Chapter 179 - CHAPTER 179 - The Mouth of the Abyss

"Get out of here! The strength of this monster is far greater than the guardian of the Void rift underground in the Valley of Songs!"

Under the chitinous Void helmet, a look of astonishment flashed across Kaisa's face. "What?! How is this possible..."

Her voice, hollow and hoarse, sounded as if it didn't even belong to this plane of existence.

Even Li Lin was taken aback by Nasus's evaluation.

Despite having ranked Rek'Sai's strength among the top of his known Void creatures, he still underestimated it.

At that moment, Rek'Sai's upper body emerged from the sand sea, with dorsal fins towering over ten meters high, shimmering with a terrifying purplish-green evil light.

Kaisa sensed the continuous compression of Void energy and exclaimed, "Be careful! It's brewing some kind of high-energy attack!"

Just as her voice fell, an invisible surge of energy gushed out, rushing towards them like a speeding train.

Fortunately, Nasus reacted swiftly, channeling golden sand rapidly into his body, enlarging himself.

In his ascended form, his size increased by more than twenty meters in an instant, the magic of the heavens thickening the magical barrier, the pulsating blue magic arcs colliding with the purplish-green Void energy shockwave.

Celestial magic and Void energy were incompatible, purifying and corroding each other, generating tremendous energy shockwaves that shook the earth, instantly dispersing the sand dunes beneath Nasus's feet, turning them into a basin filled with gathered quicksand.

Li Lin and the others were affected by the shockwave, unable to control their balance and almost falling into the flowing sand sea behind them.

Fortunately, Kassadin and Kai'sa both had the ability to escape, tearing through the Void and overloading their skin armor to accelerate out of the desert basin beneath their feet.

Li Lin adjusted his position using the teleportation function of his powered armor, simultaneously activating the overload charge, keeping up with Sivir as she dashed ahead with her father.

As the saying goes, when immortals fight, mortals suffer. Nasus, now swollen to tens of meters in size, began wrestling with Rek'Sai.

Although Nasus's melee strength was considerable and he was a great sage, proficient in many ancient arcane and celestial magics, he had long neglected martial skills and couldn't match Rek'Sai's extensive combat experience in the short term.

However, to avoid affecting Li Lin, Kassadin, Kai'sa, and Sivir as ordinary humans, Nasus intentionally led Rek'Sai away from this area, choosing another battlefield.

Under the influence of the power of the gods and the Void, the sky over Shurima had become dim and gloomy, with swathes of melancholic clouds engulfing the heavens, countless grains of sand swept along by the black hurricane accompanying the arrival of death.

Now, with the naked eye, it was impossible to see the battle between Nasus and Rek'Sai, only two vaguely large figures and the intertwining blue and purple energies within the boundless storm, accompanied by their furious roars echoing in the ears.

After managing to run a considerable distance, Sivir allowed Li Lin to set her down, spitting out a few mouthfuls and ejecting the sand that had blown into her mouth moments ago.

"Damn it! Nasus's strength today is far greater than that underground in the Valley of Songs!" she wiped her mouth, glancing back at the distant battlefield with lingering fear.

"That's underground, with limited space. It's normal for him not to unleash his full power," Li Lin shook his head.

But he wasn't really concerned about that.

The battle between Nasus and Rek'Sai was without suspense; a Void creature couldn't withstand the power of a celestial warrior, it was just a matter of time.

However, he wouldn't get Rek'Sai's head this time.

Regrettable, but Li Lin wasn't foolish enough to intervene in a battle between demigods.

What concerned him most were the five storm robots that had already gone offline on his holographic display.

Just as Li Lin hadn't managed to recall the storm back to Nasus's magical barrier before it was destroyed by the energy shockwave, they fell into the sand sea and disappeared without a trace.

This was the first time in his history of combat damage, and it was only natural to feel sorry; they were all made of precious blue crystals!

Rek'Sai's strength had indeed exceeded Li Lin's expectations, but fortunately, he still had 21 storms left.

Given the current situation, prioritizing the search for Malzahar's whereabouts was relatively low, and dealing with the encirclement of Xer'Sai was the most important task right now.

