Chapter 159 - Chapter 159: First Interdimensional Journey

Just a few days later, the Ministry of Magic exploded with big news—the escaped convict Sirius Black, who had been imprisoned for twelve years, was proven innocent.

The true betrayer of the Potter family and murderer of twelve Muggles was revealed to be the supposedly deceased Peter Pettigrew.

Sirius Black became a hero, who had been tirelessly protecting the Potter family all along.

However, the Ministry, without trial, had thrown him into Azkaban, and their failure to conduct a thorough investigation at the crime scene led to this miscarriage of justice.

Once again, this incident dealt a blow to the credibility of the Ministry.

Though Fudge himself wasn't directly involved in this thirteen-year-old miscarriage of justice, as the current Minister of Magic, he became the subject of ridicule.

On the contrary, Amelia Bones, the Director of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, who had cleared Sirius Black's name and captured Peter Pettigrew, gained favor among the wizards.

Everyone praised her fairness and wisdom.

Due to this incident, it was rumored that Fudge had pounded his desk several times in his office.

Sirius Black had his warrant revoked and regained his legal status.

He could now freely roam outside, having moved back to his ancestral home at Number 12, Grimmauld Place in London.

Harry was thrilled to meet his godfather, as it was the first time a relative had been so kind to him. Sirius not only gave him a Golden Snitch but also invited him to live together.

Harry was eager to accept the offer, but Dumbledore sternly refused.

The reason being that Lily Evans's protective charm would only work at the Dursleys', as Petunia Dursley was her sister.

If Harry no longer considered the Dursleys as his home, the protective charm would be nullified.

Sirius was also grateful to Alaric, as it was his analysis of limited evidence that ultimately cleared his name.

He gladly opened the Black family vault to Alaric, who took only some rare books and a few interesting ancient magical artifacts.

Sirius also gave Ron an owl to compensate for losing his rat Scabbers. Ron refused a new rat, now suspicious of any animal around him, fearing they might be an Animagus in disguise.

Additionally, Professor Lupin resigned. Fudge, seeking revenge for losing so much reputation due to Dumbledore, publicly revealed Lupin's werewolf identity.

Soon, numerous parents sent complaints to Dumbledore, unable to tolerate their children being taught by a werewolf. Not everyone could understand and trust Lupin like Dumbledore did.

But Lupin didn't have to live a nomadic life anymore. At least, he had his old friend Sirius willing to take him in.

Moreover, Harry and Ron became famous. The deaths of Harry's parents and the events of the past became hot topics again.

Wherever he went, young wizards discussed his parents and pointed fingers at him, which made him quite sad.

But Ron enjoyed the attention. He fabricated a story about how he discovered his pet was an Animagus, how he designed the plan to capture Pettigrew, and how he outsmarted him.

This story became a sensation in the Gryffindor common room, and everyone kept asking him about it, which he gladly repeated.

The final Quidditch match of the year began shortly after. Gryffindor versus Slytherin. Harry successfully caught the Golden Snitch before Malfoy, securing Gryffindor's victory.

However, their total points were still far behind Ravenclaw's. Wood left Hogwarts without winning the Quidditch Cup even once.

After the match, he stood on the field and cried.

"It's okay, I can let you touch our trophy," Roger said to Wood after hearing about it, trying to lighten his sadness. Angered, Wood immediately chased him with his broom.

In fact, Roger and Wood were not only longtime rivals but also sympathetic friends. Roger's words were probably meant to alleviate Wood's sorrow.

Before the final exams, there was a final verdict on the trial of Buckbeak.

Buckbeak was sentenced to death, and Fudge announced that he would witness the execution himself.

Now, his conflict with Hogwarts was growing, reaching the point of openly targeting the school.

Hagrid was very sad about this, but he quickly burst into laughter during the execution.

Because when the executioner chopped off Buckbeak's head, he realized he had only split a pumpkin in half—what they saw as Buckbeak was actually a pumpkin under a Disguise Charm.

Hagrid had a good relationship with Alaric. When Alaric was busy, he would ask Hagrid to help gather materials in the Forbidden Forest.

This time, Alaric helped him personally.

Alaric transformed the pumpkins in his garden into hippogriffs and then gave the real hippogriffs to Newt Scamander, who lived in seclusion in Dorset.

Since Nicolas Flamel's funeral, he had formed a bond with the elderly magical zoologist.

Among those he knew, Scamander was indeed the best choice to handle Buckbeak, providing him with a good home.

Finally, there was good news regarding Alaric's experiments with the space-time gate.

Before the end of the semester, he successfully opened a space-time gate in the Chamber of Secrets.

After repeated experiments and adjustments, the space-time gate could now remain stable after opening, without any sudden disappearances, interference from nearby spatial magic, or unstable space-time coordinates.

For Alaric, there were still many issues with the current space-time gate.

For instance, the recharging time was too long, it couldn't precisely search for specified space-time coordinates, and it couldn't connect to timelines without magical existence.

However, the basic functionality was considered complete, ready for use.

The current function of the space-time gate was simple: to allow the user to traverse the Sea of Chaos and reach another world.

While this function sounded easy, it was not simple to accomplish. Besides Alaric, no one had ever crossed the Sea of Chaos.

Only Alaric, through a stroke of luck, completed this feat and even developed a certain adaptability to the dangerous Sea of Chaos.

It was Alaric's unique adaptability that made the existence of the space-time gate possible.

However, only when operated by Alaric could the space-time gate safely transport someone across the Sea of Chaos to another world.

Of course, the space-time gate had several other functions:

The first function was serving as the space-time coordinates for other gates.

When Alaric traversed, the space-time gate would record his current world, spatial coordinates in the current world during traversal, and coordinates on the timeline of the current world.

This meant that as long as Alaric established a similar space-time gate in another world, he could connect through coordinates and return to his original world, landing at the same spatial and temporal coordinates.

In other words, no matter how he traversed, when returning to Harry Potter's world, he would still land in the same position as departure, and only a fraction of a second would have passed in Harry Potter's world.

The second function was coordinate retrieval.

Through this function, Alaric could find the specific world he wanted in the endless worlds of the Sea of Chaos.

After all, before visiting other worlds, who would know the coordinates of these worlds?

However, coordinate retrieval was based on the space-time gate reading Alaric's memories.

The principle was to determine the specific coordinates of the corresponding world through the information Alaric had seen in various movies, anime, and gaming works in his previous life.

In other words, Alaric could currently only go to worlds he had once understood.

According to Alaric's analysis, in his previous world, a considerable portion of the creativity of movies, anime, and gaming works originated from information overflow from various worlds in the Sea of Chaos.

Some information from these worlds accidentally passed through the Sea of Chaos, arrived in their world, and was accepted by certain individuals, who then used it as their own creative inspiration.

Therefore, Alaric could deduce the coordinates of these worlds through the information from these works.

Unfortunately, since Alaric himself had only traversed one world, there were too few samples for this aspect, making it impossible to achieve precise searches.

Currently, he could only search for worlds that met certain criteria through relatively vague instructions.

However, for Alaric, this was already sufficient.

Now, before him, the space-time gate had been opened.

For his first traversal, his search criteria for the target world were "existence of dragon race," "existence of relatively backward civilization and technology," and "low level of magical activity."

After all, caution was essential for the first traversal; encountering a world with too advanced technology or magic could lead to failure.

Gazing at the chaotic-colored gateway before him, Alaric finally made up his mind and stepped inside.

Thus began his journey into a different world.
