Chapter 3 - Ch2 : Inhabitable Island

[Day 2]

The sun has risen above the horizon, evidencing the morning existence. Eyes fluttered open in the heavy ray of sunshine, and I found myself on the coast, out of the barrel.

I saw the sea in front of me and land which I was laying on. Both the situation and position are negative. I looked around the surrounding area and saw a huge coast along with a forest behind me.

Quite absurd. I was in the middle of the ocean with a storm a moment before and I just teleported on an island overnight, no?

In an attempt to stand, I fell back on the ground due to sudden nausea occurring in my mind, fogging the functions of my body.

What?

The fish, which I ate before, must be showing its effect even after now? What the heck that fish actually was?

Have mercy on me, lord. It is barely the second day of life in this world.

After a while, I stood up, with a better feeling, and found the barrel a bit far away but besides that, I caught an unsuitable glimpse of a huge creature swinging around the coast in the sea. It was huge, approximately thrice the length of human height.

'Sure the lord doesn't have mercy on me'

I grabbed the entire barrel and ran into the forest out of instinct. Never ever want to see that creature lurking me behind.

Forest becomes dense as I go through it. If I thought rationally, the biosphere of this island made this island inhabitable, which means numerous inhabitants must be living here.

I could hear the humming of insects, birds, animals or perhaps unknown creatures?

It sends shivers down my spine.

"Eh?"

A bird landed on my head. I was shocked to see it because of how different it was. I can perhaps make a major discovery if it was the previous world.

I tried to catch it but it flew over my head.

An hour passed and I didn't bump into any major creature other than insects and birds. However, those are significantly different from what I've seen. As expected.

From a distance, I find a river near the northeast corner of the island. When I ran towards it, I happened to find other inhabitants other than birds and insects. They were drinking the water from the river.

The one which attracted me the most was a creature similar to a horse which has various patterns on its back and front. It then walked away from the river, when I looked up to see where it was actually going and it was the movement I realized the presence of a mountain in front. The rivers' origin came from the glacier on top of the mountain. This island sure has nasty stuff.

All creatures seem to be passive, so I lean forward to drink water and carry it in the bag. I think of making a base close to the river, however it is still deep in the forest.

I placed the barrel down and looked at the area near the river which was good for a base. I started to think thoroughly and thoroughly.

Making a base on trees of understorey would be convenient to protect myself from any hostile inhabitant. However, I can't really do it. I also need to find some vegetation, I can't trust fish after all.

Will I find a better place? Let's keep walking.

Few moments later…

'Run! Run! Run!'

Sounder of swine similar creature in pack running before me! And for me!

They let out loud grunt and squeals. I didn't know there's a swamp and will bump into them. I am sorry!

"Oink!" They dashed at me and I ran with all might.

Few minutes later…

"huff, huff… That was close. Phew."

With all tough decisions, I decided to not go to the swamp in the eastern region. They're aggressive, moreover in a group, I definitely won't wish to run into them again.

In this hide n' seek, I wasted plenty of time. It's already afternoon. I should just make a base there!

In the end, I decided to pick a hollow tree as base. I can't see a possible picture of me relaxing in a cave due to the severe anxiety of some creature living inside. So inadequate base, but still better than being cramped in the barrel? By the way, if I were to think more, isn't it a promotion, from the barrel to the island. I wouldn't ever receive a promotion on my job even after working for a century.

So should I go mine now? Or gather woods for pickaxe? I don't know, I had only played the survival cubes game. In any sense, my main goal is to get out of here. For which I need a boat, for that I will need planks and shovels?

Commonly, I'd require wood. I can't break it without a chainsaw, can I? With bare hands?

Hoo..! Haa!

Ow!

It's hard as stone.

Obviously, it's quite unrealistic to think a tree can be chopped with bare hands. My wooden age should start but perhaps it's not time. That's why I will start my stone age! But it's quite an unrealistic picture again.

I look into all the items which just seem useless currently. I have scales of that fish which is unexpectedly sharp. I can make an axe, perhaps? How, though, should I join it with a handle?

Scratching my head, I leave it and go to the southern plains in search of food. Vegetation must have grown on this land or I am not vegan then.

I continued to explore the area where I found several irregular fruits. Did I perhaps find a devil fruit or something? Seeing the herbivorous inhabitants plucking fruit, I decided to try it myself. Surprisingly it was squishy but hard as heck when bite on. As squishy nature implies, it has flourish fluid inside.

As I did venture around, I found various kinds of fruits and inhabitants. Plain section of the forest doesn't have any hostility. Just a while later, I came across the plateau at the southern end. I climbed up and saw an island with the shape of a typical croissant. What a major discovery, I'd call it Cuaso Island.

Below in the sea, I could again take glimpses of that thrice the lengthy creature. Ah… I see a problem, I will have to deal with that sea creature or I might get attacked if I try to flee with a boat.

"How bad are you, Timmy!?" I simply ran after yelling at that creature.

I started walking to my base location but, in the midway, my eyes captured the sight of a tree flying. Two wilds were fighting with each other, and in the process they chopped down numerous trees. I hastily hide behind a rock and watch the fight. The one with the horn had a muscular body while the other one with long limbs had sharp agility and reflex.

My body trembles in fear of being revealed but I can't let the intense match between them slide. The Horn dashed at The Long Limbs but he dodged it and in response he swung it's sharp arm, slashing off the horn. The Horn before even can move, The Long Limbs slashed The Horn head off.

'looks like I have more foes than I initially thought. No-place is safe, oh scary'

Just as I was in deep thoughts, an air slash passed near me resulting in a cut on my shoulder. I step back from hiding and stand up. The Long Limbs looked at me with stern expression, not pleased with my intrusion.

I lifted my arms and said, "D-don't mind me, The Long Limbs. I was taking jog"

As if understanding my language, he dragged his prey and disappeared in the deep forest. I took a sigh of relief and quickly ripped a piece of cloth off my t-shirt to wrap it around the cut on the shoulder.

I reached back to my base in the late evening with several fruits. I put them on the ground and went to the river to drink water. I was worn out completely so I just settled down on the ground there.

At that time, the sun had sunk below the horizon and darkness occupied the sky. The moon wasn't visible and only dim light of stars were filling the surrounding. I remained in my position and looked at the sky above me. The position and structure of the constellation were different as I remember previously. As an astrophile, I can't help but admire the sky, the beauty it holds.

Just a while later, I prepared a campfire with slight knowledge of traditional methods of making fire. I placed down some spiked up stones around the tree as traps for safety and settled myself near the campfire.

It is a late realization but I am completely lonely on this journey…
