Chapter 4 - 4

March 1, 2021, 8:42pm

"There's at least thirty bags, we should start counting the money, see how much we scored." Sam says.

"There's got to be at least one mil, what if the person who left all of this comes back for it?"

"Ah fuck'em, who cares, we can just take'em out the second they step through the door."

"Hey, look at the TV," they had found a TV while cleaning, it only had one channel, the news "it's showing us!"

"Just three hours ago, two children, Derik Justin Smith, age sixteen, and Sam Avon Davis, age fourteen, were reported missing; police are still looking for them. An anonymous source said they were walking down an alley by Hunter Street where Derik then shot them, barely missing their eye, they also believe he and Sam were involved in the death of the wanted criminal, Pedro Hanson, part of the Desmond mafia, and the robbery of the gas station, Branch Gas And Grocery causing the death of the cashier, Charles Fulton." the news reporter says "Next up after the break, why are gas prices so high?" the TV displays the TPC news logo and the jingle plays, Derik then turns off the TV.

"Well ain't that just great, whatever, we're just gonna have to be careful. Y'know, it sounds like a great time to use these." Derik pulls the joints that he purchased around 20 minutes ago.

"Where'd you get those?" Sam asks.

"A bit up the road up near Walget."

"Huh, anyways, you got a lighter?"

"Yeah, found one while cleaning, looks all good." Derik lights their joints. Derik coughs, "Aw fuck nah, how the hell're you handling that so well!?" Derik walks outside, rubs the lit tip on the ground, and throws it off into the blackness of the yard.

"I've been smokin' since I was nine,'' Sam says "since my dad left for the milk,'' Sam continues "and my mom don't really care what I do, I mean, she actually cares for me… unlike my dad, but she's a bit neglectful of me and resents me because my dad left, like it's my fault… I guess it kinda is…" she starts tearing up and looks away.

"Hey, whatever made him leave, it wasn't because of you, I'm sure of it." Derik tries to comfort her

"But it was my fault! If I didn't come out, he would still be here."

"What do you mean?"

"I'm trans, when I came out, he was so angry he slapped me, blamed it on my friends, the internet, and a whole bunch of other things, he said I was delusional and that he needed to take a break and went outside, he left later that night." Sam slowly stops crying and wipes her tears away, "At least my mom was supportive, she got me a therapist who diagnosed me with gender dysphoria, all-in-all, the process was idiotic. I then got on puberty blockers, grew my hair out, bleached it, and got some voice lessons, not that my voice wasn't high-ish already, heheh. Anyways, that's basically the last five years of my life." Sam finishes, "fuck, my joint's out, whatever." Sam tosses the bud out of a broken window.

"Damn, my life story is basically nothing compared to yours." Derik says, with a hint of astonishment and sadness.

"Well, ya gonna tell me yours… or what?"

"Heh, might as well. So basically my dad and brother, who I got my middle name from, died in a car crash. I lived in El Nacimiento my whole life, up 'til now. I've been super into weapons of all sorts, which is why I'm pretty accurate and quick when shooting. I can hit the bullseye at any distance within eyeshot basically every time with pretty much any weapon, a gun, a bow and arrow, an axe, a javelin, and a ton of others. Though I haven't trained in explosives 'cause… well, explosives. Then my mom got fired from her job as the COO of JRMax 'cause they closed the bank, now she works here for Second Safety as a supervisor."

"Damn, so you're kinda rich huh? My mom works as a McDoug's manager."

"Eh, not really, she's kinda bad with money, that's why we moved here."

"Oh."

"yeah.'' Derik says, creating an awkward silence, "anyways, nuffa that, we got money to count, hell, we haven't even counted the safe money."

"We haven't! I completely forgot! Let's do that right now." They go over to the safe and start counting.

"four-hundred and fifty dollars, lot less than I expected. But hey, we still have those thirty-something bags of cash." Derik says with a hint of disappointment.

"Yeah, but like you said we still have those bags."

"We're rich!" Derik sings

"Fifteen million dollars! That's like… 3.75 million Migbacs."

"That's very interesting you both know the price of a Migbac, and you can do that level of math, off of the top of your head." Derik says, both impressed and confused.

"Yeah, I have a ton of random knowledge and I'm really good at math."

"Huh, cool. I'm gonna head to sleep, it's like 12:30, I've been up way too long."

"Good idea, I'm gonna do the same."

"Hey, it looks like there's only one bed, one of us is going to have to sleep on the floor."

"I'm fine with sleeping on the floor." Sam shrugs.

"Nah, I want you to have the bed, you deserve it, seeing as you cleaned ninety percent of the house." Derik insists.

"You sure?" Sam questions.

"Yeah."

"Ok." Sam folds, unable to resist the offer.
