landing skills. Maybe we should enroll him in a dragon flight school.
Yhwach chuckled inwardly at Ginjo's jest, shaking his head slightly as he settled Zaegar down next to him.
Yhwach: (Mental Link) Seems like the mechanical movements of the bullhead really got to him. But don't worry, Zaegar. We'll make sure you get through this field trip in one piece.
Zaegar shot Yhwach a glare, his pride wounded by the teasing from both his physical and mental companions. But despite his annoyance, there was a glimmer of appreciation in his eyes for the support they offered.
Zaegar: (Mental Link) Hilarious. Just wait until I'm back to my normal form, then we'll see who's laughing. you bitches.
They sat in silence for a while longer.
Glynda: So, how are you liking your first day?
Yhwach glanced at the teacher he was assisting, but Zaegar beat him to the response.
Zaegar: Absolutely fucking dreadful. Bloody hell, what's with this lousy excuse for a field trip? Who in their right fucking mind thought this stupid fucking contraption was a good idea, and who the actual fuck approved its use? It's utter fucking bullshit.
Glynda looked at Zaegar, her eyes widening in shock at his foul language. It was clear that she was taken aback.
Glynda: My word...
Ginjo: (Within Yhwach's mind) Oh, this is too good! I never thought I'd hear such colorful language from our esteemed Primordial Hollow. Bravo, Zaegar, bravo!
Yhwach couldn't help but chuckle inwardly at Ginjo's reaction, finding a strange sense of amusement in the absurdity of the situation. Meanwhile, Glynda composed herself, clearing her throat before addressing Zaegar with a stern expression.
Glynda: While I understand your discomfort, Zaegar, there's no need for such language. We're all here to learn and adapt to new experiences, no matter how challenging they may seem.
Zaegar huffed, his fiery gaze meeting Glynda's with defiance.
Zaegar: Bloody hell, you sound like a right fucking proper schoolmarm, you do you bitch.
Yhwach quickly intervened, sensing the tension building between Zaegar and Glynda.
Yhwach: Zaegar, enough. Let's focus on the task at hand, shall we?
Yhwach stood up from his log seat and continued to sense the area.
Glynda: Mr. Yhwach what are you doing?
He turned his head back to Glynda.
Yhwach: I sense Grimm, insect-like...Rapier Wasps most likely. A nest of them.
Glynda's eyes widened and she went to get up but Yhwach stopped her.
Yhwach: Don't worry, I'll handle it. Besides, a certain someone is holding onto these Grimm.
The Quincy King walked off but not before picking Zaegar up and putting him on his shoulders again, leaving Glynda slightly concerned about what they were going to do.
Yhwach walked past some of the students, his Reikaku guiding him to a higher forest platform that was too steep to see over. Yhwach turned back around.
Cardin: -See, these three have rubbed me the wrong way. So you're going to help me pick who I want to....take my anger out on. The new teacher, or your red-headed partner. Who's gonna get a box full of stingers?
Yhwach's expression darkened as he listened to Cardin's menacing words, his grip tightening on Zaegar's scaled form perched upon his shoulder. Within the confines of their mental link, Ginjo's voice resonated with a mixture of shock and amusement.
Ginjo: (Within Yhwach's mind) Whoa there, Zaegar. Let's not take this too far now. Murdering Cardin and destroying the school and the planet might be a tad excessive, don't you think?
Yhwach nodded inwardly, his thoughts aligning with Ginjo's.
Yhwach: (Mental Link) Indeed, Zaegar. As much as Cardin's behavior warrants retribution, we mustn't stoop to his level. There are other ways to handle this situation.
Zaegar's eyes glinted with a fiery rage, his thoughts pulsating with malevolent intent.
Zaegar: (Mental Link) But this insolent fucking stupid human dares to threaten us! He deserves nothing less than the wrath of the Primordial Hollow! I'll fucking tear him limb from limb and scatter his remains to the winds!
Yhwach and Ginjo exchanged a concerned glance, recognizing the severity of Zaegar's fury.
Yhwach: (Mental Link) Easy, Zaegar. We understand your anger, but violence isn't always the answer. Let's find a way to diffuse the situation without resorting to extreme measures.
Ginjo: (Within Yhwach's mind) Yeah, Zaegar. Let's not forget, that we're here to guide Yhwach through his new role as a teacher. Let's set a good example for him, shall we?
Zaegar grumbled under his breath, his fiery gaze flickering with inner turmoil as he reluctantly acquiesced to their counsel.
The leader of team CRDL threatening someone to do his own dirty work. After a few moments, Zaegar's new ears picked up another voice, the leader of team JNPR screaming
Jaune: NO!
before his sensitive hearing picked up the sound of glass shattering.
Cardin: *Angry Cardin noises*
Cardin started to make angry noises and Yhwach immediately jumped into action. Within a few short seconds, he had made it up the small but steep cliff side and behind Cardin without anyone seeing him, giving the appearance that he just appeared out of thin air. He reached out and grabbed the with-drawn fist of Cardin, who was standing over Jaune. Zaegar's nose was filled with the smell of the tree sap and his gaze made it to Cardin's still-dented chest plate which had a splatter of the sap on it. The Quincy king yanked the young boy around while his teammates immediately fell backward, scampering away from the backside of the new teacher. Cardin's face melted into fear as he grabbed his other hand's wrist and tried to pull away from Yhwach.
Yhwach: I warned you, Cardin. I warned you about abusing your power over others. Yet, you chose not to heed my words.
Yhwach let go of Cardin's wrist letting him fall to the ground. Before Yhwach could do anything, a low growl came from the forest. A Ursa came stomping out of the forest, sniffing the air before locking eyes on the sap on Cardin's chest.
The Ursa reared on his hind legs, roaring in hunger, before stomping down on the ground and charging at Cardin. The young bully started to scamper backward, not able to get off the ground out of fear. The massive Grimm loomed over him and Cardin covered his face to protect himself, but no pain ever came. He moved his arms to find Yhwach standing in front of him with his arm between the teeth of the Ursa.
Cardin: Wha-What?
Yhwach looked back at Jaune and Cardin, only able to turn enough to see them with one eye.
Yhwach: Go! This creature is mine!
The two didn't have to think twice as they both scrambled to their feet and ran down to the other students.
As Zaegar jumped off Yhwach's shoulder and landed in front of the Ursa, a bloodthirsty grin spread across his draconic features. With a fierce glint in his eyes, he turned to Yhwach and spoke with a tone dripping with confidence.
