Sirens wailed in the aftermath of a successful heist, the criminals reveling in their triumph, their laughter echoing as they sped toward their next target.
"Eve, doesn't this get your blood pumping!" Shouted one of them to his friend in the backseat.
"Let's save this energy for when we actually get out of this!" Eve screamed back, a grin spreading across her face as she glanced at the loot in the trunk.
"We're approaching Saturday Ave, buckle up, there's a cop barricade," The driver informed them, steering onto a freeway below, cunningly avoiding the highway and Saturday Ave.
"One more stretch!" The driver exclaimed, pushing down on the throttle.
"You know we're on break right?" A mysterious voice chimed in, but when Eve looked around, no one was there.
"Did you guys hear that?" Eve questioned, puzzled, as she scanned her surroundings.
"I really don't like turning in women, not my style," another voice sounded, and once again, Eve found no visible source.
"Eve, get your head in the game. We're about to reach Grandrow."
"Yeah, I'm sor—" Before Eve could finish her sentence, an impact sent their car flipping and crashing until it hit a wall.
Opening her eyes, Eve surveyed the wreckage. Were they hit by a barricade or police spikes? No, Jared's driving skills are unmatched. There's no way he'd get hit.
Crawling out of the car, Eve, the sole conscious member, heard police sirens approaching. Grabbing a bag of money, she limped through the tunnel where their car crashed. Before she could take another step, a man appeared, tears in his eyes.
"What do you want?" Eve questioned.
"I'm sorry, Cassidy Turner," The man cried. "But I must do this!"
"What are you on about?" Eve asked, but before she could react, the man struck her with such force that she fell unconscious.
The man retreated just as police sirens reached the tunnel. As he landed on a hill, he saw three friends waiting for him. "You took too long, V."
"It was a woman," V wiped his eyes. "Plus, I didn't waste more than two minutes."
"You know Theo; he doesn't like doing anything that doesn't put him one step closer to revenge," Sam air quoted as she observed Theodore walking away. "There he goes."
"The mission's completed already; we're needed back in Atlas." As Theodore spoke, all four vanished in an instant, leaving no trace of their presence at the scene.
