Scarlett clinging to his arm, ready in case they had to teleport, Ethan opened the door to another room.
It was a strong door that creaked upon opening it, and they had to push it. Inside, dust was flying around in the dark. Ethan's Dimensional Senses tingled with the understanding that nothing was moving in the room as they walked towards the window inside.
Scarlette clung to him tightly, knowing he would use his Dimensional Senses to keep sharp things at bay. Reaching the window, Ethan tied a dark cloth around it, and with a relieved sigh, she turned on the light.
The white brilliance illuminated the whole room.
Both of them couldn't help but fall silent.
This room was the same as any: empty.
In the center of the room stood an ominous well, shrouded in shadows so deep they seemed to swallow light itself. The sight alone sent a tingling unease creeping over their skin.
Gathering his nerve with an audible gulp, Ethan stepped forward, drawn inexorably towards the enigmatic darkness.
The ship trembled subtly beneath their feet, but the two onboard didn't feel a thing, too caught up in their own tasks. Outside the hull, the leviathan of the deep unfurled its tentacles with silent precision, coiling around the ship's frame, intent on dragging it into the ocean's depths.
With a quick lighting in, Scarlett illuminated the insides of the well. Yet, they were both stunned to see there were no ghosts inside.
A faint voice asked, "What do you think?"
A chill rising on her back, she looked at Ethan with a fierce glare and looked back into the well. Underground, there were some kinds of glowing paintings and nothing else.
"Ah," she made a slight noise, and it echoed back.
"Seems safe," Ethan pointed.
"Getting in, Ethe?"
"Yep."
He wrapped his hands around her waist, and they vanished before appearing inside the well. They had teleported.
She immediately activated her "Pillar of Protection" around them, a globe of green protective light. Yet no traps were triggered, nor did dangerous things happen. Ethan looked at the glowing drawings on the ground and understood they were writings.
Seeing no danger after a while, she didn't turn off her protective spell and just looked at the jibberish-like writing around them. "Uh, it's some foreign language. Maybe alien tongue."
Ethan, on the other hand, was focused entirely on reading them.
After a while, he read out loud what was written around them: "Dimensional Immortal Well, Me, the great Core Disciple Gu Yuntian's Abode. If you're a junior sister, welcome; if you're a man, except for my 3rd Senior Brother who is as fair as a woman, please leave, for this young master only has eyes for the sisters.
"P.S. Oh, if it is Master, Damn you, you pig of an old man, I am too tired of driving this ship. Bring in your next disciple already."
Startled, Scarlett questioned, "You can read them?"
Ethan nodded, his heart filled with questions. He didn't know how he could read them. He just could. "This seems to be some kind of notice left behind in front of a living area or something."
She nodded, a weird expression on her face.
He received a calling from this ship and could also read this place's weird letters. What connection did this place have with Ethe?
Both of them then looked around more clearly and saw a slight depression in the wooden walls to Ethan's left. Cautious, Ethan moved closer and gave it a kick. The Ability Pillar of Protection didn't limit a person's attack from inside the bubble and only protected them from outside forces, so it was easier.
With an explosion of dust, a room appeared in front of them, and they looked at each other, their gazes soon following to look at a skeleton in the middle of the room in tattered robes. This place was matted in dust, and there were a lot of rotten weeds.
Taking deep breaths, they entered cautiously. Anytime they wanted, they could teleport. Reaching a meter away from the skeleton without anything happening, they looked at it.
Yellowed bones, hollow eyes, tattered, thread-like robes. A ring on its forefinger, lying loosely there covered in dust. And there was a small jade tablet on the other side with a word written in that foreign language: DIMENSION.
The room fell into heavy silence as they looked at it. This thing must have been here for ages. In this dark sea, alone.
Wrapping the ring with his Dimensional Senses, he tried to pull it into his hands using a teleportation, but for some reason, it didn't budge.
Ethan mumbled, surprised, "This person's ring seems to be in another dimension or something. We will have to touch it."
Fwoosh!
Two thick rubber gloves appeared on his hand, and he stretched his hand for the ring. Scarlett clung to him, making the protective field of her ability follow his hand. He could quickly pull out.
Yet, nothing terrible happened, and the ring was soon in their hands, followed by the jade tablet. They grew calm.
But a second later, a cold wind appeared in the room, the skeleton stirred, and their hearts thumped inside their chests as two green globes of flame lit up in its eyes.
A long, eery silence stretched in the room as they all looked at each other.
Ethan wanted to teleport away, but space had tightened upon the skeleton's wake. Throughout the room, maggots began appearing out of nowhere, squirming. His hand tightly clung to Scarlett's. Cold sweat oozed out of his back.
The green flame in the skeleton's eyes flickered, and the emergency light in Scarlett's hand was squashed and turned to dust. Soon after, her Pillar of Protection also flashed and turned off. Crimson blood seeped out of her lips. She was about to turn into her fairy form.
Ethan got ready to fight, his gaze cold.
Yet, suddenly, the maggots around them exploded into smoke, and both felt a warm sensation coursing through their bodies. Their wounds began to heal, Ethan's leg mended on its own, Scarlett felt her upper arm itch as it healed, their mind began to calm down, and their surroundings started to shift.
They could only passively look on with shock.
They were now in a bright and beautiful garden full of flowers, and above them was a blue sky. The skeleton also slowly shifted, flesh and blood seemingly growing on it, its appearance becoming that of a handsome young man. In looks alone, Ethan and Scarlett had never seen someone as gorgeous as the person before them.
They felt their hearts shake. What was going on?
The young man spoke, his voice calm, his black eyes like those of an abyss, "Core Disciple of the Dimensional Immortal Sect, Gu Yuntian. Fourth disciple of the Sect Master."
Ethan and Scarlett looked at him, not knowing what to say.
