The old woman heaved a sigh after her two children left, then turned around and headed toward her room. The two children should do well together and make each other comfortable, she did not need to be in the middle.
'Alice did not look any good.'
That condition was only natural from what she heard, but the woman still felt anxious.
Alice was too lively and strong before. Although she occasionally changed her personality as if someone pressed a switch button, she was endearing and lovable in both cases.
And always showed a strong appearance.
"Karla, how is everything?"
The woman, Karla, turned around and frowned lightly at the sight.
"Why are you like this now? I thought I was clear about what you should and should not do."
In front of her, Christopher was standing with his clothes soaking in blood. Some even splattered over his face, making him look both dirty and terrible in Karla's eyes.
'No injuries at least. Thank goodness.' She secretly relaxed a bit.
"Nothing much, just dealt with some rats. It was necessary."
Casually throwing off his bloody coat on the ground, Christopher approached her. Rats, it was a metaphor for the annoying pests He had to deal with occasionally. He tilted his head as a smile crept to his smile upon noticing her bag.
"You did it in the end, as expected from my mother."
If Alice was there right now, she might scream and faint from shock and disbelief. She had always thought that only her and Reno were Karla's children. How come Christopher was now one?
Before he could say more, he felt his ear being pulled harshly by her, she scolded, "You are such a rogue."
"Ouchh- damn this ah- Karla!"
He cursed in pain, feeling her sharp nails digging into his ears. Not like she cared, though. She dragged him away while ordering the servants to clean their trails.
"Clean this mess up as quickly as possible."
The servants all lowered their heads and nodded without saying any more words, moving swiftly to clean the place up.
'Huu… This boy is truly worrying me. Did I make the right decision at all?'
Karla felt conflicted at that moment. She glanced at the papers in her bag and sighed internally. She only wanted the best for Alice, especially after hearing everything from Christopher..
But she still had some doubts.
'I was right about Marcos being trash. I could not expect anything less from the song that man had raised.'
She gritted her teeth, thinking about her husband's face as he escaped the house with that mistress of his. They were truly a trashy couple, very fitting of each other though.
Unlike what Alice thought, Karla's husband was not dead. In fact, he was alive and even had a child, Marcos.
Karla also was not alone, she had a child to raise aside from them. But because she was a friend of her parents and Reno's parents, she adopted them.
How could she let those children destroy themselves? Especially with how Alice was barely living off a few bucks she earned through many shady means.
She came to her and snatched her from that dark world.
Somehow, though, Alice kept calling her grandma while Reno called her mother. The two children were of the same age. But apparently Alice felt it was only appropriate to call her that.
Meanwhile her true child, Christopher, was there messing with a few guns and bitches in order to mature.
Karla had failed to raise him by herself, despite trying to keep him at home. So, the street did it instead. Along with a few gangs, nothing major, only normal gang activities.
Not that he hated it or anything, Christopher was that type of person.
He valued his freedom more than anything, and was still very loyal and filial to his family. Despite how his father was a bastard with him from the get go, he tried to redeem him.
'Alas, that man was a lost cause.'
Despite the effort, nothing worked out. Thus, Christopher did not hesitate to fight his father like an enemy. He was both ruthless and caring, which made Karla think her decision was right.
Christopher was a good husband, as long as his wife can control him, that is. A meek wife would be suitable to anyone but him, he needed a dominant, lively wife who would stand by his side or put him in his place.
Thus, she just made Alice sign the marriage certificate. With Christopher as her husband. It was a rash decision, making her rethink a few times.
But what could she do anymore? She, unfortunately, was very sick now. Her heart may not help her to continue for a very long time.
Alice's ability to survive on her own was great. She managed a lot of difficult situations and got back to her knees by herself. But that was only before.
Her judgment of her love interest was lacking. Marcos was trash, but she still loved him so deeply. Now, many will be after her and after the wealth she will inherit once Karla kicks the bucket.
How could she let her precious girl in that danger?
Christopher came to tell her about everything that had happened, and she was stunned beyond belief. Eventually, he suggested that he marry Alice since everything had happened.
A political marriage. They were not siblings by blood or even in papers, they were never raised together, there was no reason for them to be unable to marry.
"At the end, I listened to you."
She scowled as she threw him inside the room, Christopher groaned and scratched his head.
"Soo, she just agreed like that? Did you have to persuade her?"
"She signed without even asking anything. For that, Christopher, I swear if you dare to hurt her in any way…"
He snatched the paper from Karla's bag while groaning softly, "Ugh, yes yes, I know. I didn't plan to hurt her at all anyway."
A smile bloomed on his face.
'Heh, Mei. We didn't need to wait so long for this to happen~'
The joy in his eyes made Karla even more worried.
