Chapter 2
Ethan sat on the cold floor, gazing into space as he shivered from the cold piercing through his bones. His body felt stiffened, but he knew he had to hang in there. He needed to. He couldn't just give up at this point in his life.
'You are not the father of my child' Those words have been living rent-free in his head for the past two days since he has been here, wishing that it was a dream. He wished someone would tap him to wake up and maybe tell him that it was all a nightmare.
'How did I get here? How did everything suddenly go wrong? Why did she do it?' he asked himself as he hugged his knees to his chest, but his only crime was being poor. His only crime was not being able to afford the luxurious life she wanted, but he did his best. Until two days ago, he had done everything in his power to give her all the happiness she wanted. He tried to provide for her with the little he had, and all he wanted was to have a happy life together as one big family with the kids they would have in the future, but it turned out that he had expected much from her.
Just three years ago, he was walking down the aisle with this same woman, holding hands with her and smiling because he thought he had found his missing rib, he was ready to spend the rest of his life with her, but it turned out that he made the biggest mistake of his life. He should've known this earlier.
Lost in thoughts, the sound of the bang on the bar gate made him jerk, his heart skipped a beat when he raised his head and found one of the cops standing outside the gate.
"You have a visitor," Ethan's face dilated in shock when the cop said that, and he could've sworn that the man was talking to another person if he wasn't alone inside the prison.
"A vi...sitor?" His voice quivered as he managed to stand up to his feet, but his legs shook and he staggered back until he crashed against the wall which was just a few inches from him earlier. His legs felt weak and could barely carry him. After sitting on the cold floor for hours, he couldn't have expected less, right?
He watched as the cop unlocked the padlock and soon the bar gate was opened for him to go outside, but he hesitated. Could it be that disgusting woman? He thought to himself. She was the last person he wanted to see, so it better not be her.
Regardless, he dragged his feet out of the prison and followed the cop outside.
"Here is your visitor," Ethan watched the man in a suit who was seated on the long bench in the visiting room, and he raised his eyebrows confusingly.
"Oh, you're here?" The man who was in his late thirties uttered as he stood up and faced Ethan, a wide smile on his face, revealing his perfect dentition. From his silky hair, and his glowy skin, to the suit he was wearing. Everything screamed wealth, so he asked himself if this person was really here for him. It was confusing knowing that he had never set his eyes on this man all his life.
"Who...are you?" He asked, breaking between his questions while trying to recall if he had seen this man before but he couldn't recollect any memories of them together, so he gave up.
"Please wait here for me while I go talk to the inspector," The mysterious man said to Ethan and left for the inspector's office, while Ethan was left here asking what was going on.
A few minutes later, the man walked back into the visiting room with the usual warm smile on his face.
"We can leave now, Master," Ethan's jaw dropped as the man bowed to him. For a moment, he thought it was a dream, but that was until he pinched the skin of his thighs and it hurts, which only meant that this was a reality.
"Who are you?" Again, he asked, even more confused about what was happening.
"This way, Master," The man said instead and proceeded toward the exit door, and at this point, Ethan was left with no choice but to follow him, hoping to find out soon what was happening at that moment.
He followed the man outside but stopped on his track at the sight that welcomed him. Five men in suits bowed to him as soon as he got outside.
"Welcome, Master," His jaw dropped as he turned to look at the man who had come to get him earlier.
"Who are you people?" He asked as he stepped back. He thought he had seen it all, but it was starting to seem to him that his day was full of surprises yet to be unfolded.
"My name is Bryant, your assistant. Your Father, our master asked us to bring you home, Master," The man uttered as he went to stand with the group of people that were standing in front of a black limousine car, and he froze on the spot.
"Shall we?" He was still trying to process what Bryant just said when his voice sounded through his ear again, and he raised his gaze to find him holding the door open for him, waiting for him to hop inside the car so they could leave for wherever they were going, but Ethan couldn't move his legs. Everything was still confusing and he needed someone to explain to him what in the world was happening. Who is his father? Who are these people? Did Emily send them to take him out of the prison and kill him? Are they there to abduct him? Those questions paraded his mind as he stared at them wordlessly, not knowing whether to truth them or not...
