In the top floor of the Kiramman estate, within Li Lin's studio, specially arranged by Lady Cassandra.
Even though Lady Cassandra had provided a workshop for him, this studio still belonged to Li Lin. Therefore, he meticulously separated the functions that overlapped between the studio and the workshop.
The studio was where he dedicatedly conceptualized and designed new blueprints, while the workshop served as the space for crafting cutting-edge technological devices.
Li Lin, turning on the room's pendant light, led Caitlyn to the innermost room. He opened the safe in the corner and retrieved a considerably heavy Hextech chest.
Subsequently, using a Hextech key that matched the unique lock mechanism, he unlocked the chest. From it, he took out over ten blueprints.
Caitlyn randomly picked up one of the blueprints from Li Lin's hands and asked, "What are these blueprints?"
As she wasn't interested in Hextech inventions, she looked down for a while but couldn't make sense of it.
Li Lin took back the blueprint and chuckled. "Why are you laughing?" Caitlyn was a bit dissatisfied, thinking he was mocking her. She hmphed, "I haven't studied mechanical theory, isn't it normal for me not to understand?"
"You've misunderstood me," Li Lin shook his head, waving the blueprint he had just taken back from her. "I haven't fully grasped this thing myself; it's just a concept. You not understanding is perfectly fine."
This was a blueprint for an artificial satellite, a communication-type. However, before transmigrating, Li Lin hadn't paid much attention to things he didn't encounter in his daily life.
After transmigrating, Piltover and Zaun lacked such technological advancements. This blueprint was only a rough idea based on his own knowledge. Even if he could perfect it, it depended on whether the system could generate such technology in the future.
Then, Li Lin handed another meticulously labeled blueprint to Caitlyn. "Take a look at this one."
Caitlyn, skeptical, took it and raised her eyebrows after glancing at it. "Wireless intercom... Can it achieve wireless communication over short distances?"
Suddenly, she looked up, shock evident in her pupils. "Wireless communication? Have you already researched an advanced version of the wired telephone so quickly?"
"Not exactly," Li Lin thought of the indispensable smartphones in people's daily lives on Earth before transmigration and sighed. "Compared to the final product that I want, it still has a long way to go. However, it will become indispensable in the future."
After taking back the blueprint from Caitlyn, Li Lin said, "Let's go. We've wasted quite some time; Lady Cassandra might be waiting for us."
Just as Caitlyn was about to ask about the wireless intercom, her expression changed slightly. "Right, I almost forgot about this!"
...
...
A few minutes later, the two descended from the upper floor to the second floor, looking down from the corridor railing at the guest hall on the first floor.
As expected, Lady Cassandra was already seated on the sofa, pouring herself a cup of tea.
Seemingly hearing the movement upstairs, she didn't turn her head, her voice neither warm nor cold. "What are you two still standing there for?"
Caitlyn's small face changed slightly, her heart pounding. She exchanged a glance with Li Lin, who signaled with his mouth, "I'm here, don't worry." Only then did her tense heart relax a bit.
Subsequently, under Li Lin's lead, Caitlyn closely followed behind him. The two approached from the staircase to the opposite side of Cassandra.
Throughout the entire time, Cassandra didn't raise her head to look at them, her gaze fixed on the Hextech kettle on the table emitting steam.
Apart from the boiling noises coming from the kettle, the room was silent.
The atmosphere in the guest hall became exceedingly heavy for a moment.
Caitlyn, who had slightly relaxed under Li Lin's comfort, became nervous again.
Even Li Lin, facing this situation and his "mother-in-law," couldn't help but swallow a bit nervously, feeling a hint of tension.
After a while, Cassandra's azure eyes turned upward, sweeping faintly over the two. Her gaze briefly paused on the blueprints in Li Lin's hands.
"Sit, why are you standing?"
Upon hearing these words, Caitlyn quickly sat upright on the sofa, still lowering her small face, appearing as if caught in the act by her parents.
Li Lin, on the other hand, stared at the pressure intentionally or unintentionally exerted by Cassandra, sitting beside Caitlyn. He even boldly grabbed her small hand, intertwining his fingers with hers.
The young girl was startled, hastily glancing at her mother sitting across from her, realizing her attention was not on this side. She attempted to free her hand from Li Lin's grasp, fearing her mother's discovery, yet dared not exert too much force, unable to pull her hand away.
Caitlyn raised her face to glare at Li Lin, only to receive a reassuring look from him.
