Lola felt hurt by Prince Tristan's gesture. She turned her head sideways in search of Richmond while trying hard to regulate her breathing.
Richmond was seated in the front row with other high-ranking guests. He was also looking worried. But when their eyes locked momentarily, he gave her a reassuring smile.
Richmond could see what was happening but could barely hear what had been said. He could tell Lola was unhappy due to whatever the overly dressed, arrogant-looking, mature lady said to her. He even saw through the masked smile of the infamous crown prince, whom the ambassador believed was as evil and power-drunk as his father.
Shifting his gaze to Lola's elegant-looking family, Richmond couldn't help but wonder who else was involved in the plot that killed Lola's parents. He desperately needed to know those who were her friends in the family and those who were her foes. But most importantly he needed to ensure Lola was safe and happy.
