Chapter 20 - A New Skill

'This is good.' After reaching level 10, one would unlock the inventory fully and could use it effectively.

The first thing Ren did was place all the items and potions he had inside the inventory, and he made sure to arrange them to the best of his ability so finding them was easy in future.

After that, he didn't even bother distributing the stat points first, instead, he brought out the skill scroll. He was curious as to which skill he would get since he had a dual class. Being lower level at the moment, he was sure it wouldn't be a powerful skill, but if anything was to be learnt from the skills he currently had, it was that even his beginner skills were powerful.

[Would you like to use skill scroll?]

"Yes."

Golden light came from the scroll as it floated in the air and opened by itself before disintegrating into light particles and entering into Ren's body. As the particles entered his body, he closed his eyes receiving them, but that was more of a natural reaction rather than something that had to be done.

[You have learnt a new skill, -Serene Mind-]

"Wow, serene mind? I can't tell if it's high level or not, but I know its supper good during fights or anything at all."

"This should be good enough. As a swordsman, I don't need much strength as much as speed, I can generate quadruple my striking force from swinging my sword a certain way, and regarding the fact that I am practically one with the sword, that won't be a problem." Seeing as he wasn't trying to split the heavens just yet, investing too much into strength wasn't the way to go. He already believed in just how much he would grow in future, so he wasn't worried in the least.

'Even though I can't get EXP from the aliens, there are still a lot of dungeons to raid, and if I do it alone, the reward will definitely be equal to the effort.'

With nothing left to do for the day, he took his bath and readied for bed, but before then… "I have to try even though it's just once."

Ren sat on his bed wearing a serious expression on his face, as he was already engrossed in the act of creating something. He was currently in the void space with the visual effect of moving stars, as he referred to it.

He tried to create a skill first, but ultimately failed just like the first time, and the data was stored. After failing two more times, he tried to create a technique instead, but even with a technique, he failed. Pissed off about the back to back failures, Ren was determined to not go to bed until he had created one technique.

Fifty minutes later, he succeeded in created one technique, but it wasn't something he was proud of in the end.

[You have created a new technique]

[Lightning footwork]

Looking at it, was a kind of martial art, and he definitely got the idea from martial art mangas, but it seemed to really compliment his own class of a swordsman, it was also something that aided the successful creation of the technique.

[Due to low understanding of the technique, it's effectiveness has been reduce]

[Technique –Lightning Footwork- >> -Lightening Footwork (Incomplete)-]

"I thought my class helped?... whatever, I think learning how Linda does that footwork thing will help me here." Now that he thought about it, it seemed like Linda was most likely to keep using the sword in this world too.

'Though, she did end up switching things up when shit hit the fan.' There was no need for him to intervene in any of it. Although having people behind him would be nice in the long run, Ren wasn't sold on the idea that it had to be from the main cast only. It was already weird seeing these characters he hated in real life, but though, he realized it was just a little dislike; having them follow him or something like that just sounded too… weird in his mind.

Anyway, he decided to go to sleep since he had also used a lot of his energy in all the failed creations.

. . .

The next day, classes went on as normal, and during the sparring class, instead of a spar, Ren took the time to ask Linda about the footwork she always used, and she was actually ready to teach him, though, she was a bit saddened at the end of the training class, because Ren had learnt the technique to more than perfection and still left before the class was over… It took her several years to get to where she was with that technique.

Ren who already had an incomplete lightning footwork just used some knowledge from Linda's technique after she explained it to him thoroughly, and after combining it with his own technique and making some adjustment to his liking, his lightning footwork was completely created, and turned out as an improved version from whatever lightning technique had already been recorded in the Arkashic Records.

After spending yet another week in the library, though Ren wasn't able to create a new skill, he seemed to have become quite proficient in creating various techniques.

'This is my gateway to understanding creation of skills, I'm certainly not overdoing it.'
