The mafia was old. Older than some religions in fact. Not many criminal organizations could say that they had been around for centuries.
But the mafia had been around for centuries and was still going strong. All of that having to do with the syndicate's ability to not only adapt and survive. But also with the mafia's ability to break apart and form different power structures, all branches from the same tree, sharing roots no matter the country or continent.
But every once in a while, as it happened in all other organizations, there were often clashes, disagreements. It did not matter how good, or how bad of a leader you were, there were bound to be people who either agreed with you, or who wanted you gone as soon as yesterday.