Zaegar: Let me deal with this bitchless knockoff fucking hollow, Yhwach. I'll show him the true power of a Primordial Hollow.
Ginjo's voice echoed within Yhwach's mind, his tone tinged with unease.
Ginjo: (Within Yhwach's mind) Uh, Yhwach... I'm starting to have second thoughts about encouraging Zaegar's involvement here. This might get messy...
Yhwach watched with a mixture of astonishment and apprehension as Zaegar lunged at the Ursa, his tiny dragon hands tearing into the Grimm's flesh with savage ferocity. Each swipe of his claws left deep gashes in the creature's hide, while his stomping feet created craters in the forest floor with each brutal impact. The sight was both awe-inspiring and unsettling, as Zaegar unleashed a level of violence that seemed incongruous with his diminutive size.
Zaegar's tiny jaws snapped at the Ursa's neck, tearing and rending until finally, with a sickening crunch, he ripped the Grimm's head clean off. Without hesitation, he devoured the creature's remains whole, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction as he turned to look at Yhwach, a happy smile gracing his draconic features.
Yhwach couldn't help but feel a sense of unease at the display of carnage before him, his expression reflecting a mix of astonishment and concern. Beside him, Ginjo's voice echoed with a similar sentiment, his tone mirroring Yhwach's own apprehension.
Ginjo: (Within Yhwach's mind) Well, that was...unexpected. I didn't realize our little friend had such a...voracious appetite. Are you sure we can trust him not to turn that bloodlust on us?
Zaegar, seemingly oblivious to Yhwach and Ginjo's concerns, continued to gaze at Yhwach with an innocent expression as if expecting praise for his display of prowess.
Yhwach: Zaegar... That was... unexpected.
Ginjo: (Within Yhwach's mind) Unexpected is an understatement. I've never seen anything like it... What in the world have we gotten ourselves into?
Zaegar: Worthless fucking creature, not even satisfying to kill.
Zaegar followed Yhwach who made his way back to the rest of the first-year group. He slid down the steep incline, where several students were looking at him in awe. The new teacher came to a stop as he looked at the faces of teams RWBY, JNPR, and CRDL.
Yhwach: Jaune, Cardin... I need a word with you both.
Yhwach walked past them and away from the group.
Jaune and Cardin looked at each other before gulping and following Yhwach. He stood waiting for the two in front of a large tree. They walked up to the newest teacher of Beacon and stood, silently lest they be foolish enough to make Zaegar angry.
Yhwach: Cardin, what were you planning on doing with a nest of Rapier Wasps?
Yhwach asked him. Cardin
Cardin: I-I-
Zaegar: OUT WITH IT, YOU FUCKING STUPID MOTHERFUCKING COWARD.
Yhwach: Ignore Zaegar's outburst, it was rhetorical. Using Grimm against fellow students or faculty is unacceptable, Cardin. And Jaune, fabricating documents to enter Beacon won't go unnoticed.
Jaune's eyes widened in realization.
Jaune: Y-you knew?
Zaegar: Duh I'm a now dragon, remember? All of my senses are heightened far beyond your pitiful human senses. That includes hearing. So....what do you two dumb and dumber have to say?
Cardin and Jaune started to stutter incoherently.
Zaegar: QUIET, YOU BITCHES.
The two silenced themselves immediately.
Yhwach: I'll handle this, Zaegar. Your actions could have resulted in expulsion, had Glynda discovered them. But I'm not her, and I won't tolerate bullying or incompetence. Cardin, show respect to your peers. Jaune, prove your worth at Beacon or face consequences. Otherwise, I'll let Zaegar handle you like he would a Grimm.
Yhwach finished before walking away.
Jaune: W-what w-would t-that be?
Jaune asked the mage.
Zaegar turned around from Yhwach's shoulder and with a dark cute smile told them.
Zaegar: Have fun.
Yhwach: Get yourself cleaned up Cardin. That sap is a magnet for Grimm.
Jaune: You know...I don't want to know what he means by that.
Jaune said out loud.
Cardin: Me either, so...truce?
Cardin asked Jaune, as he watched Yhwach walk away.
Jaune: Yeah, truce.
Jaune turned back to the bully and the two shook hands.
Yhwach returned to where Glynda was and sat back down at his log.
Glynda: Did you find the nest?
Yhwach regarded her.
Yhwach: It was an abandoned nest, no Grimm in sight, just traces of their presence. However, it appears Winchester encountered a mishap and got some sap on himself. I intervened when an Ursa approached him, but that was the extent of it.
Glynda: Well it's good that you went that way.
Glynda told him as her fellow teacher hunched forward, once again bored.
After another hour, Glynda gathered all the students and they all boarded the bullhead with their jars of sap in hand. Cardin passed Yhwach as he boarded, his chest plate now clean and his eyes glued to the teacher. The Quincy king nodded to him before following the end of the trail of students into the bullhead.
Zaegar stood at the back of the bullhead, near a bucket provided by Glynda. The Hollow didn't mind since everyone seemed to be absolutely terrified of even slightly pissing him off and staid mostly quiet or just above a whisper.
Yhwach turned to Zaegar, who was stubbornly standing at the back of the bullhead, his eyes fixed on the open air outside.
Yhwach: Zaegar, it's time to get inside. We're leaving.
Zaegar's response was immediate and vehement.
Zaegar: No fucking way am I getting inside that goddamn fucking stupid metal contraption! I'd rather roast on a spit than be cooped up in there with all those worthless humans!
His voice reverberated through the bullhead, drawing the attention of the other students who exchanged nervous glances.
Ginjo's laughter echoed within Yhwach's mind, but this time, Yhwach paid it no mind. He knew he had to deal with Zaegar's stubbornness head-on.
Ignoring Zaegar's protests, Yhwach walked up to him and firmly grabbed his tail, intending to drag him inside the bullhead. Zaegar let out a fake cry of distress, his theatrical display drawing amused chuckles from Ginjo.
Zaegar: Nooo! Let go of me, you evil human!
Despite Zaegar's protests, Yhwach continued to drag him towards the bullhead, ignoring the insults and curses being hurled his way.
Glynda, who had been observing the scene with a mixture of amusement and concern, approached them with a small smile.
Glynda: Looks like you managed to convince him after all, Mr. Yhwach. Quite the feat.
Yhwach nodded in acknowledgment, a faint smile gracing his lips as he glanced at Zaegar, who was now sulking in a corner of the bullhead.
Yhwach: It wasn't easy, but we got there in the end.
