After studying the case files, Li Lin donned his powered armor again. Caitlyn readied her Crimson Steel laser sniper rifle, dressed in a practical bodysuit, and wore a breath filter. Together, they descended to the mid-level plaza using the lift.
Caitlyn emphasized that their primary task was not direct confrontation with the "killer" but to pinpoint his exact location. Li Lin suggested seeking Vander, who had contacts familiar with the Undercity, saving them trouble.
After a short while, they reached The Last Drop Inn.
It was still early, and the inn had opened not long ago. Vi, Powder, Claggor, and Milo were nowhere to be found inside.
As they entered, Vander's familiar and surprised voice greeted them, "Hey, good afternoon, Li Lin, and Miss Kiramman."
Noticing the strange-looking sniper rifle on Li Lin's back, Vander raised his thick brows. "Are you guys preparing...?"
Li Lin and Caitlyn took seats at the bar, and he explained with a smile, "Investigating a series of murders."
Vander wiped his hands with a towel, then poured two glasses of iced tea. "Are you talking about the alchemical incident in the sewers today?"
"I'm surprised that even you, someone who stays in the Lanes every day is well-informed," Li Lin teased.
Vander understood Li Lin was joking and wasn't offended. "Well, with such a big incident, even the enforcers are involved. People have been talking about it...though most think it's just a regular alchemical accident."
Pausing, Vander's expression darkened. "One of the security personnel at the oil tank factory, a friend of Sevika, claimed it wasn't an ordinary accident but deliberate murder, resulting in several deaths."
"Yes, the investigation team identified the culprit as a yordle using a crossbow and alchemical toxins," Caitlyn added, revealing some details of the case.
Listening, Vander's face became grimmer. "Damn, you stabilized Zaun under your influence, and now, trouble has to brew at such a crucial time."
"No worries, there's only one 'person' responsible," Li Lin waved it off. "With Caitlyn and me, we'll bring him to justice."
As Li Lin rambled without getting to the point, Caitlyn stepped in, "We just need someone familiar with the sewers' layout."
"Oh, you came to me for that? Should've said so earlier." Vander chuckled and turned to Li Lin, "Since you've assigned Huck to oversee the Tide Generator Station, I'll find someone else... What about Kode?"
Kode, the bald and muscular man who had interacted with Li Lin before, and one of Vander's most trusted subordinates.
Li Lin nodded, "Kode will do... Where is he now?"
Vander looked at the clock on the wall, "He should be here in about half an hour. Why don't you two sit and have some iced tea in the meantime?"
Li Lin glanced at Caitlyn, seeking her opinion. She turned her head to check the clock, "Sure, half an hour is manageable."
Then, Caitlyn removed her breath filter, furrowed her brows slightly to adjust to the air, and took a sip of her iced tea.
"Oh, I almost forgot something," Vander, who had turned to continue tidying the bar, suddenly recalled and faced Li Lin, who had unmasked and sipped his tea.
"Lately, there's a middle-aged Shuriman man visiting my inn, getting drunk every day. He's been asking about whether there are skilled armor crafters in Zaun, inquiring about you...
"Of course, I haven't disclosed any information about you. He got wind of it from others, seeing you wandering around the Undercity in powered armor regularly."
Shuriman? Looking for an armor crafter?
Li Lin's heart skipped a beat. Could it be...
Before he could overthink, the inn's doorbell chimed, producing a crisp sound.
Subsequently, a hoarse, heavy-accented voice shouted, "Boss, same as usual."
Li Lin, Caitlyn, and Vander's attention simultaneously shifted to the entrance.
There stood a middle-aged man in worn-out Shuriman-style coat, with traditional Shuriman attire visible beneath.
The man had a tousled black short hair, and his slightly dark skin. His eyes, occasionally flashing a tinge of sadness, were filled with crimson blood vessels, making him look as if he hadn't had a good night's sleep in a long time, giving off a somewhat listless demeanor.
"That's the guy I was talking about," Vander reminded Li Lin in a hushed tone. He then turned to prepare drinks for the middle-aged man.
The middle-aged man seemed not to notice Li Lin in powered armor at the bar. Perhaps his somewhat scattered attention completely ignored these "irrelevant" matters.
He walked towards a corner near the entrance, sat down, and lowered his head in contemplation. Occasionally, a long sigh could be heard.
"Judging by his appearance, he seems to have lost his beloved family," Caitlyn quickly concluded from her recent observations. "Moreover, he wants to make a set of armor, which could prove that his family might have been killed by someone."
Or perhaps not by someone...
Hearing her words, Li Lin suddenly felt that his speculation was almost spot on.
Just to confirm his guess, he opened the "Data Mind" and glanced at the corner.
[Name: Kassadin]
[Race: Shuriman]
[Occupation: Caravan Guide (Unemployed)]
[...]
Indeed, it was Kassadin...
Li Lin couldn't help but feel a sense of joy.
Before the crossover, Kassadin was affectionately called "Father-in-law" by League of Legends players.
(TN: Probably coz most players wants to bang Kai'Sa)
If Kassadin came to Zaun to make equipment at this point in time, it would prove that his daughter Kai'Sa had been swallowed by the Void for at least a few years.
Just as Li Lin was contemplating, Caitlyn curiously asked behind him, "But as a Shuriman, why would he come to Zaun?"
"Didn't he say he wanted to make armor?" Cait sighed lightly. "For revenge?" she added.
When Vander served the man a glass of strong liquor and collected the money, returning to the bar.
After much contemplation, Li Lin stood up and walked directly to Kassadin in the corner.
"Li Lin? What are you doing?" she called out in confusion.
Hearing the familiar name "Li Lin," Kassadin, who had just taken a sip of the liquor, immediately raised his head, and his gaze turned towards the source of the sound.
When he saw Li Lin in powered armor, a look of shock flashed across Kassadin's face.
"Water and Shade To You," Li Lin greeted him with a Shuriman salutation. "May I sit here?"
He pointed to the empty seat opposite Kassadin.
"Offering me water and shade..." Kassadin responded with a slight surprise, then nodded.
With his consent, Li Lin pulled out a chair and sat in front of him.
"Let me introduce myself. My name is Li Lin... I heard from the bar owner that you are looking for me?"
