Chapter 3
Ethan stepped out of the car that had just driven into the big compound of the mansion standing in front of him. The house was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen, and he was even awed by the number of cars parked in the garage. Even though he wanted to take his time to admire the place and check out what it looked like, he wasn't so settled to do that.
"This way, please," Bryant gestured toward the entrance door and started walking toward it immediately, so Ethan followed him, counting his steps nervously. His jaw dropped when he walked into the living room which looked like another planet on its own, but he was soon distracted by the number of men in black suits queued in the living room. Something he was just noticing.
"Welcome home, master," Again, they all stood up and bowed to him just like how those people did back at the prison.
"Wait here while I go call our boss," Bryant uttered and was about to walk away when a deep baritone voice sounded along the stairs.
"I've been waiting for you for a long time. Welcome home, son," Slowly, Ethan turned in the direction of the voice, and the down part of someone welcomed him. Whoever the person was, was cladded in black shiny silky velvet trousers, and the part of his hand Ethan could see had the latest wristwatch in it.
He watched as the man descended the staircase slowly until he finally saw his face, and his jaw dropped. He froze on the spot. It was the last person he ever expected to meet in real life. The CEO of MJ groups. The most popular and successful company in the world.
Ethan blinked his eyes as he watched the man take slow and steady steps toward him, telling himself that this must be a dream. Even if he was to suddenly find his Dad, this man would be the last person to be his Dad.
"Welcome home, son. I'm glad you are here," a small smile played on the man's lips. A smile that only displayed around his lips and didn't reach his eyes. The smile lasted for split seconds as though he had forced it earlier. He then turned to Bryant and nodded, and just like that, Bryant left with the other men, not after they bowed to him.
"Please, sit," He gestured for Ethan to sit on the couch after he was seated and Ethan hesitated before he sat on the couch.
"Time is important to me, so I will straight to the point and not waste your time..." Mr. Miles Jacob paused and adjusted on the couch.
"I'm sorry for showing up like this, and I'm sorry you had to find out like this. I didn't plan it this way, but things just happen," Mr. Miles shrugged his shoulders, but Ethan couldn't still connect the dots together. There was a lot to be explained to him. A lot he was curious about.
"Who are you?" Although those people told him earlier that this man was his Dad, he could only ask to confirm it.
"Your Mom and I had a thing in the past, but I had no idea she was pregnant with you..." Mr. Miles replied to him and shrugged again.
"I'm sorry I'm just coming for you now. I just got to know about your existence lately," Mr. Miles further said, and Ethan scoffed unbelievably. His Mom had told him that his Dad died years ago while she was pregnant with him, and now someone showed up in front of him out of nowhere claiming to be his Dad?
"If you are finding it hard to believe me..." Mr. Miles paused, then brought out his phone from his pocket and pressed it for a few seconds while Ethan stared at him confusingly.
"Give me a few minutes, please," Mr. Miles spoke politely.
Minutes later, Bryant walked into the living room with a brown envelope.
"Here, boss," Bryant handed it to Mr. Miles and left immediately.
"Here is our matching DNA test, and if you still don't believe me, we could go for another one," Mr. Miles uttered as he dropped the brown envelope on the table and pushed it to his front, hoping it'd convince Ethan that he was really his Dad.
Ethan stared at him for a moment then reached for the envelope and brought out the papers inside. He was right. This man was really his Dad.
"As I said, I'm sorry for not coming for you all this while. I had no idea about your existence," Again, Mr. Miles stated, and those words pierced through Ethan's heart like a dagger. It was like an insult to him, but he tried not to get angry. Although he didn't mean to blame his Mom, but it seemed to be her fault for not telling this man about his existence for years. Maybe he would've come for him before now if he had known he existed.
"Was I a mistake to you? Was I a mistake that happened between you and Mom?" Ethan knew his question wasn't necessary, but he still asked to be sure.
"That's not why I called you here. You need to be a man and stop bothering about things like that..." Mr. Miles paused and sighed briefly.
Ethan's phone beeped, and he hesitated before he brought it out of his pocket, and his eyes widened in shock when he saw the alert of two hundred billion dollars displayed on the screen.
"I'm retiring from my company soon, so I want you to take over the business and inherit all of my properties," Mr. Miles said out of the blue moon while Ethan was still staring at the screen of his phone, trying to figure out what the text was all about.
"Hu...huh?" Ethan finally looked at him, his eyebrows raised and his eyes narrowed in shock.
For the last few months since Mr. Miles found out about the relationship between him and Ethan, he had his men follow him secretly. Although he has other children, Ethan seemed to be the only one who could manage his business without it flopping.
"I want you to be the new CEO of MJ Group," Mr. Miles further said as adjusted on his seat.
"That is a little money for your upkeep. I'm sure you must've heard about my companies around the world. My assets all sums up to thirty-nine trillion dollars, and henceforth, everything will be in your name soon as the new owner after you legally become my heir..." Mr. Miles paused and reclined on the couch.
"A mansion worth ten billion dollars is currently waiting for you. Your name needs to be legally changed to Jacobs immediately before the properties can be transferred to your name. I will have Bryant take care of that," Mr. Miles continued, but Ethan just stared wordlessly, still finding this difficult to believe. Just a few days ago, he was in the prison, feeling like he'd lost everything after he was betrayed by his wife, and here he was, becoming a billionaire in a blink of eyes. An ordinary salesman who was struggling to provide for his greedy wife, a man who could barely cloth himself, and here he was now, having two hundred billion dollars in his name and would soon become the wealthiest man in the world. He had only seen this happen in movies, and it felt like magic happening to him now...
