Trisha couldn't stop thinking about her friends, wondering if they had noticed her missing, and whether they were out there searching for her. She knew it was futile to think that way, but she couldn't help it.
She tried to distract herself by thinking about how they would get out of this mess, but it was no use. Every scenario she played out in her head ended with them being buried alive, or worse.
Dashiell seemed to sense her despair as he tightened his grip around her, his voice soft. "We're gonna get out of here, Trisha," he said. "Don't give up hope."
Trisha remained silent.
"Hey, look at me," Dashiell added, gently taking her chin in his hand.
She looked up at him, the faint glow of her phone's screen casting a soft light across his face.
"They'll be looking for us," Dashiell said, his voice reassuring. "And once they find us, I'll make sure you're okay. I promise."
Trisha nodded, a lump forming in her throat.
