Chapter 54 - All Forces Gathered

As they reached the opening, the first monster's form became clear, emerging from the churning waters of the River Edgewater. The river, usually a serene flow cutting through Lighthaven, was now a tumultuous stage for the unfolding chaos. Its usually clear waters were disturbed, reflecting the panic-stricken sky above as evening fell. The creature before them was like a nightmare given form, towering above the riverbanks. Its scales glistened in the fading light, wet and slick, as if woven from the river's own essence. Several elongated limbs, tipped with razor-sharp claws, thrashed violently, churning the water into frothing waves.

Elara gasped at the sight of the creature, her eyes wide with a mix of fear and wonder. Caelum, his expression set in a determined grimace, activated his Observe skill, focusing intently on the monstrous being.

[System Message: River Leviathan – Level 15. A formidable aquatic monster known for its brute strength and thick scales. Weakness: Sensory organs, particularly eyes and ears. Caution advised.]

A burly man in heavy armor, General Tarnis, called out to the gathering crowd of defenders, "Gather behind me and find your factions! No one to attack recklessly." His voice boomed over the clamor, a beacon of order amidst the pandemonium.

Ironhand, standing next to Caelum and Elara, looked at them intently. "Come with me or join the ranks of Adventurers," he said, his voice gruff but concerned.

Caelum nodded, then took out his silver rank Adventurer's pin, pinning it onto his coat. Elara copied his movements. After their recent venture hunting the Shadow Stalker, their rank had skyrocketed, earning them a reputation as one of the fastest rising parties in all Lighthaven, a fact Sara had mentioned with awe.

As the group of four approached, Caelum recognized them instantly: the Silver Shields, a party he had encountered before. Their leader, a red-haired woman clad in a harmonious blend of armor and fabric, gave Caelum a nod of recognition. Her demeanor exuded both strength and elegance, a striking figure amidst the chaos. Beside her stood a man in full plate armor, his posture relaxed yet confident, gripping a broadsword as if it were an extension of his arm. The other two members of the party, one adorned in robes etched with arcane symbols and the other in lighter, agile gear, were clearly practitioners of Myst.

"Caelum, already a Silver Ranked, I see," the red-haired woman said with a smile, her voice carrying a mix of respect and amusement. "No wonder you turned down my offer." Her name was Lyra, known for her tactical acumen and leadership within the Silver Shields.

Caelum returned her smile. "It seems our paths have led us to similar ranks," he responded. Lyra's presence, along with her companions, was a reassuring sign of the town's preparedness against the looming threat.

Lyra's gaze shifted, surveying the assembling factions and groups. She began introducing them to Caelum and Elara, providing insight into the town's defense strategy.

"Over there, we have the representatives from the Council of Elders," Lyra pointed out. "General Tarnis is coordinating the defense. He's a master tactician, rumored to know the secrets of awakening the 'Strategist Commander' class. And beside him is Mage Elendra, a powerful sorceress who guards the 'Arcane Weaver' class, crucial for creating magical barriers."

Lyra then gestured towards a group of heavily armored individuals. "That's Valoria's Militia. They're trained in the 'Iron Sentinel' class, making them formidable in defense. And those scouts mingling with the crowd are from The Watchers' Guild, skilled in the 'Shadow Scout' class."

As they moved through the square, Lyra continued her overview. "Notice the banners? Each represents a different house. House Redthorn, for example, has the exclusive knowledge of the 'Fiery Druid' class, a powerful force in maintaining their rule."

Caelum nodded, absorbing the information. His eyes briefly met with a group of blacksmiths, recognizing the distinct insignia of their faction. They were protectors of the 'Metalforge Mystic' class. They were accompanied by jewelers, whose skills in the 'Gemstone Seer' class were renowned for imbuing jewelry with mystical energies.

Lyra's gaze then fell upon a group of rugged individuals, carrying gear suited for exploration. "Those are from the Adventurers' Guild," she explained. "Experts in the 'Trailblazer' class, adept at navigating uncharted territories."

As they passed the Grand Temple, Lyra pointed out the priests and acolytes. "They train in the 'Divine Oracle' class, interpreting divine messages and omens. Their insights could be pivotal tonight."

Caelum looked around the bustling square, absorbing the scene of organized chaos as various factions and groups prepared for the impending battle. "Are these all the forces of Lighthaven?" he asked Lyra, his tone carrying a bit of curiosity.

Lyra shook her head, her expression turning more serious. "There are dark forces as well, but they won't appear on the frontline," she replied, her meaning clear. There were elements in Lighthaven that operated in the shadows, away from the public eye.

Caelum's thoughts briefly flickered to the previous quest prompt he had received from his system, considering the alternative actions it had presented. He quickly pushed these thoughts aside, focusing on the task at hand.

Caelum then hummed thoughtfully and asked Lyra, "Who leads the Adventurers' Guild here?"

Lyra glanced towards a group of seasoned adventurers, her eyes landing on a rugged man with an air of authority. "That's Brennan," she replied. "Known for his 'Pathfinder' class, he's a veteran explorer and tactician. He's got the respect of every guild member."

Caelum's gaze first settled on Brennan, de facto leader of the Adventurers' Guild. With a focused intent, he activated his Observe skill.