It didn't take long to get back to Beacon, the unloading took even less time. Yhwach, Zaegar, and Glynda were left alone at the docking station.
Glynda: We need to bring these samples back to Professor Port's classroom.
Yhwach nodded, then hoisted the largest box containing the student's jars of sap, while Glynda pushed a cart loaded with a few more.
Yhwach: And what exactly does Port do with these? Are they for trapping Grimm?
Glynda: Something like that. We use these field trips to help gather useful resources rather than spend money on other exports. The council doesn't seem to mind since it saves money.
Yhwach looked at Glynda with curiosity.
Yhwach: Council? What kind of Council?
His memories thought back to the Central 46. He had heard that the Central 46 did many stupid things.
Glynda: They oversee the schools, appoint headmasters, and establish the rules of these academies. I'm surprised you didn't come across any information about them during your research this past week.
As they turned down a hallway, Glynda explained further.
Yhwach: My focus was primarily on the foundational history of Remnant and the nature of the Grimm. I didn't delve deeply into the more intricate historical texts. Perhaps I should have.
Glynda shrugged as they stopped at a door labeled Professor Port. She knocked on the door and it flung open and a man with white combed hair and a combed mustache stepped out.
Port: Professor Goodwitch, you have brought the students samples?
He asked.
Glynda: This is all of them.
She told him before pushing the cart inside of the room. Yhwach walked after her, ducking so that the beautiful mane that he called his hair wouldn't scrape the top of the door.
Port: You must be the new professor, Glynda's new assistant?
Port looked up at Yhwach as he sat the crate he was carrying down by the rest of the first-year students' sap samples.
Yhwach: I am. My name is Yhwach.
He held his hand out to shake Ports.
Ports: I am Peter Port, it is a pleasure to meet you.
Port took his hand and winced a little at the Quincy King's grip.
Port: Hohoho, you have quite the grip there.
The jolly man told him before the two let go. Yhwach gave no response and his face remained drained of emotion.
Port: You should introduce the new professor to Dr. Oobleck, he's the other first-year teacher. He teaches history. I teach the students how to hunt Grimm or defend themselves from them. I would go on to say that our teachings go hand in hand, wouldn't you say?
Port asked him leaning in with a nudge.
Zaegar: Fighting is fighting, I see no difference between combating one creature or another.
Zaegar told him from Yhwach's shoulder, agreeing in his own way.
Port looked at Zaegar with a raised eyebrow, clearly intrigued by the small dragon perched on Yhwach's shoulder.
Port: And who might this adorable little fellow be?
Glynda opened her mouth to respond, but before she could utter a word, Yhwach interjected swiftly.
Yhwach: This is Zaegar. He's my companion.
Yhwach's tone brooked no argument, and Glynda hesitated, glancing at him before nodding slightly, acknowledging his choice of words. Zaegar, however, shot Glynda a venomous glare.
Zaegar: Companion, he says. More like your irritating, chatty little sidekick.
His words dripped with sarcasm, and Yhwach shot him a warning look, silently warning him to hold his tongue. Meanwhile, Port chuckled, seemingly amused by the dynamic between the Quincy king and his draconic companion.
Port: Well, a pleasure to meet you too, Zaegar. Quite the feisty one, isn't he?
Zaegar's glare intensified, but he remained silent, opting to seethe in silence rather than escalate the situation further.
Port turned his attention back to Yhwach, his jovial demeanor returning.
Port: Well, Mr. Yhwach, welcome to Beacon. I'm sure you'll find our little academy quite...interesting, to say the least.
Yhwach nodded in acknowledgment, a faint smile gracing his lips as he glanced at Zaegar, who was still fuming silently on his shoulder.
Yhwach: Thank you, Professor Port. I'm looking forward to contributing to the student's education here at Beacon.
Port nodded, satisfied with the response.
Port: Excellent! Well, if you ever need anything or have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I'm always happy to help.
Port said before a knock came at the door and everyone turned to see a man with crazed, wild green hair and a pair of glasses. His shirt was half untucked and his tie was pulled down slightly and was also messed up.
Man: I hope I'm not interrupting. I heard that you dropped off some sap from the first year's field trip.
He told them very quickly.
Port: Oh yes, Glynda and her new assistant dropped them off. Come in and introduce yourself.
Port laughed at his colleague. The skinny man nearly ran in front of Yhwach before he pushed his glasses up.
Oobleck: Hello, I am Doctor Bartholemew Oobleck. You must be the new assistant combat teacher. It is a pleasure, professor...
Oobleck prompted for his name.
Yhwach: Yhwach.
Oobleck: It is a pleasure professor Yhwach.
Oobleck reached out his left hand to shake as his right hand held a coffee mug. The Quincy king only looked down at his hand before he looked up at the messy man. Oobleck awkwardly dropped his hand.
Oobleck: Not much of a hand shaker are you?
Yhwach: That isn't the problem, Doctor.
Yhwach pointed out Oobleck's messy hand, indicating that he should clean it first before shaking hands. Oobleck looked down at his hand, his cheeks flushing with embarrassment as he realized his mistake.
Oobleck: Oh! My apologies, how clumsy of me.
He quickly set down his coffee mug and pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket, hastily wiping his hand clean before offering it to Yhwach again, this time with a sheepish smile.
Oobleck: There, much better. Shall we try this again?
Yhwach nodded, his expression neutral as he reached out to shake Oobleck's hand, which was now clean. The two exchanged a firm handshake, and Oobleck's embarrassment seemed to dissipate as he regained his composure.
Oobleck: Excellent! Now that's out of the way, welcome to Beacon, Professor Yhwach. I'm sure you'll find our faculty to be quite...eccentric, to say the least.
Yhwach gave a slight nod of acknowledgment, his gaze shifting to Glynda and Zaegar, who were both watching the interaction with varying degrees of amusement.
Yhwach: Thank you, Doctor Oobleck. I look forward to working with you and the rest of the faculty here.
Oobleck smiled warmly, seemingly pleased with Yhwach's response.
Oobleck: Likewise, Professor Yhwach. If you ever need anything or have any questions about the curriculum or anything else, feel free to ask. I'm always happy to assist.
With that, Oobleck excused himself, mumbling something about needing another cup of coffee before disappearing back into his classroom.
Zaegar: Does he really need another coffee?
Zaegar asked.
Port: Honestly no little fellow, but Ozpin likes to give teachers a free range of how they teach. Bart gets the job done, and he does it quickly.
Port told him. Yhwach said nothing but turned to see the trail of dust the man left in his wake.
