Chapter 18 - Chapter No. 18 Agni Parīkṣaṇam!!

The soft crunch of leaves beneath their feet was the only sound as Surya sir led Jay and Rudra deeper into the jungle. The dense canopy above swallowed the last rays of the setting sun, casting long shadows over the thick undergrowth. The air was heavy with the scent of damp earth, and the rustling of unseen creatures echoed through the silence. Every now and then, the distant call of animals broke the stillness, heightening the eerie atmosphere.

The village was far behind them now, its noise and bustle replaced by the jungle's haunting quiet. Here, in this isolated pocket of wilderness, no one would witness their training—no eyes, no distractions, just raw nature and the task ahead.

Surya sir came to a stop, his back to the boys as he surveyed their surroundings. "This is it," he said, his voice calm but laced with anticipation. "Here, no one can interfere. This is where we start the training."

Jay glanced around, unease settling in. The jungle seemed almost too perfect for what was about to unfold, its silence both unsettling and thrilling. Rudra, though wary, clenched his fists, ready for whatever was coming next. They had no choice but to trust Surya sir, to believe in the power of this isolated place to mold them into something stronger.

Surya sir turned to face them, his eyes gleaming in the fading light. "Get ready. This is where you'll either rise... or fall."

**Some movement later**

Surya sir's eyes gleamed with a determined spark. "I'll push your abilities to their limits. Jay, your water manipulation has far more potential than you realize. And Rudra, while your strength and adaptability are impressive, there are weaknesses you've yet to address."

Jay's shoulders tensed, doubt clouding his gaze. "What if it's not enough? What if we still can't handle them?"

A faint smile crossed Surya sir's lips, but a seriousness lingered beneath it. "You will be ready. Trust in your training and in yourselves."

Jay relaxed slightly, absorbing Surya sir's words, though uncertainty still flickered in his eyes. "So what do you suggest, Surya sir? What kind of training do we need to undergo in this short time?"

Surya sir nodded, his expression resolute. "We don't have much time to train, but this will help you become better than you are now."

Rudra raised an eyebrow, skepticism etched across his face. "What kind of training is this?"

Surya sir's demeanor shifted, filled with a quiet confidence. "Just watch." He lifted his hand, a spark igniting in his palm as he declared, "FIRE STAR!"

A small fireball, no larger than his palm, flickered to life, casting a warm glow around them.

Jay scoffed, crossing his arms, amusement dancing in his eyes. "This little fireball? In front of my water powers? This is nothing—it's child's play."

Surya sir held up a hand, cutting through Jay's overconfidence. "Wait, Jay. Let me explain. You have to stop it. Or, in other words, destroy it."

Rudra furrowed his brow, confusion etched across his features. "What do you mean by stop it? It's too small. We can destroy this easily."

Surya sir's smile deepened, a challenge lighting his eyes. "Let's see if it's as easy as you think."

The jungle around them seemed to hold its breath, the weight of the looming night pressing down as Surya sir stood before Jay and Rudra. "Now, the real training begins," Surya sir said, his voice low, followed by a chilling, almost sinister laugh.

Jay and Rudra both felt a shiver crawl down their spines as they exchanged uneasy glances. Something was off. Surya sir wasn't his usual calm, composed self. There was something different in his eyes, a glint of amusement laced with a dangerous edge.

Without warning, Surya sir hurled the glowing fireballs towards them, one aimed at each boy. "Now, show me your potential!" he barked, his voice echoing through the jungle.

The fireballs shot through the air, closing in fast. Jay and Rudra's initial reaction was one of confusion. They stood their ground, both thinking the same thing: What is this? Is Surya sir serious? These are just small fireballs!

Jay sneered, crossing his arms as the fireball came closer. "Is he mad? How is this supposed to help us train?!" he muttered under his breath.

Rudra, though more cautious, still had a hint of skepticism. "This doesn't feel right, but how hard can it be?" he thought, preparing to swat away the incoming ball of flame.

But Surya sir's gaze darkened as he watched their overconfidence. "You both take me too lightly," he thought, his fingers moving subtly in the air.

And then it happened.

The fireballs began to grow.

Jay's eyes widened, disbelief flooding his senses as the small ball of flame rapidly expanded, turning from a mere spark into a blazing orb. "W-what the hell?! It's getting bigger!" he exclaimed, a flicker of panic edging into his voice.

Rudra's muscles tensed as he realized what was happening. His earlier confidence evaporated. "We can't take this lightly… it's Surya sir!" he thought, the fireball now three times its original size and still growing as it closed in on them.

The heat intensified, and both boys scrambled, their hearts pounding as they prepared to face the now monstrous flames heading their way. The jungle's eerie silence was broken by the crackling of the fire, and for the first time, the gravity of their training hit them like a tidal wave.

This wasn't just about stopping a simple fireball.

It was a test of survival.

The jungle exploded into chaos.

The once serene silence was shattered as Surya sir's FIRE STAR attack took hold of the environment. The fireball struck the earth, and the forest around them erupted in flames, the heat so intense that the leaves instantly turned to ash.