Helpless, she could only once again lower her gaze with apparent concern, as if resigned to her fate, burying her face in her chest, refraining from observing her mother's expression.
Lady Cassandra naturally noticed Li Lin's actions. However, she merely glanced indifferently, raised the tea, blew on it, took a sip, and remained silent.
The atmosphere in the living room once again descended into gloom.
After a few more minutes, as the door to the corridor squeaked open, the agonizing atmosphere surrounding Caitlyn was finally shattered.
"Oh, damn it, that old bastard Kevold really disgusts me. Finally got rid of him..."
Tobias, slightly flushed, pushed the door open, grumbling as he walked in.
He exuded a strong smell of alcohol, having evidently consumed quite a bit.
Seeing his wife, daughter, and Li Lin sitting silently in the living room, Tobias, still unaware of what was happening, staggered over to sit beside Cassandra.
He swayed, and with a hiccup, said, "Dear, why did you ask me to get rid of Kevold if you're going to do this?"
In the expressionless face of Cassandra and the seemingly guilty Caitlyn sitting across, Tobias scanned back and forth, sensing that something was amiss.
Then, he finally noticed the tightly held hands of Li Lin and Caitlyn, furrowing his brow deeply. "You two...?"
"You finally noticed, dear," Lady Cassandra said, her tone carrying a hint of displeasure. It was directed at her husband, who had been too engrossed in socializing tonight and had overlooked her daughter's complaints.
"Tonight, the butler told me about them dancing and kissing," she continued, taking another sip of tea, her voice regaining its calm.
Because Lady Cassandra was the head of the Kiramman family, any events within the household were reported to her. Only in her absence would the matters be reported to Tobias.
So, he was completely unaware of what happened in the adjacent reception hall tonight.
Tobias' intoxication suddenly dissipated, and a bewildered expression appeared on his face. "You two... When did this start?"
"If we talk about being completely certain about the relationship, it's tonight," Li Lin responded calmly.
Tobias looked at his wife beside him with a somewhat confused expression. "This..."
"Tonight's coming-of-age ceremony. I presented the most precious gift to Cait and confirmed our relationship in front of everyone," Li Lin explained quickly, observing the expressions of Cait's parents.
The primary focus was on Cait's mother.
Lady Cassandra, maintaining control over her emotions better than her husband, showed no obvious change in her facial expression.
"I think, whether I am qualified or not should not be judged by others," Li Lin interrupted her before she could finish her sentence.
He then handed over more than a dozen drawings he had been holding to the Kiramman couple.
Lady Cassandra frowned, a hint of anger flashing across her face. "My daughter is not a commodity. Do you think you can buy me with these drawings?"
"Take a look before making judgments," Li Lin calmly suggested, standing up and placing the drawings in front of them.
Suppressing her anger, Lady Cassandra picked up the drawings and glanced at them casually. However, her attention was immediately captivated by the content of the drawings.
Tobias noticed his wife's unusual reaction and quickly picked up one to take a look.
These were precisely Li Lin's conceptual drawings of artificial satellites...
Tobias took a sharp breath, hastily exchanging drawings with his wife to check again. All of them were Hextech technology, including Hextech gunblades, Hextech rocket belts, Hextech ice guns, and various other Hextech devices.
Moreover, Li Lin included drawings of fuel motorcycles and cars in the stack.
However, the Kiramman couple, unfamiliar with petroleum, did not pay much attention to these.
These weapons and unfamiliar means of transportation were no match for radio transceivers, communication stations, and communication satellites that could push the era forward. It was even more unthinkable technology.
"This..."
As an outstanding Hextech artisan, Tobias was shocked beyond words.
Compared to her husband, Lady Cassandra, with a better aristocratic demeanor, controlled her emotions better and did not show a significant change in her facial expression.
"I think this should be considered my betrothal gift to the Kiramman family... And, with your consent, I believe you will respect Cait's wishes," Li Lin said after taking a deep breath.
His brown-black eyes met the gaze of Tobias and Cassandra consecutively.
Their eyes, guided by Li Lin's discreet signals, turned to their daughter.
With Li Lin's encouragement, Caitlyn summoned her courage and said to her parents, "Li Lin is right; we are genuinely in love."
The room fell into a long silence again until Li Lin spoke once more:
"Of course, what I can offer to the Kiramman family is more than that; I also have a promise."
He paused for a moment, "I will make the Kiramman family the number one family in Piltover. It won't take long."