Glynda: Well Peter I hope you put these to good use, Yhwach and I need to get the classroom set up for next week.
Glynda told him as she began to walk away with Yhwach in tow.
Port: Thank you again, Glynda. I hope to see you both sometime.
Port laughed out.
The two combat teachers made their way back to their classroom, which had been empty all day. Glynda walked in first and turned on the lights with Yhwach coming in behind her.
Zaegar: Field trips are so fucking boring.
Zaegar stated before Yhwach walked up to the side of Glynda's desk.
Glynda: These kinds are, eventually the first years will go on missions with official Huntsmen and you will be going with one of those first-year teams.
Yhwach: Mission? What kind?
Yhwach asked her.
Glynda: I have no idea what kind you will go on, but it could be anything from elimination to just simply observation.
The Hollow let out a low growl.
Zaegar: If We don't get to fight anything, I will be extremely disappointed.
Glynda laughed at Zaegar's response.
Glynda: I'm sure you'll be fighting some kind of Grimm during whatever mission you're both assigned to.
Yhwach made no response to that as Glynda sat down at her desk.
Glynda: So what happened with Cardin and Jaune in the forest today?
Yhwach looked at her with a raised eyebrow.
Yhwach: You heard?
Glynda: I take an interest in my students and it was your first day, I needed to keep an eye on you.
Yhwach looked away.
Yhwach: Cardin was blackmailing Jaune into being his lackey and tried to get him to loose a nest of Rapier Wasps.
The blonde twisted her head.
Glynda: Ah the forged documents that Jaune used to get into Beacon. I wonder how Cardin found out about that?
Yhwach turned back to her with a confused look on his face.
Yhwach: You knew about the forgery? And you did nothing, why?
Glynda: Ozpin has a rule. It took some time for me to agree with him on it, but the rule has undeniable merit.
Yhwach twisted his head slightly in curiosity.
Yhwach: What is this rule?
Glynda smiled before answering.
Glynda: It doesn't matter how you got to Beacon as long as you show merit, determination, and courage you are always welcome here. That single rule is why he holds an initiation test for the first-year students, it isn't just to put them into teams. Its to see if they hold true to that rule. Though with how you treated their situation, you seem to have a similar rule.
Yhwach chuckled lightly, giving off a small smile.
Yhwach: It's like you said. It is my first day as a teacher in Beacon, Being a teacher is not something I can rely on experience for, I assume it has to come naturally at first.
He paused for a moment before he completely turned to Glynda.
Yhwach: So...how did I do?
It was her turn to chuckle as she looked up at her assistant teacher.
Yhwach: It was a test for me, was it not? You allowed me to find them so that you could test me, to see if I met your standards. So how did I do?
Yhwach asked her.
Glynda: You did....exceptionally well. You surprised me.
Glynda told him.
Glynda: I anticipated you would permit Zaegar to attack them outright, but you opted for discipline instead.
Ozpin's voice interrupted the conversation as he entered with a grin.
Ozpin: I told you he'd be an excellent addition to the faculty.
The two instructors turned to face him.
Glynda groaned.
Glynda: You were correct, as always, Ozpin.
Yhwach observed the exchange.
Yhwach: You two had a wager regarding my suitability as a teacher, didn't you?
Ozpin held his hands up, his cane in one hand.
Ozpin: Guilty as charged, but at least you passed right?
The Quincy king breathed in before sighing.
Yhwach: I feel as though I have gotten myself into something terrible.
Ozpin chuckled at his statement.
Ozpin: Perhaps you have, but is that necessarily a bad thing?
Yhwach glanced between Ozpin and Glynda before sighing once more.
Yhwach: I suppose not.
Timeskip
The weekend began quietly with Yhwach sitting at a table in the library researching the history of Remnant in more depth. with Zaegar sleeping on a pile of books next to him.
After being told about a council that governs over the huntsmen academies like the Central 46 governed the Shinō Academy back in soul society, Yhwach decided to dig deeper into Remnant's history. This academic council seems to appoint headmasters to each of the four major schools who seemed to keep the smaller schools in check. It was interesting but something that Yhwach ultimately found pointless, until he found the information on the vytal tournament.
He flipped through pages of the history book until a certain redhead and a certain blonde walked into the library. The Quincy king looked up at them while they were conversing about something but only did so for a moment before looking back to his book.
Jaune: So what are we looking for?
Jaune asked Pyrrha, who was looking up and down the shelves of books with her finger tracing over each one.
Pyrrha: Old combat books. They have information on old knight tactics. You said that your weapons are hand-me-downs from the war right? These books can give you a better idea of how to position yourself in battle.
Yhwach peered his eyes up from his book to see her pulling book after book and piling them into Jaune's hands. He grumbled lightly before returning to his book once more. He was interrupted again a few minutes later when Jaune and Pyrrha dropped the old dusty books onto the table. A cloud of dust dispersed from where they dropped and went straight into Zaegar's sleeping face. The Hollow's nose twitched and he inhaled the dust.
Zaegar: Ah-ah-ah...
Pyrrha looked over, finally noticing the long-haired new Teacher.
Pyrrha: Oh, hello Professor I didn't see you there-
Her conversation ended with a....very powerful sneeze.
Zaegar: AAAAAAHHHHHHHCHHHHOOOO!
Zaegar's sneeze was no ordinary sneeze. As the powerful expulsion of air erupted from his nostrils, it sent a shockwave through the library, blowing books off shelves, shattering windows, and scattering dust and debris in every direction. The force of the sneeze propelled Zaegar off his pile of books and sent him tumbling across the floor, while Jaune and Pyrrha were knocked off their feet, clinging to each other for stability.
Outside the library, the ground rumbled as the force of Zaegar's sneeze reverberated throughout Beacon Academy. Students and faculty alike looked up in shock as they felt the earth shake beneath their feet, wondering what could possibly cause such a disturbance.
Scene Break
In another realm, high above Remnant, the two brothers, the God of Light and the God of Darkness were engaged in conversation.
God of Darkness: Brother, do you sense that disturbance?
God of Light: Yes, it seems something of great magnitude has occurred. We must investigate.
Before they could react, a blinding light illuminated the sky as a massive beam shot up from Beacon Academy, piercing through the clouds and reaching towards the heavens.
God of Darkness: What is this?
God of Light: I do not know, but it appears to be originating from Remnant.
Scene Break
Back in the library, amidst the chaos caused by Zaegar's sneeze, the tiny dragon picked himself up from the floor, rubbing his nose with a disgruntled expression.
