Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Reward

As I faced golems after golems, Neph had my back in case some managed to get past me and land a deadly blow to me from the back.

It felt like eternity, slash after slash, yet their numbers didn't diminish, instead, it grew. The golems weren't strong, they were weak, but their numbers were large.

Two minutes, two short minutes yet at this moment, it felt like forever.

We just had to survive, for two minutes.

My chest heaved up and down, sweat dripped from my forehead. The whole room was split into two, on one side was me and Neph, on the other was the stone golems who continued to rise from the dead.

Slowly, I was being pushed back, there were just too many of them, even with Neph's help, it was still very dangerous.

There was probably about 50 or more golems now, far more than I could handle, but with Neph's help, it became somewhat bearable, still, we were being pushed back by the numbers. I had made sure not to let any golems get past me, I had to so that Neph won't be in danger and she'll be able to help me from the back.

Swiiinng!

I ignored the fatigue building up and continued to slash and slash and slash.

I was determined to not let any get past me. The sword crackled and hissed with lightning, soon it was followed by a ferocious thunder clap.

Clap after clap sounded, the rate at which I destroyed golems increased, I started to gain back my standing but it was not for long. The more my pace quickened,  the more mana I expended, still, two minutes should be around the corner, reserving my mana was not a priority anymore.

My slashes were swift, sharp and deadly, with each swing I threw, heads fell. Golems disintegrated one after another.

But with their increasing number, it was unavoidable for me to get hit once or twice, my shoulder was grazed, my abdomen was punched. Still, with willpower, I stood back up and destroyed those that dared to take a step forward and pass me.

As I attacked, Neph was not idle, if it was not for her, my fight against these cockroaches would have been much more troublesome and difficult.

Water bullets flew after another. They were fast and deadly. Fortunately, Neph was great at aiming these things, if not, the possibility of me getting jumped would be high.

With those many enemies, you wouldn't really care who was accidentaly hit — enemy or ally, as long as you finish the job, but Neph wasn't like that.

She had my back and I was her shield. She was my bow, and I was the sword.

Two minutes passed.

I fell to my knees, I dispersed the lightning sword spell. My hands were shaking, my whole body was sore and heavy, my face was pale, my forehead glistened with sweat. The fight, was an ardorous one till the end.

I sighed, the reward better be worth it. After all, I killed about 200 plus or so golems, my mana was all but gone, in the last moments, I burst out and used every bit of mana I had to destroy as many as I could before the time ended.

My frustration was let out at that moment.

Neph also killed a considerable amount, she approached me, looking all tired and weak. I realized that a spirit had quite the large mana capacity as even at the near end of the fight, she was still able to shoot out water bullets.

Perks of being a spirit I guess.

Anyway, I was really thankful that I remodeled the lightning blade to the new and improved, lightning sword. Without the lightning sword, I wouldn't even know if I would have come out alive in that fight.

I couldn't even use thunder arrows as they are long range attacks and need coordinated concentration to use, I couldn't use them whilst attacking golems of many numbers. at the same time.

The lightning snake was also a no, it was good at one on one battles but a fight that big? It would be difficult to control.

The lightning sword saved my life, that was for sure.

Anyway, this was insane for a first trial. It was crazy difficult, if it were any other mage with the same level as I am taking on the same trial, they probably wouldn't have lasted a minute.

I sighed, enough of that.

Now, it's time for the rewards...

Timingly enough, the monotonous voice echoed in my head, "The trialist have killed 314 golems and successfully lasted two minutes, equivalent reward is being calculated."

"In the mean time, the trialist should get ready for the second trial." My eyes widened.

What the fck you mean second trial?

I just finished the 1st one just now, and you're already talking about the second trial, what about a fcking rest to replenish my strength hah!?

"The second trial will begin as soon as the trialist wishes." Hearing that part, I sighed, still, I held a slight grudge for worrying me like that.

"Your rewards for the first trial is ready..."
