While Malacai was thinking about this, Cassius ignored the explosion and went directly to Velvet and Serpent.
His jaw split open into four. Making him look like a weird monster.
When the blood prison exploded, Velvet and Serpent were still in a deadlock. Serpent's armor didn't allow Velvet to penetrate. But he had already made some progress because he kept scratching the same area over and over again.
Unfortunately, he didn't have enough time. Cassius came.

His stinger pierced Velvet with ease, while it had some problems doing it to Serpent's armor.
The Serpent used the opportunity to move, putting some distance between them. But Cassius didn't let him.
After just moving one step, Cassius' other hand gripped his head. Its claw dug into its carapace, then toward his eyes, the only fragile part of Serpent's body.
Serpent's legs dangled in the air as Cassius raised him.