Zaegar: Damn dust...
He muttered to himself before nonchalantly picking his nose, oblivious to the havoc he had just wreaked.
Jaune and Pyrrha creeped out from under the table which was now lodged between the floor and a bookshelf with wide eyes and scared expressions.
Yhwach approached them calmly, the book in his hands closed with an air of tranquility as if Zaegar's antics were nothing out of the ordinary.
Yhwach: Are you two unharmed?
They responded with weary groans, still recovering from the disruption.
He assisted them in gathering their scattered books, his demeanor steady.
Yhwach: I presume you're aiding Jaune with his training. How is his progress thus far?
Pyrrha: Well enough for a day, he's quite motivated after yesterday. I have a feeling you were the reason for that.
Yhwach: I'll take some credit, but his drive mostly comes from within. You two are searching for old combat manuals for knights, correct?
He gestured towards the book he handed Pyrrha. Jaune dumped the remaining books onto the table.
Jaune: Yeah, initially, we thought something like Pyrrha's techniques might work for me, but my gear is more antiquated and cumbersome than hers.
Yhwach: Trying to emulate her style wouldn't suit you regardless.
Yhwach remarked, picking up a book and flipping through its pages.
Jaune: Why not?
Jaune inquired.
Yhwach: Your physiology differs from hers. You wouldn't execute certain maneuvers properly.
He explained, scanning the text.
Yhwach: Moreover, these techniques predate modern firearms, rendering them obsolete by contemporary standards.
Jaune's expression fell. Yhwach tossed the book onto the table.
Yhwach: To be effective with your equipment, you must develop your unique style. Begin with the fundamentals from Pyrrha or the manuals, then adapt them to suit your needs. Consider upgrading to lighter, sturdier materials if feasible.
Jaune dropped his head.
Jaune: Oh...that's going to take a while.
Pyrrha put a hand on his shoulder.
Pyrrha: Nothing good comes easily. Come on, we can get started now if you want.
The blonde-haired boy shook his head, and the two began to walk away.
Yhwach: Jaune.
The two students turned back to find Yhwach walking with them.
Yhwach: As your new combat teacher, I offer my assistance in your training, should you desire it.
He immediately regretted the words that came out of his mouth.
Scene Break - Emerald Forest
Yhwach stood in front of a now shield and sword-baring Jaune. He was standing with his shield in front of him but close to his chest and his sword held out just to the side of the shield. The boy was crouched down in an awkward stance, he was leaned forward and his feet were side by side with just a few feet in between them.
Pyrhha was nearby, leaning against a tree along with Zaegar sitting on top of her head to which she didn't even question him due to what he did earlier.
As Yhwach circled Jaune, he made no immediate response to the boy's inquiry. Instead, he silently analyzed Jaune's stance, his expression betraying none of his thoughts.
When Jaune sought feedback, Yhwach moved swiftly behind him, unseen. Without warning, a sudden force pushed against Jaune's back, causing him to stumble.
Yhwach's voice cut through the air with precision.
Yhwach: Your balance is lacking. Widen your stance for better stability. And your shield—too close to your chest. If someone hit your shield it would bounce backwards and hit your head.
Yhwach tapped his temple as he elaborated on his previous critique, then strode over to Jaune and hoisted him up by the back of his hoodie.
He adjusted Jaune's shield, nudging his legs into a broader stance with his foot. After giving him a gentle shove on the shoulder, Yhwach observed as Jaune managed to maintain his balance.
Yhwach: Impressive. Now, advance a step and maintain that stance.
Yhwach stood to the side while Jaune took a slow step forward coming into almost the same stance. The Quincy King nodded once before he motioned for Pyrrha to take over.
Jaune: Where did you learn all this?
Jaune asked while he took a few steps backward.
Yhwach paused for a moment, contemplating Jaune's question. His eyes, usually sharp and calculating, softened with a hint of reminiscence.
Yhwach: My knowledge comes from centuries of experience, Jaune. I have seen countless battles, studied various forms of combat, and honed my skills through rigorous training. But more importantly, I have learned from my mistakes.
He spoke with a quiet intensity, his gaze locked onto Jaune's.
Yhwach: Every defeat, every setback, has been a lesson in itself. And it is through these lessons that I have grown stronger.
With a flick of his wrist, Yhwach summoned a small orb of reishi, letting it hover above his palm. Jaune watched in awe as the reishi danced and shifted, manifesting the sheer power and mastery Yhwach possessed.
Yhwach: But knowledge alone is not enough. It must be applied, refined, and adapted to the situation at hand.
He closed his fist, dissipating the orb of energy, and approached Jaune with a determined stride.
Yhwach: So, Jaune Arc, if you wish to excel in combat, you must be willing to learn, to adapt, and to persevere. No matter the obstacles you face, remember that true strength lies not in power alone, but in the will to overcome.
With those words, Yhwach extended a hand to Jaune.
Yhwach: Now, let us continue your training.
Eventually, Jaune got down the basics of standing, moving, and a three-step fighting advance. Yhwach left them to practice and went back to the school.
Scene Break - Glynda's classroom
Glynda leaned against her desk while pressing buttons on a tablet in her hands. Yhwach stepped inside the classroom.
Yhwach: My apologies for the delay, Glynda. It appears you've beaten me once again.
Glynda: You're not late, Mr. Yhwach. I've only just arrived myself.
She told him looking up from the tablet.
Glynda: Step into the arena, these new features are interesting, to say the least
Yhwach did as she said and his scroll immediately synced to the screen above the arena showing his normal icon and green bar.
Yhwach: These new installations, what purpose do they serve?
Glynda: They use dust to create different effects on the arena. Like weather conditions, extreme environmental changes, and even higher gravity it seems.
Glynda said as she pressed a few buttons.
Glynda: Should we start there?
Zaegar: Make it Gravity.
Glynda nodded her head as she listened to Zaegar's suggestion and she pressed another button on her tablet.
Yhwach felt the weight of gravity increase suddenly, his attire stiffening and his cape drooping further towards the ground. However, he remained steadfast, refusing to yield. Glynda observed his reaction, puzzled. She pressed the button again, intensifying the gravitational force, causing Yhwach to grunt as he felt the pressure increasing.
Yhwach: The gravity is functional, Glynda. There's no need to persist in attempting to bring me to my knees.
His voice was resolute, despite the strain evident in his movements.
Glynda: Functional? The tablet indicates it's set to 9.9 times the normal gravity of Remnant, yet you're still standing.
