Chapter 86 - Chapter 86: International Wizard Chess Champion

In the final, Alaric no longer held back his strength. He decisively went all out, showing everyone how good he was.

After the match, according to the referee's calculations, Alaric had at most commanded fourteen chess pieces simultaneously during the game—each side only had a total of sixteen pieces—and his strategy was clear and without any confusion.

Faced with such a chess player, what else could they say?

This final could be considered the shortest in history, with a total match time of less than fifteen minutes. In other words, each game ended in less than five minutes on average.

"You are a formidable opponent," after the match, Kasparov wiped the sweat off his forehead and said to Alaric.

"I have never seen anyone capable of controlling so many chess pieces simultaneously. In this match, I was truly not a match for you."

After speaking, he exclaimed loudly, "The future of the wizard chess world will surely be ruled by you."

The championship and runner-up match finally ended.

An hour later, the match for the third and fourth places also concluded, and the winner was, of course, Fleur Delacour. Her opponent still had a look of defeat after leaving the arena.

In the final award ceremony, Dumbledore and the president of the International Wizard Chess Association awarded Alaric the trophy—a king-shaped figure made of pure gold, along with an exquisitely crafted wizard chess set as a prize.

After the award, Dumbledore introduced Alaric to everyone as a student of Hogwarts.

Looking at the young face on the stage and remembering his overwhelming performance that ended the final in fifteen minutes, all the players sighed.

The dark age of the wizard chess world was about to come with this person around.

No matter how other players struggled, they would never win the championship against him and he was also so young...

Next, Alaric read his award acceptance speech, and everyone was eager to know what the youngest champion in history would say.

"I am glad to win this championship," Alaric started with the usual clichés, "Thanks to the training from Hogwarts, the earnest teachings from the professors, and thanks to..."

In short, it was a bunch of clichés, disappointing the reporters.

They thought the youngest champion would say something extraordinary, after all, as a young person, being a bit arrogant wasn't unusual.

Little did they know this guy was a smooth talker. After rambling for a while, he didn't actually say anything meaningful. No topics worthy of reporting could be found.

Just when the reporters were disappointed, Alaric dropped a bomb at the end of his speech.

"This is my first and last time participating in the International Wizard Chess Tournament ," he said, causing an uproar in the audience.

Dumbledore had a wry smile on his face.

All the chess players became excited.

"I won't participate in the tournament again, nor will I accept anyone's challenge!" he declared loudly.

"Anyone who wants to challenge me in wizard chess, please become the champion of the International Wizard Chess Tournament first.

As long as you become the champion, you can challenge me, and I won't refuse anyone!"

And so, he concluded his speech.

But all the reporters became excited.

But all the wizard chess players who thought they had a chance to win the championship were all left in despair.

Who would want to challenge you?

This wasn't a declaration facing challengers at all.

You're really pushing all future International Wizard Chess champions into a corner with that statement.

He says he won't participate in the competition anymore, but he's open to challenges for the championship.

Isn't he essentially saying that if any future champion can't defeat him, they won't truly be worthy champions?

...

The tournament has ended, and people are gradually leaving the island.

As they leave, everyone's expressions are quite vivid.

Reporters and spectators are all satisfied because the competition was exciting, and the news was shocking.

All the competitors have unpleasant faces because the future of the wizard chess world will be dominated by this twelve-year-old chess player.

...

By the portkey, Fleur was bidding a fond farewell to Alaric.

"The last thing you said in the speech was so cool!" Fleur praised Alaric, "You didn't see the expressions of the others.

They were initially unhappy when you said you wouldn't participate in the competition anymore.

When you declared that anyone becoming the champion could challenge you, they immediately became happy.

But after your last sentence, their expressions changed again. It was really funny."

Alaric smiled as he looked at the girl.

"What about you? What were you thinking at that moment?" he asked.

"I wasn't unhappy at all," Fleur explained with a pout.

"These people can't control their thoughts; they deserve to lose to me. Only someone like you is worthy of being the final champion."

The two chatted for a while, and finally, Dumbledore managed to shake off the reporters and hurried to the portkey.

"I have to go," Alaric looked at Fleur, somewhat reluctant.

Three days of being together had given him quite a favorable impression of the girl.

"You're leaving?" Fleur nodded, "Make sure to write to me. If you have time, come to France to visit me. Oh, by the way, I still owe you a strand of hair."

"Now it's two strands," Alaric corrected, "One for research, one for collection."

"Yeah, two strands," she smiled, handing the two strands of hair to Alaric.

Alaric's hand touched her fingers.

Very smooth and soft.

Finally, Fleur couldn't resist. She suddenly leaned forward, kissed Alaric on the cheek, and then recoiled in surprise.

Although she had the bloodline of a Veela, she unexpectedly showed a pure side.

"Goodbye," she blinked at him. "Have a safe journey."

After passing through the portkey, Alaric still felt a bit lost.

"A cute girl, isn't she?" Dumbledore teased as he looked at Alaric, "Only at times like these do I feel like you're a young person."

"I've fulfilled the agreement," Alaric deliberately changed the subject, "When can you send me the seeds you promised?"

"Don't be so practical," Dumbledore smiled wryly, "At least let me, as the headmaster, be proud of my student for a while."

"Fine," Alaric shook his head helplessly, tossing the trophy to Dumbledore, "You can put this thing in the school's trophy room. It's your pride."

"Alright, alright, young people are always so impatient." Dumbledore caught the trophy, sighed, "But I still want to thank you. You've truly made Hogwarts proud."

Before using the Apparition to return to Hogwarts, he said to Alaric, "I'll send the seeds to your home gradually. Remember to check, and also..."

He mischievously winked, "Enjoy your vacation."

After saying that, he disappeared from Alaric's sight.

"You too," Alaric looked in the direction Dumbledore disappeared, sighed, "Starting from next summer vacation, you'll be quite busy."
