Chapter 322 - Chapter 322: Gringotts

When the diary was mentioned, they immediately recalled how it had surfaced.

Voldemort had entrusted the diary to Lucius Malfoy, who then handed it over to Ginny Weasley, leading to a series of subsequent events.

Given this precedent, it was entirely possible that Voldemort had entrusted other Horcruxes to his subordinates.

However, Voldemort wouldn't just hand a Horcrux to anyone indiscriminately.

He would only entrust such significant items to his most loyal and trusted followers.

For instance, Lucius Malfoy, who received the diary, or Barty Crouch Jr., who infiltrated Hogwarts, or Severus Snape, or Antonin Dolohov, Bellatrix Lestrange, Rabastan Lestrange, and others.

Of course, individuals like Barty Crouch Jr., Severus Snape, and Antonin Dolohov, who did not come from long-established pure-blood families, would have only ordinary vaults in Gringotts.

In contrast, families like the Malfoys, Lestranges, Crabbes, and Goyles, being historically significant pure-blood families, had the largest and most luxurious vaults at the lowest levels of Gringotts, with the strictest security.

If Voldemort were to hide a Horcrux, it was highly likely to be in one of these vaults.

From analyzing the Death Eaters' situations, it became clear that the most trusted and loyal subordinate to Voldemort was Bellatrix Lestrange.

She was one of the few known female Death Eaters and was among the most dangerous and cruel of Voldemort's followers.

It was said that she was infatuated with Voldemort and wished to be his lifelong companion.

Additionally, her husband Rodolphus Lestrange and his brother Rabastan were also Death Eaters.

While other families could have also been entrusted with Horcruxes, the Lestrange vault seemed the most likely candidate.

In reality, hiding a Horcrux in a Gringotts vault was just one possibility. However, the likelihood was high and certainly worth investigating.

Therefore, after destroying the Slytherin locket, Alaric decided to personally take Cho Chang and Penelope to Gringotts.

Before doing so, he felt it was necessary to make some preparations.

Gringotts was one of the most tightly guarded places in the wizarding world, even employing dragons or sphinxes to guard the vaults.

For Alaric, these magical creatures were not a significant obstacle.

However, Gringotts also had various detectors and other surveillance measures, which were the real challenge.

If Alaric decided to break into Gringotts forcefully, he was confident he could succeed, as no one could stop him for a short period.

However, this would lead to troublesome consequences. Gringotts was the only wizarding bank and represented the power of the goblins.

While goblin power might not match that of all witches and wizards, it was still a formidable magical race.

Moreover, forcibly breaking into Gringotts would have severe repercussions in the wizarding world.

If he did so, he would be labeled as a Dark wizard and a fugitive, essentially isolating himself from the entire wizarding community.

While he might not care about this, his loved ones had families and lives in the community.

Of course, Alaric could choose to disguise himself or remain unseen.

However, while appearances could be disguised, abilities were fixed. Apart from Dumbledore and Voldemort, only he could break into Gringotts and make a successful escape.

If he accidentally used unique magic, like gravity or time magic, during the break-in, it would mean he could no longer use such magic in front of others.

So, he opted for a stealth approach.

To infiltrate Gringotts, he needed to find ways to bypass or deal with its surveillance methods.

For example, the magical detectors at the entrance of Gringotts: These devices detected hidden spells and concealed magical objects.

And the Thief's Downfall: It washed away all spells and magical disguises.

Alaric needed to figure out how to unlock Gringotts' magical locks and vaults as well.

However, with proper preparation, he believed he could handle it all.

In just two days, Alaric crafted the necessary magical tools.

First was the Disruptor.

The Disruptor functioned similarly to a Muggle radar jammer, emitting continuous magical pulses to keep the detectors in a triggered state, regardless of whether they truly detected hidden spells or magical items.

In other words, if set up properly, the goblins would find their detectors malfunctioning, detecting hidden magical items even when there were none, causing them to raise their alertness temporarily but rendering the detectors effectively useless.

Of course, Alaric could also use other methods to fool the detectors into not detecting the magical items on him, but the Disruptor was simpler and quicker to make.

Additionally, Alaric prepared enough Invisibility Potion, which, combined with an invisibility cloak, would allow them to sneak into Gringotts undetected.

The invisibility potion's magical disturbances were too noticeable and could be detected by powerful wizards, so it was not used.

For the Thief's Downfall, Alaric had not figured out a way to bypass it entirely, as even an ordinary waterfall would leave traces when someone passed through it.

Currently, he did not have a spell that could make someone completely lose their physical presence.

However, he devised a way to bypass the waterfall: spatial jumps.

Although Gringotts banned Apparition, Alaric could use magical devices for spatial movement.

This magical device was a green glass orb. By throwing it and activating it, one could be transported to the orb's location.

This magical device was derived from a previous summoning, known as Ender Pearls, a specialty from a certain blocky world, obtained from the Endermen, a species capable of spatial jumps.

After acquiring this magical material, Alaric initially thought it was useless since he was proficient in Apparition, whether for long-distance travel or short-range quick Apparition in combat.

Thus, Ender Pearls seemed insignificant.

However, their usefulness finally became apparent.

Ender Pearls could be used in most places where spatial movement was prohibited, let alone places that only banned Apparition.

(Apparition was just one form of spatial movement)
