Chapter 17 - Chapter 17

Lu Yanzhou immediately saw Shi Liao Liao standing outside, wearing light blue pajamas with soft, drooping hair.

Unlike her usual formal attire, she looked even thinner in her pajamas, and she seemed surprised by his sudden door opening.

Her eyes widened slightly, and she appeared somewhat helpless, exuding an imperceptible sense of vulnerability.

"What are you doing here?"

Lu Yanzhou's tea-brown eyes carried a hint of coldness, which reminded Shi Liao Liao of their first meeting when he had also looked at her with such scrutinizing eyes.

Shi Liao Liao pointed to the ground.

"I... came to deliver this."

Lu Yanzhou followed her finger and looked down.

A bundle of glow sticks wrapped in tape lay on the floor, not very noticeable due to the hallway lights being on.

Lu Yanzhou's expression showed a slight daze.

Seizing the opportunity, Shi Liao Liao explained, "I was afraid of another unexpected power outage. If you don't have time to light a candle, you can put it by your bedside."

Lu Yanzhou slowly bent down and picked up the bundle of colorful glow sticks, running his fingers over the uneven folds of the tape.

His voice was somewhat low:

"Just for this?"

Shi Liao Liao nodded.

[Of course, if you're willing to return the original bundle to me, that would be great.]

Damn it, she didn't have the courage to ask for it back at that time.

As a result, this young master didn't take the initiative to return it to her.

Shi Liao Liao even wondered if he had casually thrown it in that shabby room.

Thinking about the bundle of glow sticks that had already been placed in the drawer of the bedside table with unknown intentions, Lu Yanzhou tightened his grip on the new bundle.

"Thank you, I'll take note of it."

His smile was appropriate, and his face shimmered in the light, looking really handsome.

Then he closed the door again.

Shi Liao Liao stood in place, staring at the wooden door in front of her.

Then, she showed a bewildered expression on her face, turned around, and ran back to her own room.

The first thing she did when she returned to her room was to lock the door with a "click" sound.

Then, she dashed to her mirror and observed her own face.

"Oh my goodness, I look so good. Could it be that one day Lu Yanzhou will lose control and take me under his wing?!"

Shi Liao Liao covered her chest in fear.

The words she had heard just now had scared her to the point where she couldn't even think straight.

"No, I can't stay here for another second. Who is the female lead after all? Can Gu Xuezhao reveal her gender tomorrow so that I can see Lu Yanzhou's reaction? Ah!!"

Maru: [...]

What are you afraid of? I think Lu Yanzhou should be afraid of your talent for breaking sentences!

[If you really want to know, why not play matchmaker and bring the two of them together?]

Maru whispered temptingly.

Shi Liao Liao rolled her eyes.

"Playing matchmaker for their fate will bring disaster upon me. It's better if tonight I quietly sneak into Lu Yanzhou's room and whisper 'Gu Xuezhao is a woman' in his ear a hundred times."

Maru: Just mute yourself.

Meanwhile, Lu Yanzhou...

"I didn't hear any inner thoughts."

In other words, Shi Liao Liao really just came to deliver this thing to him.

Looking at the glow stick in his hand, Lu Yanzhou remembered the one he had taken from the drawer.

He reached for his phone, ignoring Yang Qingzhou's frantic knocking and questioning about whether he hung up because he had another dog.

He opened Shi Liao Liao's chat window and saw her message.

The coldness in Lu Yanzhou's eyes dissipated, and he inexplicably thought of the pair of feet he had glimpsed when he accidentally picked up the glow stick.

They were small, maybe size 37, with round toes and nails painted in a pink shade.

They didn't look like a man's feet.

Realizing what he was thinking, Lu Yanzhou's movements stiffened.

"What am I thinking..."

That is a man.

He raised his hand and ran his fingers through his hair, feeling annoyed in his tea-brown eyes.

Then, with one hand typing on the keyboard, he replied to Shi Liao Liao's message.

Lu: It doesn't matter.

Lu: Even if it's not you, someone else will tell him.

After that, he transferred a thousand yuan.

The transfer message specifically stated "Compensation for the glow stick."

Shi Liao Liao, who had been contemplating how to quickly leave within a week, jumped up from the bed upon hearing the transfer notification.

She instantly smiled when she saw the words "Compensation for the glow stick," completely forgetting her previous worries.

