Chapter 29 - Magecraft III

This was the second miracle day since arriving in this town.

I was under the floor right beside the God Stone in the temple.

Not that I enjoy staying in such a dusty place, and I certainly didn't start living here. There's a reason.

You'll understand the reason soon enough, so I'll omit explaining it for now. But first, there's one thing.

For some reason, the blindfolded girl was here with me.

"Hey, you..."

"Ehehe, how exciting!"

We'd snuck into the temple early morning and hid under the floor.

With nothing to do until nightfall, I was sleeping until waking up to this situation somehow.

The floorboard I'd carefully pried open had almost no depth, just enough tatami mat space for one, making it quite cramped.

As a result, the blindfolded girl clung to me.

She must've also pried up the boards to get in, but how without me noticing? No, why didn't I notice?

But it's too late for regrets now.

With the outside dark and people's presences around the temple, the miracle was about to begin.

Taking advantage of my inability to move or speak, she kept sliding her body against mine. Oh, more chest than expected.

I glared at her as the dance started and the surroundings grew quiet.

All I could hear was the sound of Claire's footsteps on the floor above.

I watched the situation through the small hole I'd opened, right before me. Oh? This is!

Underwear was dancing.

Seeing underwear dance is perhaps a once in decades occurrence in Japan, but since coming to this world, I strangely keep witnessing dancing underwear.

What's this, she was wearing underwear? While pondering pointless things, I gazed at the sublime scene unfolding.

Noticing my distraction, the blindfolded girl pinched my cheek, earning a glare.

Don't interfere. This is necessary. A small matter preceding a big job. My motivational fuel before the major task ahead. I tried conveying through my eyes.

The dance ended amidst all that, and it was time for Claire to channel magic into the God Stone, my cue to make a move.

Within arm's reach. I sent magic into the God Stone together with Claire.

Eyes closed, she didn't notice me. Things went as planned so far. But... Was the output a bit weak?

The next moment, I sensed another stream of magic flowing into the God Stone.

I turned to the source - the blindfolded girl smiling smugly.

I clicked my tongue internally.

She was the last one I wanted to rely on, but... I guess she's a big help this time.

Since my magic capacity isn't exceptionally high.

That's right, my magic capacity isn't all that high.

It should be above average, but compared to geniuses like Melt and Roots, not even worth mentioning.

So where was all that magic when fighting the demons?

Obviously from me. No riddles here. There's a trick.

And that is multidrop.

Most have probably never even heard the term, which is only natural.

It's a technology only used in very specific fields, never emerging in daily life.

After creating magic macros, I realized my magic capacity was too low.

To give an analogy, while I could sprint a hundred meters in five seconds, the actual distance I could sprint was fifty meters at best.

I had this useful magic, so I desperately wanted to do something about my capacity.

Naturally, I turned to my own knowledge.

For magic capacity, memory immediately came to mind.

I couldn't think of anything better for increasing capacity.

As I mentioned before, computers process all information through combinations of 0s and 1s. And memory is no exception, storing information through 0 and 1 combinations.

So how does it store information?

Memory contains countless miniature compartments called cells.

To grasp how minute they are, a cell is roughly only the size of a fingertip, yet packed densely in unfathomable quantities inside memory you can barely see.

There are differences depending on memory type, but I'll omit the finer details here.

The technology I referenced distinguished 0s and 1s by whether an electron was present in a cell or not.

I won't delve deeper here.

If I start explaining how those electrons are controlled - things like electron polarity and bonding - I'd be entering scientific territory, since that tech utilizes such principles to achieve it in reality.

Anyway, 0 or 1 was determined by the cell containing an electron or not, at least in the past.

An electron being present or absent - in other words, a voltage differential. But what if I could discern that difference even more precisely?

An example. Until now, 0V versus 30V was judged as 0 or 1. Add decision thresholds at 10V and 20V to judge 0V, 10V, 20V, and 30V instead.

It's arbitrary, but in binary this becomes:

0V = 00, 10V = 01, 20V = 10, 30V = 11

To rephrase, by creating and detecting states of electrons in a cell being absent, slightly present, quite present, fully present, twice as much information can be stored compared to the binary absent or present state per cell.

I utilized this same technique.

Fine-tuned magic control is normally impossible, but I have Mage Sight and Magic Macros.

The three days until heading to that forest where I fought the demons were spent in near sleepless creation of that magic.

Cheaty? But don't get the wrong idea. Magic using this technique has a flaw.

Same goes for reality. No way something like this comes without demerits.

Precisely determining and controlling electron quantities puts load on the memory itself.

In my case, that's my body.

I don't know where magic originates, but the cells comprising me - my individual cells - likely generate magic ultimately.

It's not absorbed externally.

The end result is that my inherent capacity didn't increase fundamentally - I'm just using my existing capacity more efficiently.

Like memory bearing load, my body also strains.

This is a double-edged sword. Twofold was still doable against the demons.

What would happen if I pushed to four, eight times?

Rather not find out.

That's the gist of why my capacity itself isn't actually that high.

For simply channeling magic like now, rather than crafting it, I can only output my innate amount.

Claire, plus the blindfolded girl and I, poured our magic into the God Stone in one go.

In an instant, the stone emitted light incomparable to the previous miracle day.

The miracle of God had occurred—
