Trisha was taken aback. "What are you talking about?" she asked.
"You're not the one who has to deal with the mayor every day," Brian explained. "You don't have to put up with his temper tantrums or his unreasonable demands. You're not the one who has to face the consequences if things don't go according to plan. You're not the one who has to explain to their family why they don't have a job anymore."
Trisha was silent.
"That's right," Brian said, a note of bitterness creeping into his voice. "I've got a family, too, you know. I've got a wife and kids to take care of, and they're depending on me to keep this job. So yeah, maybe I'm a little stressed out and maybe I'm not doing the best job, but I'm doing the best I can. And if that's not good enough for the mayor, then he can fire me."