"What the—!" Jay stumbled back, his heart hammering in his chest. The ground beneath their feet was scorched black, the fire spreading faster than they could comprehend. Rocks, solid and ancient, began to melt under the pressure of the heat, turning into liquid pools that trickled down the charred earth like ice cream in the sun.

Rudra's eyes widened, the reality of the situation crashing down on him. "This... this feels like we've entered hell." His voice shook, a mixture of disbelief and fear gripping him as he glanced at the burning forest, the air thick with smoke.

Jay clenched his fists, his water powers instinctively surging to the surface as he faced the growing inferno. The flames roared, an unstoppable force, fueled by the unrelenting power of the sun itself. "This is the power of the sun..." he whispered, his breath catching in his throat. "Surya sir isn't holding back."

The heat was unbearable, suffocating them, threatening to consume everything in its path. The once-dense jungle, full of life, had now become a burning wasteland, its greenery replaced by towering walls of fire. Every breath they took felt like inhaling molten air, scorching their lungs with every inhale.

"We have to stop this!" Jay yelled over the crackling inferno, sweat pouring down his face as he fought to keep his composure. His earlier arrogance had vanished, replaced by a growing sense of dread.

Rudra wiped the sweat from his brow, his voice hoarse. "We underestimated him... again." His muscles tensed, but he couldn't ignore the overwhelming heat. "This isn't just training anymore—he's testing our limits."

Surya sir stood at a distance, watching them intently, his expression unreadable. "This is what it takes to survive," he muttered under his breath, his hands still controlling the flames. "Push beyond your limits, or be consumed by them."

The fire roared louder, the forest around them reduced to smoldering embers, and the heat continued to intensify. This was no ordinary training exercise. This was a battle for survival, and the jungle had become a blazing arena where they would either rise above the flames or be devoured by them.

"Show me your power!" Surya sir's voice echoed through the inferno. "Prove to me that you're ready for what's coming!"

Jay's water surged, crashing against the flames, but the fire only seemed to grow stronger, relentless in its advance. The flames licked at the sky, turning the twilight into a blinding haze of orange and red.

Rudra braced himself, every instinct screaming to run, but he stood firm. This was the test, and if they failed, there would be no coming back.

The air itself seemed to hum with the energy of the firestorm, and as the night closed in, one thing was clear:

The fire would not stop.

Surya sir stretched his arms with an air of nonchalance, a smirk playing on his lips. "You carry on; I'm going for a nap." With that, he leaned against a tree, seemingly unfazed by the growing tension in the air.

Jay's heart raced as he turned back to the monstrous fireball, its fierce glow now threatening to swallow him whole. It was like a star in the night sky, pulsating and alive with destructive energy. "I can't let this thing get any closer," he thought, determination surging through him.

He took a deep breath, summoning the coolness within him. Water swirled around his hands, shimmering with potential as he focused on the expanding inferno. "Here goes nothing," he muttered under his breath, flinging his arms forward.

A torrent of water erupted from his palms, cascading toward the flaming sphere. "Stop! Just stop!" he shouted, panic creeping into his voice. But the water collided with the fire, creating a hissing sound that filled the air, only to be engulfed by the roaring flames.

"It's not working!" he realized, desperation clawing at him. The fireball, now the size of a large boulder, seemed to absorb the water, its heat intensifying as it continued to grow. "Why is it getting bigger?!" The realization hit him—that's why they called it Fire Star. It wasn't just a simple technique; it was an embodiment of pure destructive power.

Rudra stood beside him, his eyes wide with disbelief. "Jay, we need to do something! This isn't a joke anymore!" he exclaimed, the fear evident in his voice.

Jay's mind raced. He could feel the heat radiating off the fireball, sweat trickling down his brow. "I need to find a way to redirect it!" he thought. Drawing on every ounce of his training, he raised his hands again, channeling the water into a swirling vortex. "Come on, work!"

But the fireball laughed in the face of his efforts, expanding even more, now glowing ominously like a sun about to explode. The jungle around them felt like it was holding its breath, the animals retreating into the shadows, sensing the danger that was rapidly approaching.

"This is it! I can't let it take us down!" Jay shouted, desperation fueling his actions. He could see Surya sir watching them, his expression unreadable, and it only added to Jay's frustration.

"I won't fail. I can't!" he thought fiercely, his heart pounding in rhythm with the swelling flames. He gathered every drop of water he could muster, letting it flow freely from his core, creating a shield around himself and Rudra.

But as the fireball grew closer, Jay felt a chill of dread settle in. No matter how hard he tried, the Fire Star was relentless, its power overwhelming. "What do I do?!" The question echoed in his mind, desperate and haunting.

"Jay! We need to—" Rudra started, but his words were drowned out by the sound of crackling fire, the flames licking hungrily at the air.

In that moment, Jay realized he was up against not just fire, but the very essence of their training—a trial by fire that would either forge them into something stronger or consume them entirely. "I can't give up now!" he declared, and with renewed resolve, he pushed forward, determined to master the storm within him and take on the Fire Star once.
