Chapter 27 - Stormy Resilience

Isra held her chest frantically and coughed up blood on her hand. Breathing was getting harder with every moment, and vision was getting blurry with long pauses of darkness in between.

She was lying half-conscious somewhere atop a steep cliff. Inches away from being plunged into the depths of the ocean. Thunder roared loudly in the background. At this rate, she was going to die.

"Israa!" Qatan's voice resounded in the air. Isra gathered what little strength she had left and pushed herself to sit up. Out in the darkness of the storm, purple lightning shone violently, hitting the rageful ocean. And among the purple shone bright streaks of white as well.

A few seconds later, Qatan slammed into Isra and carried her up, flying against the wind at an amazing speed.

He looked back at the lethargic Isra and shouted.

"Isra, bite into my fluff."

She nodded and, without hesitation, bit deep into him and tore a chunk of fluff. Electricity ignited her veins, and the wound started closing rapidly.

"Don't look back, Isra!" Qatan shouted again.

"We are being chased by thunderbirds. You cannot look into their eyes, no matter what. Pull your head down and brace yourself."

She pushed her head deep into Qatan, and a tear among the rainwater flowed down her cheeks. What had she gotten herself into? She wondered, Where were Khadija and the rest of the team? Where were Miraaj and Haniya? She started sobbing.

Just then, a huge bolt of lightning illuminated the whole world, and she saw ugly shadows of flying monstrosities on the ground. Each was as big as a truck, and there were hundreds of them.

"Qatan, please, save me!" She begged him upon seeing the ominous view .On hearing this, Qatan lit up, and the whole world was left behind in just a moment. They zapped a few kilometers away, and that left him out of energy. He huffed frantically. But they were safe from the thunderbirds for now.

Isra got up quivering, her suit torn at the sides; she looked like an absolute mess. Qatan was much worse. His fluff had diminished to a great extent, and he was becoming transparent.

"Don't worry, Isra. You're safe," Qatan said in a weak voice.

Isra crawled towards him.

"But Qatan. You don't look alright; tell me what I should do."

"My time has come, Isra," he replied.

"I am going to pass out -."

At this, Isra started sobbing. She has had enough. She broke down.

"-And then be okay again in a few minutes, haha." Qatan finished the sentence.

And he got punched in return.
