Previously, upon Maddie's suggestion, Diana had created a chat group, but the three brothers in the group rarely spoke since they noticed Maddie was also a member. Eventually, the chat group dissolved.
After creating the chat group, Diana pondered a bit and changed the group name to "The Handsome Brothers" before sending out a message.
[Diana: Brothers, look over here! If there's anything, feel free to talk about it in the group~]
Soon enough, someone replied, and to Diana's surprise, it was her second oldest brother Ben.
[Ben: Did Diana create this group? Am I dreaming? Have I fallen for a scam?]
Diana was a bit puzzled.
[Diana: Ben, how come you're here? Aren't you supposed to be training at this time?]
[Ben: We had a company outing today, and I just came back after dinner...training every day is so tiring, can I get a hug?]
[Diana: 🤗]
[Andrew: You can transfer money between accounts bound to this software. I just used this function to transfer $4000 to Diana.]
[Ben: Holy cow! Andrew is rich!]
Diana quickly checked her account and indeed, she received $4000!
[Colin: ....]
[Andrew: It was boring at home during the summer vacation. You can use this money to buy some snacks, Diana.]
[Ben: Andrew, I'm exhausted from training at work. Can you send me some too...]
[Diana: Thank you, Andrew!]
[Andrew: You're welcome, pat pat~]
[Ben: Andrew, take a look at me over here...]
The following is a conversation that took place in a chat group on a messaging app:
[Colin: @Diana, I transferred $2000 to you too.]
[Diana: Wow! Thank you, Colin!]
[Colin: 😊]
[Ben: Little brother, why are you also so generous?!]
[Colin: I made some money in the stock market recently. It's just a hobby to earn some pocket money.]
Colin is also a genius, if he were in finance, he would definitely be a business genius. However, he is only obsessed with astronomy, and trading stocks is just a hobby to earn some spending money. Ben was hit hard for a moment. He could not lose when it came to spoiling his little sister. So...
[Ben: @Diana, I also transferred you some money. Although it's not a lot, Diana, you can rest assured that I will make big money in the future and give you more money than you can spend!]
Diana couldn't help but smile. Of course he would make big money! In the near future, Ben will become a hot celebrity with a steady stream of income! Diana did not refuse Ben's kindness, after all, she had already received money from two other brothers. If she didn't take Ben's money, he might feel left out.
[Diana: You don't have to transfer money to me in the future, I'll make my own money!]
[Colin: You're still young, you don't need to make money.]
"Who said that? I just made $400,000 today! Well... to be precise, I scammed it." Diana thought to herself.
[Andrew: If you make money, I won't have anywhere to spend my money. Listen to me, put away your unreliable ideas.]
[Diana: Andrew, you're being too indulgent, you know that?]
[Ben: I have to go offline, goodnight]
[Diana: Okay, goodnight.]
[Ben: Oh, one more thing.]
Diana waited for a while but Ben didn't say anything else.
[Diana: Huh? Why did you stop talking?]
The group fell silent for a moment.
[Andrew: Is he asleep?]
[Diana: ...]
After chatting with a few of her brothers, Diana lay in bed with a sudden impulse to invite John over. However, upon further reflection, she decided against it. If he came, Ben would likely cause a scene. She decided to wait a bit longer.
Diana placed her phone on her chest and John's handsome yet brooding face came to mind. She wondered what he was up to at the moment.
The next day, in a hospital room in New York, John sat on a wheelchair with his phone in one hand and the other hand propping up his forehead. His cold gaze was fixed on the phone screen, and he remained motionless for a long time. Although his face was still expressionless, Jackson and Ethan, who had been by his side for years, knew that their boss was not in a good mood.
They couldn't figure out why, though. It was early in the morning, and nothing had happened yet. After pondering for a while, they realized that there was probably only one reason why John was feeling this way.
Ethan frowned and whispered, "Should we get the boss a different room?"
"Why?" Jackson looked at him puzzled.
"Boss had dark circles under his eyes this morning. He probably didn't sleep well last night. It seems that the bed in this hotel is not good enough," Ethan replied seriously.
Jackson gave him a look of caring for an idiot. "Do you think the boss is in a bad mood because of this?"
Ethan nodded seriously. "Isn't that the reason?"
"What else could it be?" Jackson rolled his eyes. He lowered his voice and leaned in closer to Ethan. "The person who can make the boss so restless and lost in thought, do you think there could be another person like that in this world?"
Ethan raised an eyebrow and whispered in a voice that only the two of them could hear: "You mean the one from the Thompson family... the one who's... simple-minded?"