Yhwach exerted effort to move his hand from his pocket, the fabric feeling more akin to stone than cloth.
Yhwach: I am resilient.
He stated firmly, though his hand trembled slightly under the oppressive force of gravity.
Ginjo's voice echoed within Yhwach's mind, a warning tinged with concern.
Ginjo: (Within Yhwach's mind ) Hey, Yhwach. Zaegar's got that evil grin again. And he's staring right at you.
Yhwach's senses heightened as he processed Ginjo's warning. He turned his attention to Zaegar, whose gaze bore into him with a mischievous glint. Before Yhwach could utter a word of caution, Zaegar's expression darkened as he initiated the maximum gravity setting.
Yhwach's body felt as though it were being crushed under an immense weight, the force pressing down on him with relentless intensity. He gritted his teeth against the pain, refusing to succumb to the overwhelming pressure.
Yhwach: Don't even think-
Yhwach began, but before he could finish his sentence, Zaegar unleashed the full force of gravity upon him.
As the gravity reached its maximum intensity, Yhwach felt the full weight of the force bearing down on him, threatening to crush his resolve. Despite the immense pressure, he refused to yield, his determination unwavering.
Glynda, sensing the situation escalating, swiftly intervened. With a swift motion, she snatched the tablet from Zaegar's grasp and deactivated the gravity setting. Instantly, the oppressive force lifted.
Yhwach's muscles relaxed as the weight lifted, allowing him to straighten his posture once more. He cast a fierce glare at Zaegar, a silent warning echoing within his eyes.
Meanwhile, Zaegar, seemingly unaffected by Yhwach's glare, began to dance around in a playful manner, his movements light and carefree. Glynda watched with amusement, a small smile playing at the corners of her lips.
Ginjo's voice sounded within Yhwach's mind once more, a mixture of amusement and exasperation.
Ginjo: (Within Yhwach's mind) Look at him go, Yhwach. Looks like someone's enjoying themselves a bit too much.
Yhwach's expression darkened as Zaegar's antics continued, a vein pulsing in his temple.
Yhwach: (Mental Link) This is not the time for your foolishness, Zaegar.
Zaegar's response was swift, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
Zaegar: (Mental Link) Oh, lighten up, Yhwach. You're always so serious. It's good to have a little fun once in a while, don't you think?
Yhwach clenched his fists, his patience wearing thin.
Yhwach: (Mental Link) Your idea of "fun" nearly cost me dearly just now. Do not test my patience, Zaegar.
Zaegar: (Mental Link) Oh, lighten up, you two. It's not every day we get to see the mighty Yhwach brought down by a little gravity.
Yhwach's scowl deepened at Zaegar's retort, but before he could respond, Glynda interrupted their banter with a stern gaze.
Glynda: Here. I would like to test it to be sure.
She told him as she tossed him a rock. Yhwach caught it easily.
Yhwach: Do you not trust my word even after what Zaegar just did?
Glynda: Of course, I trust your word Mr. Yhwach. But I have to have multiple tests done to make sure the machine works properly. I do not want our students to be injured by faulty equipment.
Yhwach looked at her for a moment before he looked forward once more and began to brace himself for the coming force.
Yhwach: Then let's start the mechanism once more.
Scene Break - A few hours later, Lunch
The three arrived at a mostly empty cafeteria. Most of the students were in Vale, enjoying their two days off, the ones that were here were most likely finishing projects, training, or doing assigned homework. The two got their food and went to the table to eat when a familiar voice called over to them.
Port: Hello there!
Zaegar: General Kenobi!
Port: Who?
Zaegar: Fucking uncultured swine.
The two combat teachers turned to see Professor Port, Doctor Oobleck, and Professor Ozpin sitting at a table.
Port: Nevermind that come sit with us.
Port bellowed to them.
Ozpin: Professor Yhwach, Professor Glynda. Enjoying your day off?
Ozpin asked them as he slid over some to let them sit down.
Glynda: Not much of a day off. We recently had new equipment put into the arena and we've been testing it for the better half of three hours.
Glynda told the white-haired Professor.
Oobleck: Such is the life of us educators.
Oobleck commented, taking a swift drink of his mug.
Port: So how has Glynda been treating you both? Not too harshly I'd hope.
Port laughed out earning him a sharp glare from Glynda.
Zaegar: Fucking horrible She threw me onto the arena and did a full-throttle on the new Tundra setting on the arena.
Zaegar shivered as the cold rushed down his spine. Ozpin let out a chuckle.
Ozpin: Not a fan of the cold is he?
Yhwach: Indeed.
Zaegar: Don't blame me I became a dragon....cold is not my strong suit now.
The Hollow said as Yhwach took a sip of his own drink, which was tea that he warmed up with a touch of reishi.
Oobleck: Reptiles are cold-blooded, it only makes sense that the cold is not something you would enjoy.
Oobleck said quickly. Zaegar shivered again in agreement.
Yhwach: He'll be fine in a few minutes.
Ozpin: So....the tournament starts in a few months, does anyone have any bets they would like to place?
Ozpin asked. No money was ever exchanged in bets in the Vytal tournament only satisfaction...and bragging rights.
Glynda: Ozpin!....Team CFVY...
Glynda said quietly.
Port: Finally taking part this year eh, Glynda? I'll be waiting to take my bets this year. Some of these first-year students have potential and I'd like to see which one seems to be the most extraordinary.
Port told his colleagues.
Oobleck: I believe I will be placing my trust in Team JNPR this coming year. Miss Nikos is an extraordinary student.
Oobleck said, taking another quick sip from his mug.
Zaegar: What the fuck are you four talking about?
Zaegar asked, his teeth finally quitting their insistent chattering. with Yhwach nodding curious as well.
Ozpin: Ah yes, this is your first year. I'm sure you've read up on the Vytal Tournament and how all the students will be participating in it with their teams. Once, a few years ago, I overheard Peter and Bart here taking bets on which team would win. Since no money is being traded around, I believed it to be an interesting bit of teacher fun and brought it out for all the teachers to take bets on. The winner gets bragging rights for the rest of the year and it is so very fun to watch the teachers get so invested in their desired champions during the tournament.
Yhwach: Wouldn't that promote favoritism in the classrooms?
Ozpin: I have a strict rule against that sort of thing here. You may have a favorite team, but you cannot specifically help them surpass other teams simply because you want them to win. Besides, bragging rights are such a little thing here that it's never been a problem.
Ozpin told the Quincy king.
Glynda: Do you have a preferred team?
Yhwach thought for a moment before replying.
