Chapter 69 - Chapter 69: The Injured Unicorn

At this moment, Alaric, who was collecting magical materials in the Forbidden Forest, received a plea from the Centaurs.

"Sorry, young wizards," said a centaur with red hair and a beard in a melancholic and slow tone.

"I'm Ronan, the envoy sent by our leader. We Centaurs usually don't involve young wizards in our troubles, but this time we have no choice but to seek your help."

"I am honored to help you."

Alaric politely nodded to him. During this time, he would go to the Forbidden Forest daily to search for magical materials, and the Centaur tribe would always send a member to guide him.

So, their friendship had been maintained well. This time, when the Centaurs asked for help, he was more than willing to lend a hand.

"What trouble have you encountered?"

"Mars is very bright tonight, but Jupiter is dim," Ronan sighed.

"Innocents are always the first one to suffer. It has been the same for centuries, and it remains so."

These Centaurs always spoke mysteriously, and straightforward answers were hard to come by. They often gazed at the stars, paying little attention to other matters.

However, Alaric had some understanding of Centaur astrology, and he quickly drew a conclusion:

Mars represents conflict and war, being an inauspicious star ruling over the sixth house of misfortune.

The bright Mars probably indicated that the Forbidden Forest had been invaded by some troublesome entity, likely a dark wizard or a dark creature.

In this context, Jupiter referred to something being threatened.

Placed in the Forbidden Forest, it could be an animal or a precious plant—Jupiter corresponds to many creatures and plants. Combining this with Mars, the implication was...

"Could it be that the unicorn was attacked by something?"

At this question, Ronan looked at Alaric in surprise.

Among the wizards he knew, except for Dumbledore, most would complain about the Centaurs being mysterious and not speaking clearly.

However, even Dumbledore wouldn't be as direct as this child, revealing the true information behind his words.

"Yes," Ronan nodded, sighing with melancholy. "One unicorn has already suffered an accident, and now another is injured.

The culprit is not only powerful but also quite cautious. We need your help."

"If it's about saving a unicorn," Alaric's expression became serious. "I have a duty to do."

From the original book, it's known that Voldemort hunted unicorns in the Forbidden Forest to sustain his life.

So, Alaric bid farewell to Ronan and began searching the Forbidden Forest alone.

By a stream, he saw a silver trail which was the blood of a unicorn. However, when he used the tracking spell, there was no reaction.

"Voldemort is indeed cautious, even considering wizard tracking methods in the Forbidden Forest," Alaric sighed.

"Unicorns are truly nature's favorites; the tracking spell has no effect on them. It seems I'll have to rely on other means."

He softly called, "Himari."

The little white cat immediately understood, approached the bloodstain, sniffed it, and then elegantly took a direction.

Himari weaved through the bushes, leading Alaric to a lakeside.

The bright moon hung in the black sky, casting moonlight on the dark lake.

On the tranquil lakeside, a silver-white beautiful creature bathed in moonlight, creating a picturesque scene.

However, on the legs of that beautiful creature, there was a long wound, and silver blood flowed from the wound onto the grass, shimmering like white pearls, adding a touch of melancholy to the scene.

"How cruel." Seeing the injured unicorn, even Alaric, who was sometimes cold and ruthless in his research, felt pity, sympathy, and anger towards the attacker.

He walked carefully towards the injured creature, afraid of disturbing this beautiful being.

This was a half-grown unicorn, entirely silver-white, with soft silver mane on its back. The spiral horn on its forehead still retained its golden hue from its childhood.

Its figure was slender, not as sturdy as a horse, nor as petite as a donkey, but very agile and graceful.

At this moment, facing Alaric's approach, the unicorn just raised its head, looked at him with those melancholic and pure eyes, then continued licking its own wound.

!!!

'How could this be?

Aren't unicorns supposed to be interested only in pure maidens?

Could it be that I've become so handsome that unicorns see me as a pure maiden, even without me cross-dressing?

Alaric was genuinely startled by its reaction, but immediately remembered another saying about unicorns.

Unicorns didn't actually only like pure maidens; in fact, only male unicorns had this characteristic. Female unicorns were more inclined to interact with young males.

Definitely, unicorns have very high standards for humans, with the first being appearance, along with various other requirements.

Those who meet the criteria might get the chance to touch or even ride a unicorn.

However, due to the spiritual connection with unicorns, the relationship between them and the rider is not a typical master-servant dynamic but rather that of friends, partners, and even...

Stop. That's enough.

Nevertheless, it seems this unicorn is a girl, and she's taken a liking to me?'

So, Alaric takes a step further, approaching the unicorn slowly. He tentatively extends his hand, caressing her fur.

But the unicorn shows no reaction.

No, not no reaction; she clearly enjoys this kind of touch.

The unicorn's fur is somewhat cool but extremely delicate and soft, reminiscent of a soft skin—yes, the sensation when he pinched Hermione's cheek was similar.

Indeed, caressing a unicorn is like simultaneously petting a cute little animal.

Well, it's truly a corrupting sensation.

Himari, on the side, grumbles discontentedly.

It seemed that she was jealous, so Alaric had no choice but to pat her head as well to maintain fairness.

However, once he confirms the unicorn fully accepts him, Alaric adeptly tends to her wounds. He then applies healing potion to the injuries and wraps them with bandages.

The process is somewhat painful, and the unicorn looks at Alaric with a touch of grievance, tears even welling up in her eyes.

But in the end, she endures it with a celebration.

"You're strong." Alaric pats her head satisfactorily, about to say something more.

Suddenly, Himari stands up alertly, staring intensely at a thicket not far away.

Alaric follows her gaze, but it's just darkness there.

Then, the unicorn also looks in that direction, seeming to have noticed something, wanting to stand up.

Considering her injuries, Alaric presses her back down. However, when he touches her skin, he realizes the unicorn is trembling.

The culprit who caused her injury must be approaching, frightening her.

"Don't be afraid; I'll protect you." Alaric reassures her in her ear, calming the unicorn. He then stands up, pulls out his wand, and aims it in that direction, poised and ready."
