Chapter 1 - Chapter 1.The Chase.

Inside An Epic Ranked Gate.

Two figures tore through the undergrowth, their lungs burning, legs screaming in protest. Every rustle, every stomp behind them sent shivers down their spines. They knew their situation was dire, a truth hammered home by the chilling echoes of monstrous croaks that followed behind them

Their only bet is to reach the 'Gate' entrance, they would be in a lot of trouble but their odds are, getting in trouble with the authorities versus death by a giant frog monster, a no-brainer right? The beast is a colossal frog, its skin glistening with a sickening sheen, its bulging eyes fixed on them with predatory hunger, ready to snatch any of them at a moment's notice.

They had seen it devour their friends and companions, those who let their guard down because it was in quote " just an overgrown frog " and others who had been too slow to escape. They have no idea why their luck was so bad as to meet something of this 'Rank' here.

It is normal to expect the unexpected in an 'Epic Gate', but this is because the possibility of encountering a 'Unique Epic Rank' beast is 20%. The strengths of these beasts are stronger than the average 'Epic Rank' beast, with some even stronger than 'Legend Ranks'. That being said, the chance of encountering a 'Legend Rank' beast In an 'Epic Gate' is less than 2%. Most of them have their own 'Gates', and only monsters of the 'Unique Legend Rank' stay alone in a 'Gate', since they are about to evolve.

But why did these two and their companions, come to such a dangerous place? Are they weak? Of course, they are not weak. They belong to an organization called 'Divers', who break into 'Gates' illegally to secure resources. The weakest of them is a High-epic-ranked human with a giant bloodline, while some ranged between, Low and Mid-Legend-Ranks with their leader was a high-Legend-rank human. In total, there were 24 of them. But, as a wise man once said, "The most dangerous adversary is the one you underestimate."

Leading the desperate dash was Kai, one of the Low Legend Ranks that the team had, he has a cheetah bloodline thus his running speed and thinking speed are reasonable, superhuman even but as we all know, fate is a bitch, the second person with him and the person slowing him down is nonother that the High Epic Ranked human who is also his girlfriend.

As they run, he glances back at her and sees her pale and terrified. She gasps for air, her chest rising and falling rapidly. Blood drips from the cut on her forehead, staining her cheek. Seeing this he strengthens his grip on her hand, which causes her to look at his face, with her eyes meeting his, he tries to smile, wanting to reassure her, to tell her that they would make it but the truth about reality causes him to keep quiet after all he is scared too.

Truth be told he is using every shred of humanity left in him to keep holding on to her since without her he has a 70% chance of survival. As she is of giant bloodline she naturally has high physical defense and stamina with a good amount of physical damage but her speed is nothing noteworthy so she has to rely on him as he pulls her as he is running, this would be dangerous for someone else but her stamina is at play here. As a form of compensation though, if she enters the Legend rank she will awaken another talent from her bloodline as that is what having a bloodline does for you but the key word is IF.

With thoughts of what to do next, he hears the croaking sound getting closer, he turns his head and sees the frog monster leaping toward them, for some reason, it has increased its pace. It was closing the gap, its tongue lashing out like a whip.

He pulls her closer, trying to give her a boost, and screams, "Run! Run faster!" He knows she is trying her best, but he wants her to try harder. At this point, he can notice signs of a 'Safe Zone', the place you arrive at when you enter a gate. So, to give her some encouragement, he says, "Come on, we can make it Lara, we're almost there."

But this has the opposite effect.

Has it ever happened to you, you're outside working, and a sudden urge to pee overtake you, but there is no restroom around so you hold it in, what happens when you do see one? The urge Multiplies!! That is just how the human body is. It reacts negatively to hope, well that's how I put it.

Her stamina has long been depleted, but she is holding on strong through her determination to live, repeating to herself 'Just a little more'. But as his words reach her ears, her legs give out and her speed reduces considerably.

This does not go unnoticed by the monster, and as Kai looks back to know why she is falling behind, he watches in horror as its tongue wraps around her waist and pulls her into its gaping mouth. He hears a loud and mocking croak as it closes its jaws around her.