Yhwach: No I don't. I haven't been here long enough to find a team that I prefer yet.
Port: That's normal for the newer teachers. That'll change when you finally get out on your first mission with a team.
Port told him, taking a bite of his food.
Yhwach: When will that be?
Yhwach asked looking towards Ozpin.
Ozpin: Oh, a couple of months or so. We need to ensure they're adequately prepared for a mission with a seasoned huntsman.
Zaegar: A few months? What the fuck? Who's got time for that shit?
Zaegar's frustration was palpable as he pondered how to prepare for his first duo outing with students. Port and Oobleck couldn't contain their amusement, while Ozpin and Glynda chuckled softly.
Zaegar glanced at them before turning to Yhwach.
Zaegar: What's so funny, huh?
Ozpin: Oh, it's just...well, that's months of dealing with students before then. It might feel like an eternity.
Ozpin's tone was light, filled with mirth.
Yhwach: I thought you all enjoyed teaching. Wouldn't that make time pass swiftly when you're doing what you love?
Oobleck adjusted his glasses as he answered Yhwach's question.
Oobleck: It's not that we don't enjoy teaching, it's just that some students are particularly challenging when it comes to disciplinary requirements. That does tend to drag out the days, no matter how much you enjoy what you're doing.
Yhwach looked over Oobleck curiously.
Yhwach: I see. I believe I understand what you are referring to.
Port: Do you know? Pray to tell what that might be.
Port asked him leaning onto the table to get a better ear into the answer. Ozpin jumped into the conversation before Yhwach could answer.
Ozpin: I can explain that one, see yesterday during the first-year field trip-
Students: Professor Yhwach!
All the teachers turned around to see Cardin and the rest of his team walking towards them.
Cardin: Can we talk to you for a minute?
The Quincy king looked them over before turning to his fellow Professors.
Yhwach: Don't be bothered by my brief absence. Carry on; I'll return soon.
Yhwach guided the two students toward a quieter hallway, ensuring privacy for their conversation.
Yhwach: What brings you both here?
Cardin wasted no time getting to the point.
Cardin: We heard you've been assisting Jaune with his training. Is that accurate?
Yhwach: I've offered him guidance, yes. Why does it concern you?
Cardin: If you could help him, I would like to ask you if you can help me and my team.
He said as he put a hand on the shoulder of his teammate who had a green mohawk. The Quincy king raised an eyebrow at the request.
Yhwach: What exactly is it that you want help with? You are all capable huntsmen, I only assisted Jaune due to his lack of understanding in basic combat. Pyrrha is handling most of his training, not me.
Cardin: Well....we have a problem working as a team. And, uh, you're just.... you're the only person I can think of who can nail down what's wrong with how we're fighting as a unit.
Cardin said. Yhwach's eyes widened slightly. Cardin has a lot of pride, his team not so much but Cardin has a lot. Asking for help from the same person that humiliated him three times over required a lot of willpower. Yhwach looked over the team for a moment in silence.
Yhwach: Very well then.
The team that stood in front of him exchanged looks with one another.
Cardin: You're going to help us?
He questioned, not quite believing what he said.
Yhwach: You will all meet me outside in five minutes. We will see what I can do to help your teamwork.
Yhwach told them turning around.
Yhwach: I expect to see you there in those five minutes. Now go get ready.
They all quickly ran to grab their gear, an assortment of cheers escaping their mouths which Yhwach couldn't help but feel a little happy about. He pushed down the want to smile and walked back to his table.
Glynda: What did they want?
Glynda asked him as he reached their table.
Yhwach: Advice. Now if you will excuse me, I have some expertise that needs to be shared.
He told them, not bothering to sit down. He picked up his plate and Zaegar and walked away, tossing what little was left of his food and Zaegar into the trash.
As Yhwach discarded his plate and Zaegar into the trash can, Zaegar erupted in a fit of adorable rage, his tiny voice echoing in the cafeteria.
Zaegar: What the heck, Yhwach?! You're just going to leave without finishing your food? I was still eating!
Zaegar's tiny wings fluttered frantically as he hovered in mid-air, his eyes ablaze with indignation.
Ginjo's laughter reverberated within Yhwach's mind, amused by Zaegar's outburst.
Ginjo: (Within Yhwach's mind) Ha! Looks like someone's upset about being tossed out with the trash.
Yhwach shot a resigned glance at Zaegar, his expression betraying a hint of amusement despite the situation.
Yhwach: My apologies, Zaegar. I'll make it up to you later.
But Zaegar wasn't about to let it go that easily. He continued his tirade, his tiny form trembling with fury.
Zaegar: Make it up to me? How about not tossing me in the trash in the first place, huh? And what about my food? I was enjoying that!
His voice rose to a squeaky crescendo as he ranted, drawing the attention of nearby students who couldn't help but chuckle at the spectacle.
Yhwach sighed, realizing he would have to endure Zaegar's wrath until the tiny dragon had vented his frustrations. With a resigned shrug, he turned to leave the cafeteria, Zaegar still fuming at his side.
Yhwach: Fine, fine. We'll get you something else to eat later. Just calm down, Zaegar.
The four professors looked at each other in confusion before they all quickly followed suit, curious about what he would be doing with team CRDL.
Scene Break - The Courtyard
Yhwach stood in front of team CRDL, they were out of breath from having to run to meet the Quincy king's time requirement of five minutes. The other four professors he was talking with were watching from a distance.
Yhwach cast his eye to the clock on Ozpin's tower.
Yhwach: Four minutes and thirty-five seconds. Cutting it close, but you all made it. You're determined, good.
Yhwach said to them.
Yhwach: When you are ready, attack me.
The team looked at him in worry.
Cardin: Attack you?
The Quincy king put his hands up and beckoned them to fight.
Yhwach: If I am to gauge what your weaknesses are in your teamwork I need to properly see them. There is no better way to test those weaknesses than in actual combat, sparring, or a true fight. Now attack me as you would to any other enemy.
They exchange glances and Yhwach already found his first two flaws. The boy with grey hair, Sky Lark, was filled with fear and hesitation. The boy with the brown hair, Dove Bronzewing, gave a smile as if he thought he could take the fight on by himself. They all quickly turned and, with Cardin leading the charge, attacked.