Later, she felt that this expression was too obsequious and didn't quite match her aloof image, so she quickly retracted it and replied, "It's what I should do."

Lu Yanzhou, who witnessed her series of actions, curled his lips and placed his phone on the bedside table.

He turned off the main light in the room, leaving only a small bedside lamp, and then lay down on the bed, falling into a deep sleep.

The next morning, when Lu Yanzhou came downstairs, Shi Liao had already prepared breakfast and was waiting for him, dressed neatly.

Looking at the steaming hot food on the table, he nodded and said, "Thank you for your hard work."

Shi Liao Liao respectfully lowered her head.

[Not hard work, just a miserable life.]

Lu Yanzhou: I knew it.

As they sat down to eat, he picked a crab dumpling first, poked the skin open, took a sip of the soup, and was pleasantly surprised.

The taste was unexpectedly good.

Seeing the expectant look in Shi Liao's eyes beside him, Lu Yanzhou didn't hesitate to give her praise.

"The taste is good."

A hint of a smile appeared in Shi Liao Liao's eyes, and even her lips curved up, forming a smiling face that bathed in the morning light pouring in through the blinds, like a flower blooming in the early morning.

"That's good. It's not in vain that I set an alarm and specially ordered takeout."

*Burp...*

"That was close. I almost burped. Hehe."

Lu Yanzhou: "..."

Lu Tingfeng must have had his reasons for sending her to him.

Right?

Having an A-grade employer by your side has its benefits.

For example, while other students wake up early, hastily gather their books, and rush across half the campus to find their classrooms, Shi Liao Liao drives a silver sports car, carrying Lu Yanzhou to class.

"Do you still remember my class schedule?" Lu Yanzhou asks after getting out of the car, with the gaze of surrounding students upon them.

He looks down at Shi Liao Liao.

Shi Liao Liao nods. "I've memorized it."

Lu Yanzhou nods.

"After class, wait for me here," he says.

Shi Liao Liao replies, "Okay."

Satisfied, Lu Yanzhou turns around and walks towards a few students wearing A-grade badges on their chests, as if they were waiting for him.

With her own books in hand, Shi Liao Liao lifts her feet and walks towards a nearby building.

She still has to cross four buildings to reach her own classroom.

As she enters the classroom, Shi Liao Liao notices that the previously not-so-quiet room falls completely silent upon her arrival.

Shi Liao Liao teases Maru: [Did you see that? On the first day of class, I've become a famous person in the academy.]

Maru pauses and can't help but remind her: [You should turn around and see who's standing behind you.]

Shi Liao Liao quickly turns around.

Her gaze slowly lowers and meets a face that is much more delicate than that of a male student.

Shi Liao Liao furrows her brows.

She remembers that the second-year teaching building is not here.

Gu Xuezhaosu lowered her gaze, concealing the resentment in her eyes, and showed a clear smile to Shi Liao Liao.

"I repeated a grade," she said.

She appeared relaxed, but her act was too obvious. Anyone could see through her facade of trying to appear strong.

Shi Liao Liao nodded. "Congratulations." It's a good thing to spend an extra year studying, away from the adult world.

Gu Xuezhaosu: "..."

Shi Liao Liao shouldn't have said that.

After saying those words, Gu Xuezhaosu, who had found a corner to sit in and just put down her book, squeezed her way over and sat next to Shi Liao.

But Shi Liao Liao didn't say much.

After all, the seat wasn't hers to claim.

However, it was clear that not everyone felt the same way.

When a student with red hair, lip piercing, and a handsome face but a rebellious aura casually walked over, slammed his book onto the table, and arrogantly demanded to buy the seat, Gu Xuezhaosu trembled in anger.

It's another one of these people... people who easily trample on their own dignity with money!!

"I'd rather die than give it to you!"

Her eyes gleamed with anger as she glared fiercely at the boy in front of her, her face filled with stubbornness and defiance.

Little did she know that after being rejected, the boy didn't say much.

He didn't even spare another glance at Gu Xuezhaosu.

Instead, he shifted his gaze to Shi Liao sitting beside her.

Shi Liao Liao calmly returned his gaze. "How much are you offering?"

The boy raised an eyebrow. "100,000?"

Without hesitation, Shi Liao Liao stood up and took her book to leave.

"Please."

The servant has withdrawn, and this withdrawal is for a lifetime.
