Lola was already fast asleep and curled up like a kitten in Richmond's arms when the deafening sound of the explosion disrupted the serenity of the night, causing both lovers to jerk up in panic.
"What was that!" Lola half screamed, wrapping her arms around Richmond, while her panicked eyes darted around the room.
"I have no idea," Richmond replied, stroking her back. "But you don't have to be scared. I'm here to protect you. Let me call Beda."
"Okay." Lola nodded her head.
Richmond was about to pick up his phone when a knock on the door interrupted him.
"My love, give me a second." Richmond kissed her on the forehead and rolled out of the bed. He quickly wore his shorts and a night robe.
Then he carefully pulled out a silver and black pistol from his bedside drawer, hiding it from Lola's frantic gaze and walked to the door.
"Beda!" Richmond called out, as he held onto the doorknob, positioning himself away from danger.
