"So this all started roughly 14 billion years ago. I was young then, fresh out of the Celestial Egg and into the wide open yonder. That's where I made my first and only mistake... you."
[Silence fills the void]
"You might be wondering what this disembodied voice is saying, where you are, what's happening—yada yada... Long story short, you're dead. Not just dead—super dead. Your death caused the collapse of your reality. My mistake—i.e., you—were the linchpin for that universe. Being said linchpin granted you some leeway with fate, destiny, and all that cosmic bureaucracy. What it didn't grant was free reign over your designated death. I mean, seriously—sharks? How cliché is that? For your information, you were supposed to die in your 80s, at home, during one final... ambitious attempt at self-gratification."
[More deafening silence]
"Here's what's going to happen: since this is partially the fault of my cosmic youth, I'm giving you these three Essences as consolation. New life, fresh start, and a ticket to ride the vast multiverse—survive or die at your leisure. Any questions, Avery?"
"Actually—"
"None? Fantastic! Off you go!"
One incomprehensible kick through the void later
(Avery's POV)
My head feels like it's been tap-danced on by a herd of elephants. Peeling myself off the dirty alleyway concrete after my less-than-elegant face-first landing, I try to collect my thoughts.
Quick rundown: I died, which apparently caused my entire universe to collapse. Some cosmic douchebag ROB (Random Omnipotent Being) just punted me to... oh shit... an SCP Foundation universe. In Portland, Maine of all places, if my new Essences are telling the truth. And these "ordinarily useful" abilities? They're about as helpful here as a paper umbrella in a hurricane.
"Nope. Absolutely nope."
After calmly processing this not-at-all-disturbing revelation (and the subsequent realization of my impending doom in an incalculable number of ways), I decide it's time to make like a tree and leave. No reason to stick around, especially not this early in my unexpected multiversal journey.
"Time to test these nomad powers and get the hell out of dodge. I need safety, calm, power... and maybe some writing lessons." Focusing with an expression that borders between deep concentration and severe constipation, I picture a universe I know will be relatively safe.
"Well... time to go penguin sledding.

Future chapters will be longer, this one was mainly to get it going, again this is mainly for me to kill some time and practice a bit. If you enjoy it cool, if not then sorry I guess? I'll be trying to pump out at least 2-3 ch a week.
