Chapter 1 - ONE

Amelia's POV

The thumping bass reverberated through the crowded nightclub, the neon lights flashing in time with the music. The room was filled with the smell of a alcohol, sweat and smoke, and the dance floor was jammed packed with people.

In the midst of it all, I sat with my best friend Cara at the bar, nursing my untouched whiskey on rocks and trying to fight off the tears from streaming down my face. Thankfully, the people around were too focused on dancing to pay any unwanted attention to me.

"How could he do this to me? Dump me out of the blue?" I choked out.

I was still barely processing all that had happened earlier today. My boyfriend dumped me today on our four year anniversary. Apparently he realized I wasn't really in his league and he deserved better.

I mean - wtf?

Cara gave me a cold look and said,

"Don't be such a cry baby." She muttered.

I was shocked by her harsh words.

"Huh? You know how much I loved him." I replied.

"And he obviously didn't love you. Get over it"

"Why are you being so rude about it? I thought you were my friend!" I shouted, my voice breaking.

"I am your friend," Cara said, her tone suddenly cold and hard. "Sometimes, we have to face the hard truths."

I knew we were making a scene and I definitely didn't want that.

"Well technically it was pretty much expected. I mean, he's all that and you're- well you" she said, giggling at the end.

"Seriously?" I deadpanned, annoyance clouding my mind.

The last thing I wanted was for Cara making a joke about this situation. This was definitely not the time for her crude remarks.

Yes my boyfriend was the definition of rich and handsome but he never ones made me feel like I was lesser than him, well… until today.

"I'm just saying… it's the truth and you know that!" She muttered.

"You know what, I'm leaving! I don't know why I agreed on following you here in the first place." I said and stood up from the bar stool, heading straight for the exit.

"No wait, I'm just kidding Amelia. Have a drink at least, it would relieve your stress" Cara said, grabbing my arm and pulling me back to our seats.

"Here, drink this" she said while practically shoving my untouched drink in my face.

"Okay" I replied reluctantly and took the drink from her hands, gulping its contents all in one go.

"Good! Now how do you feel" she asked, watching me with calculating eyes.

Oddly, I could feel my vision get blurry and my head felt really light. That's weird, all I had was just one drink. Why did I feel- drunk?

"Weird, really weird" I whispered.

"Good, it's working then" she muttered under her breath but I heard it anyway.

"What do you mean?" I asked quizzically, trying to focus on her face which had a malicious smirk on her face.

"Nothing sweetheart" she replied, a wide smile on her face.

"Huh?" I asked, barely understanding anything she had just said.

She turned the other way, dabbing her fingers on her phone, probably texting.

"I think I need to use the bathroom" I groaned, getting up once again from my bar stool.

"Hmm hmm" she grunted, not sparing me another glance"

"But don't take too much time, there's someone I would like you to meet" she yelled over the loud music.

I stumbled out of the bar section, clutching my purse and trying to keep my balance. I walked through the crowd, and searched for the bathroom.

I bumped into a few people, mumbling apologies as I went. Finally I spotted a sign for the restroom, and I stumbled down the hallway, grateful to be out of the chaos of the club.

After easing myself I stood in front of the bathroom mirror and stared back at my reflection.

Damn… I still felt really weird. And this familiar sensation- what was it even? I couldn't quite understand it.

Horny?

I had always been the type to get turned on when I was drunk, but how was I even already drunk after taking only one drink?

I released a long weary breath and tried my best to walk steadily out of the bathroom. The loudness of the club immediately enveloped me, making me feel uneasy.

As I emerged from the bathroom, I felt someone collide with my shoulder. I quickly turned, ready to apologize, when my eyes locked onto the most stunning man I had ever seen.

He was tall, with a sharp jawline and pink thin lips. His eyes were a piercing grey, and his hair was a shock of dark brown waves.

My cheeks felt hot and I could already tell it was a deep shade of red. I swallowed, trying to find my voice, but all I could utter was a breathless 'oh'.

"Watch it baby girl" he whispered with a smirk.

His voice was deep and seductive, like velvet on silk. It wrapped around me like a warm blanket, luring me closer and closer to his magnetic presence. His words were like honey, dripping with desire, making my knees weak.

The look in his eyes irresistible and enchanting.