Seemingly instructed by Rek'Sai, the numerous Xer'Sai, who were as comfortable in the desert as fish in water, fearlessly surrounded the group that had just left the demigod battlefield.

They no longer hesitated like before but rushed forward like rabid dogs.

Li Lin summoned the nearest eight storm robots, which were rushing back at full speed, taking about two to three minutes.

During this gap, with their strength, dealing with these Xer'Sai was more than enough... if they didn't burrow underground.

Regrettably, Li Lin reluctantly purchased three storm robots from the Essence Store with only energy crystals as support, spending a total of 900 blue essence.

Because Kassadin, Kai'sa, and Sivir's attention had been focused on the Xer'Sai, they hadn't noticed the previous storms crashing down.

They didn't question the appearance of these three aerial mechanical units.

With the firepower support of the storms, the Xer'Sai suffered heavy casualties, making it difficult for them to get close.

Li Lin vented all his anger at the loss of his mechanical creations on these nauseating corrupted monsters.

[You killed 3 Void Burrowers...]

[You killed 9 ordinary Xer'Sai...]

[You killed 12 juvenile Xer'Sai...]

With constant prompts from the system in his mind, Li Lin's wealth column surged upwards like a blue essence.

After over two minutes, as the storm robots from afar returned, the battle gradually shifted from evenly matched to one-sided.

Dozens, even hundreds of Aix corpses scattered about emitted a foul, nauseating stench.

Combined with the corrosive liquid flowing within them, Li Lin and his companions had to constantly change positions.

Until...

A strange, gravelly voice not belonging to this world echoed in their minds: "Smell the scent of tender flesh!"

The first to sense the anomaly, Kaisa quickly devoured the core she had dug out of the skull of a certain Xer'Sai, her small face suddenly turning towards the southeast.

Shortly after, Li Lin, Kassadin, and Sivir all instinctively followed Kaisa's gaze towards the distance.

There, a grotesque creature wrapped in dark brown carapace, bearing a slight resemblance to the summoned Xer'Sai but much larger, was swiftly approaching.

It stood about three to four meters tall, with a tail that should be about four to five meters long, its face covered in scales resembling those of a Vastayan mermaid.

A pair of sturdy hind legs took large strides on the sand, while the atrophied front claws were tucked beside the massive mouth that occupied most of its body.

Most peculiar was the spiral esophagus hanging from its mouth, filled with needle-like teeth, dripping with a green, putrid, corrosive slime, leaving conspicuous marks on the desert.

Li Lin drew in a breath of dry, stinging hot air.

The image of this monster was all too familiar to him, as it was Kog'Maw, who, after receiving enlightenment from the Void by Malzahar, tore through the material barrier and arrived at the depths of Runeterra—the Immortal Bastion.

Currently, they had not yet encountered Malzahar, but the Void was urging them to meet...

"That creature also emits a strong Void aura," Kaisa's voice carried a hint of uncertainty, "but... it's different from any Void creature I've encountered."

Because it came directly from the Void's plane to Runeterra, completely different from creatures like Voidlings, Rek'Sai, and Xer'Sai, which were creations of Runeterra...

Li Lin explained to Kaisa in his mind.

He didn't understand what Kog'Maw was exactly, nor did he know what would happen when this Mouth of the Abyss met Malzahar.

After all, in the original timeline, they had never even met... Or maybe he just hadn't known about it.

Li Lin speculated that the Void had devoured another, or even countless, vibrant planets.

Because within the Void, there exists only one species—the Void Watchers.

And creatures like Voidborn Kog'Maw, Void Predator Kha'Zix, which exist in the Void dimension and directly descend into the world of Runeterra, must come from another world.

"Regardless of what it is, I can tell it's not friendly!"

As Chalicar, thrown out by Sivir, killed a Voidling and returned to her hand, she coldly watched Kog'Maw, who was now less than 100 meters away from them.

Li Lin felt heavy-hearted, first instructing the five storm robots to continue attacking the Xer'Sai, then commanding the other six to lock onto Kog'Maw.

Compared to the threat of the burrowing beasts, this "hero" level monster was much more formidable.
