Leah stared at the locked door in silence. The stinging pain from her wound enraging her further. Her eyes trailed to the family photo on the wall next to the door, there were so many faces in the frame and yet none of them spoke up against her father's abuse.
She rose from the ground, took a piece of cloth and covered up the picture. She felt that everyone's smile in the photo was mocking her. Leah retrieved a book from her bookshelf and propped up a pillow on the bed to read. Not giving any attention to her wound or tending to it.
Leah felt a false sense of safety in the pages of her novel. The beautiful words painted a sweet fairytale where happy endings existed. She read a transmigration novel about a girl who escapes the cruelty of her life when she dies and her soul wakes up in a new body in a magical realm, where she falls on love with the prince and ends up rulling the kingdom, happily ever after.