Yhwach used his right hand to push aside the first swing of Cardin's mace, allowing the boy's own momentum to send him stumbling behind Yhwach. The Quincy king quickly brought up his foot and threw it down on the side of one of the boys with the mohawk, Russel Thrush, blades, careful to keep it on the side of the blade to avoid getting cut while also pushing it into the ground. The sudden stopping of one of his swords sent the boy flying into a flip over Yhwach sending him to the ground on his back. Twisting himself, Yhwach grabbed the wrist of the next attacker, Dove, and twisted it slightly forcing his sword out of his hand. With another quick twist, the Quincy king pushed his shoulder into the boy's chest sending him flying backward. Yhwach stood straight up just in time to lean to the side as Sky tried to drop his halberd axe down on the new teacher. Allowing the axe to just barely miss him and lodge itself into the ground next to him, Yhwach then used that to open a spot for him to push Sky backward and off his feet.
The shuffling of feet drew his attention as he threw his hand up to his left shoulder to catch Cardin's mace. He held it by the spiked end of the weapon with no repercussion of injury while Cardin did his best to try and pull the weapon free from his grip. the Quincy king let out a sigh as he quickly pulled the boy over his shoulder and onto the ground in front of him. Cardin hit the ground hard, knocking some of the air out of his lungs. Another flaw shined from Cardin's eyes as Yhwach looked down at the boy. Cardin was getting angry, too angry.
Yhwach's ear twitched as he heard the sound of clicking and the smell of gunpowder filled his nose. Quickly tilting to the left, a dust round went past his head. He ducked down as another round went where his back would have been, throwing out his leg as he did so to knock down Dove as the boy had come charging at him again. The new teacher launched himself into a backflip as another bullet came flying from Russel's other blade. He landed in front of the just risen Sky before he raised his fist behind him without even looking and hitting the boy square in the face with the back of his fist sending him back down to the ground once more. The Quincy king then quickly snatched his hand to the air in front of him. He opened his hand with his thumb and index finger remaining locked on a small dust bullet, Russel's eyes widened at the sight and he dropped his sword slightly. Another flaw, shock, and unexpected emotions flooded the boy's eyes.
Yhwach: I believe that suffices for now.
They all, Cardin and Dove begrudgingly, formed a line in front of Yhwach as he scrutinized them with his piercing gaze.
Finally, he broke the silence.
Yhwach: I must admit, your innate teamwork shows promise.
His words startled them, drawing their attention upwards.
Yhwach: However, it's not your teamwork that stifles your potential as a team.
His focus shifted to Sky, who stiffened under the weight of his stare.
Yhwach: You hesitate too often in combat. While caution has its place, ignoring opportunities due to perceived risks only hampers your effectiveness. Victory often hinges on seizing those fleeting chances.
Next, he turned to Dove.
Yhwach: Conversely, your impulsiveness is a concern. Rash actions leave you vulnerable. Patience can be a formidable ally; timing is key.
His gaze shifted to Russel.
Yhwach: You assume too much, too soon. Overconfidence can be your downfall. Anticipate your adversary's moves, adapt swiftly, and strike when the moment is right.
Finally, he addressed Cardin.
Yhwach: Your temper is a liability. Controlled anger can fuel determination, but unchecked fury clouds judgment. I speak from experience.
He backed away as his words sunk in.
Yhwach: You all work well together, you each have strengths that can cover another's weaknesses. That is good, but do not allow those weaknesses to overpower your teammate's strength. If you can manage to control those weaknesses, your teamwork will improve dramatically. Sky if you wish to improve on your courage, confront some of your fears head-on and turn your fear into something that helps you be cautious instead of afraid. Dove, temper your brashness. Steady your thoughts and remain calm in the face of an enemy. Russel, learn more about what you don't understand. Disregard your own expectations and think three moves ahead instead of one. Cardin....you must find a way to find peace. Anger is a natural thing, but learning to control it is a challenge. If you can master it, your skills as a fighter and a leader are bound to improve. Do you all understand?
They all nodded.
Yhwach: Good, now go do something with your weekend. Training all the time is alright, but learning to enjoy yourself in between those sessions is just as important.
The Quincy king told them shooing him away with his hand. The team looked at each other before smiling and running off to do something "fun" as Yhwach imagined them to. Well, all of them except for Cardin. He stood in the still, with his head down.
Yhwach waited for him to leave, but he did nothing.
Yhwach: Cardin, did my words dig too deep?
Cardin said nothing and remained still.
Yhwach: I understand that it hurt your pride to be told your weaknesses, and to ask for my help but-
Cardin: I asked for your help because my team needed help. I do put their well-being over my own pride. I'm not that selfish.
Cardin interrupted him.
Cardin: Yeah, it did hurt my pride. But you're right, I do have anger issues. I already knew that it didn't hurt to be called out on that. I just...I just don't know what to do about them.
Yhwach tilted his head
Yhwach: You don't know how to overcome your anger?
Cardin clenched his fist shut as his obvious problem was stated out loud. Yhwach noticed this and tilted his head back upright. He walked over to the boy and stood in front of him, he placed his hand on his shoulder and began to speak.
Yhwach: You need only ask and I will do my best to help you with that anger. I say this knowing full well that your pride makes it hard to ask for help. My own pride is the same way, but if you are to get past your anger you must first get past your pride.
Cardin said nothing for a moment and Yhwach took his hand off his shoulder.
Yhwach sighed and turned around.
Yhwach: You know where to find me once you're ready.
The Quincy king started to walk away when he heard Cardin speak up.
Cardin: Tomorrow? At the same time right here.....will you help me?
Yhwach turned his head back to the boy.
Yhwach: Same time, same place.
He confirmed Cardin's question and the boy smiled.
Yhwach: Be ready to have yourself tested and tried. The road you are about to begin is a long one.
Cardin: Sir Yes sir! I'll be ready.
Cardin told his professor before turning and running after his teammates.
Yhwach began to walk and found himself in front of his fellow teachers, all of whom had pleased grins on their faces.
Yhwach: What?
He asked them.
Ozpin: Oh nothing.
Ozpin said.
Oobleck: Yes, yes, nothing at all.
Oobleck told him.
Glynda: We were just enjoying the view.
Glynda confirmed.
Port: There's nothing better than it after all.
Port laughed out in agreement with Glynda.
Yhwach sighed, knowing full well that they were pleased with his teachings.
Yhwach: Back to the classroom then Glynda?
He looked to his fellow teacher. She nodded and the five of them went back to their normal Saturday workings.
Yhwach Oh and Ozpin.
Yhwach stopped walking for a moment, not bothering to look back, and addressed the headmaster before he could get too far. Ozpin turned and looked back at Yhwach.
Yhwach: I'll be placing my bet on team CRDL.
