The High Elf Kingdom of Quel'Thalas, also known as the "Land of Eternal Spring," has a political system distinct from the kingdoms of humans.
Like human nations, Quel'Thalas is ruled by a king.
Due to the Sunstrider family's leadership in reforging the Sunwell and establishing Quel'Thalas, they became the royal family of the kingdom, revered as the "Sun Kings" by the High Elves and ruling the land for generations.
However, the ultimate power in Quel'Thalas does not rest solely with the king but rather with a body known as the Silvermoon Council.
This council is composed of seven of the greatest noble lords of the High Elves, all of whom, without exception, are mages due to the elves' profound mastery of arcane magic.
Such a political system, blending feudal autocracy with aristocratic republicanism, is almost unimaginable among human kingdoms.
Yet, perhaps due to their long lifespans, deeply rooted traditions, and purer, prouder nature compared to humans, this system has persisted in Quel'Thalas.
For Alaric, Silvermoon City should have been very familiar. After all, in his previous life, he had spent considerable time exploring this elven capital's scenery in a game.
However, upon actually arriving at the city, he realized that the game's scaled-down dimensions and rudimentary textures could not capture its splendor.
Alaric had never seen such a magnificent city. Even Lordaeron, Stormwind, and Dalaran paled in comparison to Silvermoon City.
In this opulent city, magic and nature blend seamlessly. It is adorned with expensive arcane crystals and a myriad of exquisite, resplendent structures.
Open courtyards carpeted with grass and ornamental flower beds—many sculpted into impossible shapes through magic—are everywhere.
Massive arcane constructs ensure the citizens of Silvermoon City adhere to order, while magical brooms keep the streets immaculately clean.
In terms of arcane magic utilization, no city surpasses Silvermoon. The city's favorite colors—gold, white, and red—have remained unchanged for 7,000 years.
The delegation entered the grand city through its main gates.
Guided by guards, they traversed the city's main avenue, heading northward toward their ultimate destination: the Sunstrider Court.
Although High Elves often look down on humans, when Alaric announced his name, he was warmly welcomed—not as a member of the delegation, but as a mage.
The High Elves' passion for arcane magic was no empty boast.
After arriving at the Sunstrider Court, Alaric received invitations from various High Elf lords and mages for three or four consecutive days, including some from members of the Silvermoon Council.
They frequently invited him to various banquets.
Despite his dislike for socializing, Alaric had to accept most of the invitations to foster relationships with Silvermoon's key figures, making it easier to fulfill his diplomatic mission.
To his relief, most High Elf elites were accomplished mages rather than inept sycophants obsessed only with political power. This made his interactions at the banquets less awkward.
At these events, the elves enthusiastically conversed with him, humbly sought his guidance on transfiguration magic, and praised his theoretical insights and magical expertise.
Simultaneously, they eagerly showcased their collections of art and various forms of elven artistry.
When Alaric shared unique yet incisive artistic perspectives, drawing from his knowledge on Earth, the elves began to hold him in even higher regard.
Over three to four days, Alaric gained a broad understanding of the elves' characteristics.
They were indeed a race distinct from humans, with a fundamentally different way of thinking.
Perhaps due to their long lifespans, elves lacked the human drive for expansion, power, wealth, or authority.
Their lives moved at a leisurely pace, with much time devoted to pursuits like music, poetry, painting, and dance.
Magic, however, was an exception. The elves were universally passionate about magic, revering those with exceptional magical achievements.
Unlike humans, the elves wielded magic with greater precision and focus.
Though humans, as descendants of the Titans, often advanced more quickly in magical studies, it was the High Elves who truly mastered the art of magic.
Through his comprehensive understanding of the elves, Alaric came to understand why the seemingly powerful High Elf Kingdom declined so rapidly in the decades following the opening of the Dark Portal, suffering countless hardships until they were forced to seek refuge under the Horde, with their royal family utterly wiped out.
It must be noted that, on average, the High Elves' citizens were far more capable than humans in this world.
The elves were well-educated, and any one of them could be considered a high-caliber individual skilled in art, technology, and independent thought.
Moreover, the deep-rooted traditions of the High Elf Kingdom and their lack of expansionist ambitions had made their political landscape conservative.
The quality of their citizens and nobility ensured that corruption and oppression were virtually nonexistent.
With the addition of advanced ideology, the High Elves could have even progressed toward communism—the arcane energy from the Sunwell and their powerful magic ensured sufficient productivity.
If Azeroth had remained peaceful, this kingdom could have endured indefinitely.
By contrast, human society, with its relentless expansion, internal strife, and conflicts between nobles and commoners, might have spiraled toward self-destruction.
However, there are no "ifs" in history.
Humans, though driven by desire, suspicion, and fickleness, thrived in their competitive spirit.
This internal drive enabled them to react swiftly to external threats, preventing their annihilation.
This was the fundamental reason why humans managed to survive and even rise again amidst the catastrophes that followed the opening of the Dark Portal.
Quel'Thalas, on the other hand, despite its theoretical potential for eternal existence, succumbed to its conservatism, sluggish responses, slow population growth, over-reliance on the Sunwell, and other factors, leading to its tragic fate.
After gaining a thorough understanding of the elves and building strong relationships with their leaders, Alaric felt confident about fulfilling his role as an envoy.
However, on the night before he was scheduled to formally meet King Anasterian and the Silvermoon Council as an envoy, Alleria Windrunner unexpectedly burst into his room.
