Chapter 110 - Chapter 110: Fighting the Basilisk

Alaric had never hated the Anti-Apparition Charm at Hogwarts as much as he did now.

Currently, he was riding Skyraider, madly dashing towards the direction of the Hogwarts Castle library. The speed was already terrifying, but he still found it not fast enough.

Hermione and Penelope were both under attack at the moment, and Alaric didn't know how long the protective charms he had cast could resist the lethal gaze of the basilisk.

However, he had to make every second count, as it represented the lives of Hermione and Penelope.

Fortunately, the two girls had probably figured out the identity of the Basilisk today and understood its abilities. After the protective charms resisted the first attack, they should be cautious enough to avoid direct eye contact with the Basilisk.

In that case, they could at least ensure not to be killed by the Basilisk's gaze. Whether it was death, petrification, bites, or poisoning, Alaric had the ability to heal them.

Flying and praying in his heart, Alaric comforted himself. Finally, he arrived over Hogwarts Castle and, picking the nearest window to the library, he jumped right in.

After landing, Alaric didn't stop; he rushed towards the library at full speed. Finally, at a corner of a corridor, he saw the person he most wanted to see now.

Hermione and Penelope were crouched at the corner, both holding wands.

Hermione reached her hand around the corner, holding a small mirror, slightly tilted downward, using the reflection to check for any movement in the corridor.

Avoiding direct eye contact with the Basilisk while keeping an eye on the situation was indeed clever. Alaric mentally praised Hermione.

The sound of Alaric's approaching footsteps startled them.

They initially thought it was an ally of the monster—perhaps even the heir of Slytherin himself—taking a shortcut to catch up to them, desperate to devour them.

When they finally mustered the courage, wielding their wands, preparing for a desperate fight...

It was easy to imagine how excited they were when Alaric appeared in their sight.

The two girls immediately rushed into his arms.

"You finally came! I thought I would never see you again!" Penelope cried out, holding onto Alaric's arm with extra force.

"I knew you would come!" Hermione was also tearful, but she reminded Alaric.

"We already know; the monster from Slytherin is a Basilisk. Anyone who makes eye contact with it dies. Let's go quickly!"

"I'm here, and I'll protect you." Alaric comforted the girls, patting their backs.

"Don't worry; everything is fine now. I'll deal with this monster."

"It's a Basilisk! You could be killed with just a slight mistake!" Hermione emphasized nervously.

"Yeah, be careful. Let the professors handle the Serpent. No need for you to take risks," Penelope also suggested.

"No need. I can handle it," Alaric calmly shook his head. "You've always been curious about my Animagus form, right? You'll get to see it soon."

At this moment, the hissing sound of the Serpent's venomous breath and the friction between its scales and the floor could be heard from afar.

Alaric knew the Basilisk was coming.

"Move farther away and close your eyes," Alaric urged the two girls. "Hurry up, and only open your eyes when I tell you."

Seeing that they could not dissuade Alaric, Hermione and Penelope had no choice but to leave reluctantly, in order to not hold him back.

"You….be careful."

"Don't get hurt!"

Just like bidding farewell to a warrior on the battlefield, each of the girls gave Alaric a kiss and then hurriedly ran to a safe distance.

"Heh... Can this little snake even harm me?" Alaric touched his lips, recalling the soft touch and unique fragrance. He smiled faintly.

The hissing sound was getting closer.

Suddenly, Alaric began to transform. His skin turned into scales, claws grew on his limbs, wings extended from his back, and a long tail grew at the base of his spine.

A powerful heartbeat pulsated through his body, and potent magical energy filled him.

He transformed into a dragon, an elegant and majestic dragon.

The golden eyes of the dragon stared straight ahead, seeing a massive Basilisk emerge from around the corner.

The Basilisk was lush green, emitting the characteristic dazzling glow of a venomous snake. Its body was as thick as an oak tree trunk.

The upper body stretched high into the air, and its flat brain faced Alaric, maliciously grinning, revealing thin and long poisonous fangs.

Its eyes were yellow, and the narrow Basilisk pupils emitted a dangerous aura.

Even though Alaric was now a dragon, staring directly into the Basilisk's eyes still made his eyeballs feel a sharp pain.

Unfortunately, the Basilisk's ability couldn't kill Alaric through eye contact.

Nevertheless, the gaze still had an effect; at least Alaric felt a moment of sluggishness, and his joints became stiff. It was a sensation he had never experienced before.

"Is this same as the Petrifying Gaze of Medusa?" Alaric thought to himself.

The Basilisk's gaze was reminiscent of Medusa's, though the lethal effect was weakened, turning into petrification and stiffness.

No, petrification and stiffness were the true effects; death was only because the victims were too weak.

However, Alaric, in his current state as a dragon, still couldn't completely resist the Basilisk's gaze.

He had to lower his head to avoid direct eye contact, and indeed, the feelings of stiffness and sluggishness disappeared.

In fact, seeing a dragon suddenly appear, even the Basilisk was bewildered.

Originally chasing after two strange young witches, these two witches surprisingly survived its gaze.

However, this shouldn't last long, so it continued the pursuit. Who could have expected that just around a corner, its opponent would turn into such a large monster of nearly the same size?

For a moment, the Basilisk dared not approach, and the two monsters confronted each other in the corridor.

Suddenly, a young and handsome figure appeared beside the Basilisk.

"What's going on?" He furrowed his brows, asking inexplicably, "Why is there a dragon here?"

"Are you Tom Riddle?" The majestic and sonorous voice echoed through the entire corridor.

"A dragon... can speak? Who are you?" Tom Riddle asked in confusion, suddenly seeming to realize something. "Is this your Animagus form?"

"Quite clever. You guessed it right away. You truly are Voldemort," Alaric said solemnly.
