Chapter 1 - Divorce

Dunice had brought out her big box and started packing up her things when she heard a knock on the door.

Knock! knock!!

"Who's there?" She asked, almost shouting.

"It's the driver, ma'am, I just wanted to ask if you were done packing your things," He said.

"No, give me few minutes, come inside," Dunice ordered the driver.

The driver came inside at her order and stood by the door side. She was backing him.

"Is your boss around?" She asked without turning her head to look at him.

"No ma'am, the boss went out on a business trip this morning and asked me to drop you at your destination," The driver replied.

"Oh!" She exclaimed while raising a brow. "Okay then." She added.

"What was she expecting?....Was she expecting Alex to see her off and tell her last goodbye?" She must have thought too highly of him. She scoffed at the thought.

Alexander Lopez was Dunice's ex-husband, they recently got a divorce. And now she's leaving him for good. Shaking those thoughts out of her head, she zipped the bag and turned to face the driver.

"I'm ready, could you please help me with my bag?" she pleaded with him.

The driver quickly came over to carry it for her and they both headed to the parking lot at the mansion. Just as she was about to get in the back seat of the car she heard a voice behind her.

"Oh Dunice!"

It was Charrisa Maxwell. She was wearing a black tailored pencil skirt coupled with a crisp white blouse, a pair of classic pumps, and a structured handbag. Her hair was pulled back in a sleek bun, and she completed her look with bold makeup and red lipstick.

Charrisa has been crazy over Alexander for a very long time. She has an unhealthy obsession with him and she has been making life difficult for poor Dunice.

Charrisa covered her mouth with both hands as if something terrible had happened.

"I'm so sorry about your divorce," Charrisa said while throwing a fake apologetic look at Dunice. Dunice simply rolled her eyes at Charrisa's sarcasm. Seeing she got no reply from Dunice, she felt little and she decided to provoke Dunice more....

"I don't even know why I'm sympathizing with you because Alex is nowhere in your class, I wonder why he signed a contract marriage with a pauper like you," She looked at Dunice with a disgusted look as she said this.

"You only ruined his image all this while you are so classless you f**cking bi-"

"Slap!"

Dunice slapped Charrisa hard on her face.

The driver who was already in the car eyes widened when he saw what just happened. He couldn't believe Dunice could slap Charrisa. All this while Dunice has endured the insults and tantrums Charissa threw at her. Sometimes he felt like tying Charissa up and beating the hell out of her on the behalf of his boss. He was happy she managed to stand up for herself this time around.

Charrisa couldn't believe what just happened, she looked around to see if no one witnessed the incident.

"How dare you slap me you whor-"

Dunice caught Charissa's hand that was coming her way and twisted it.

"What? You are shocked ugh?" Dunice asked as she smirked at Charrisa.

"This my last day here and I'm leaving for good," Dunice stressed the "good" in her sentence.

"You would do well not to spit trash at me or else I would beat you here and now and nobody would save you from me." Dunice's hands was still twisting Charrisa's arm as she said this.

"Ah! Stop! Stop!!" Charissa winced in pain and it was then Dunice let go of her hand and got into the car.

On getting into the car she placed her hands on her chest to calm her breathing. She couldn't believe what she said and did earlier.

"I must have reached my limit earlier," Dunice muttered to herself.

"Where is your destination ma'am?" the driver asked.

"My Grandmother's place,I Believe you know the location already," she asked while cocking her head to the side.

"Yes I do ma'am," he replied and they took off.

Amber was just watering the flowers outside of her home when a black SUV drove into her small building. She watched a pair of black heels step down from the car.

"Dunice!" Amber exclaimed.

Amber is Dunice's Grandmother she has been the one taking care of Dunice and her brother when her parents died in an accident when Dunice was just nine.

"Oh my Goodness! I have missed you so much," Amber said happily.

Her grandmother didn't even let her come down from the car completely before she ran over and pulled Dunice into her embrace. Dunice hugged her back and she somehow felt like crying. She has missed home so badly.

"Where's Damien?" she asked looking around to see if she would catch a sight of him.

"Oh dear! Damien went to get some groceries," Amber said to her granddaughter.

During the exchange of pleasantries, the driver had already brought out her things and moved them inside the house.

"I'm done moving everything in ma'am, I shall be returning to the mansion," The driver said.

"Goodbye, take care" Dunice said as she waved her hands to bid the driver farewell.

Just as Dunice and her Grandmother were about to step into the house they heard Damien's call.

"Big sis!" Damien exclaimed.

Damien jumped on Dunice, spilling part of the groceries he went to get at the store

"How have you been?....Are you good?...Have you been sleeping well?.... Did you eat well?" Damien bombarded her with all these questions at once.

"Damien!" Amber called looking slightly annoyed. One question at a time Amber cautioned.

"Oh, I'm sorry sis, let's all go inside,"he said.

When they all got in Damien caught sight of Dunice's bags and his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"Why are all your belongings here Dunice, aren't you married?" Damien asked genuinely curious.

Hearing this question, Dunice's expression turned sour.