Jackson nodded silently at him. Yes, that simple-minded person.
"Has the doctor arrived? It's almost time for the boss's surgery," Ethan glanced anxiously at the clock. He couldn't afford to delay the boss's treatment. But who would go and talk to him?
Ethan turned his head and met Jackson's gaze. "Wanna play rock-paper-scissors?"
Jackson shrugged. "It was me last time, so now it's your turn." He didn't want to provoke the boss when he was in a bad mood. Better to let sleeping dogs lie.
Ethan insisted. "Come on, let's play."
Jackson sneered. "Fine, let's play. Are you scared?"
They played one round and Jackson lost miserably.
Jackson thought to himself, "Why is it always me who has to suffer? What kind of torture is this?"
Resigned, he rubbed his hands together and approached John. He adjusted his expression, bent down, and said softly, "Boss, it's time to go to the operating room. The doctor said your leg..."
"Get out."
"Okay," Jackson quickly stepped aside. Why did he always end up getting hurt?
John stayed quietly with his phoenix eyes fixed on the pitch-black screen, waiting for her call. His thin lips were pursed into a straight line, and he couldn't help but wonder why she hadn't messaged him yet. This time of day was usually quite relaxed, so what could be keeping her busy? Was it possible that she just didn't care about him at all? The thought sent a chill down his spine, and his eyes turned icy.
Meanwhile, Jackson was lost in melancholy thoughts when he suddenly felt a chill in the air. "What the hell is going on?" he thought to himself. "It couldn't possibly be my fault, could it?"
After waiting for a few more moments, John finally gave up. It seemed that she wasn't going to contact him after all. Disappointment flashed across his eyes, and he was about to hand his phone to Ethan when suddenly it rang. The clear sound of the ringtone filled the air, and when he saw the words "little girl" on the screen, John's eyes lit up. He quickly grabbed his phone and answered the call.
"Hello?" Diana sat on her bed, surprised to hear that familiar deep, magnetic voice so soon after the phone rang. But she didn't think too much about it and cleared her throat before asking, "Um, I just wanted to ask, what did the doctor say about your leg?"
"Are you concerned about me?" John's voice softened.
"Uh..." Diana sat on her bed, hugging her dolphin pillow and nodded, "Of course."
Not only was she concerned, but she also felt guilty. If anything else happened to his leg in this life, she would have apologized profusely.
Upon hearing her affirmative answer, John's eyebrows immediately relaxed. His tone became lighter as he said, "It can be treated and there's nothing to worry about."
Diana finally breathed a sigh of relief, "Well, you have to listen to the doctor and cooperate with the treatment. I heard that post-recovery is also very important..." Diana then proceeded to recite all the knowledge she had found online, almost like a teacher teaching a child.
John listened to Diana's incessant chatter, feeling a warm sensation in his heart instead of annoyance. She had never talked to him this much before, especially about caring things. Diana eventually realized that she had been talking for a while and felt a little embarrassed, so she stopped herself and said, "Well, I should let you go. You're probably busy."
"I'm not busy," John replied. Jackson, his assistant, couldn't help but roll his eyes. Boss, you can't be serious. If you don't leave soon, the doctor might come in with a scalpel.
Luckily, Diana didn't believe John's words. She knew that even if a scalpel was at his neck, John would prioritize her. To avoid disrupting his work, she quickly ended the call. After hanging up, John slowly put his phone down, feeling a bit reluctant. His heart was not at peace. He missed her intensely, and the longing flooded his heart like a wild storm. He couldn't stop thinking about her.
"Boss, let's go to the operating room," Ethan walked over and said.
John lifted his gaze slightly and nodded before putting away his phone. After a moment's pause, he spoke slowly, "Jackson, check for a flight back to Cloud City in three days."
Jackson was taken aback. Return to Cloud City? Wasn't it agreed upon for a week? The doctor clearly stated that after the surgery today, John needed to be observed for several days. The earliest would be a week. "Is three days too soon to leave?" Jackson hesitated to speak. Although he was afraid of the boss, he was more concerned about his health.
"My own body, I know it well," John's tone was indifferent. It seemed that he was in a good mood after talking to Diana on the phone. Jackson wanted to persuade him, but John seemed to have sensed his intentions and stopped him, "Go and check the flight tickets now. If you book it, let little girl know." Suddenly, John thought of something else and continued, "Forget it, I'll tell her myself."
Oh no, the boss is completely falling for that clueless girl. Jackson swallowed his grievances and silently nodded, "Yes."
