Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Inspiration

Anyway, I opted to restore my mana to the utmost peak so that I would be prepared for any kind of situation that I would find myself in.

Having a lack of mana is dangerous after all, well, thankfully I had some mana left albeit very small when I was strangled by the seaweeds or whatever it was.

Time passed maybe an hour or two, my mana was finally fully restored. I stood up and went towards the corpses of the two wild beasts.

Using the lightning blade spell, I took out the mana shard from the beasts. It was with great effort that I managed to take it out considering that they had the defenses of Tier-2 wild beasts, it was even more so for the snake that had formidable scales.

Still, in the end, I obtained two tier-2 mana shards.

All those risks and pain were not for naught. With these two mana shards, I may just reach tier-2 as a novice mage and then some, within probably no more than a week.

I looked around with the two shards in my hand, I contemplated whether I should go back to my cave or just stay here and make it my new base. Still, a lingering fear of other beasts invading here now that the predator snake was dead made me hesitant. Also, there was still that mysterious creature in the pond water, I didn't know what it was but it was clear that it was dangerous.

Thankfully it seemed to be incapable of leaving the waters so I would be safe if I just stayed relatively far from it.

In the end, I decided to stay here for the night. It was probably already dark outside making it dangerous to traverse. It would be much safer here than out there at the moment.

There was light here so...that was something.

Feeling a bit hungry, I gazed at the bull in the maws of the dead snake. I wanted to rip some meat out of it and cook it to satiate my hunger but the thought that it was poisoned scared me, after all, it was bitten by the snake and its venom probably spread throughout its body.

I could only endure.

Looking at the massive snake, I could hardly believe that I managed to kill it, though, through underhanded means.

When I remembered the fight earlier between the bull and the snake. I shivered, the snake was pretty terrifying, it was deadly, swift, and precise. It was a foe I wouldn't want to fight.

Its movement was fluid — gliding through the grass like a fish in water.

Remembering all these things, my eyes shone with inspiration. It reminded me of my element in a way — deadly, precise, and swift.

A spell was conjuring in my mind. After a few more thoughts of how I was going to go through this, I attempted to try it.

A vague shape formed in my mind, I tried bringing it to life but all I did was form a poorly made, small, and rough worm instead of a snake that quickly dissipated within a second.

It was hard, very hard. The shape and image in my mind should not simply be based on outlook. It should contain within it details and precise structural design.

What was I missing?

I tried a couple more times but to no avail. I sighed finally and stood, I approached the snake corpse in the hope that I would get enlightened.

After staring at it for a few minutes, I attempted once again but it ended up a failure.

However, despite all these, I was determined to create this spell. I wanted to create a spell that would go along well with my element.

But most of all, it was cool. Just imagine a serpent made out of lightning, how cool would that be? Also, I felt like this spell would do me great in the future, it would no doubt be a powerful spell in my arsenal.

It would also be very versatile with probably many uses. So yes, I was very determined to create it.

I studied the corpse of the snake some more, closing in on it and even touching its scales. The scales were rock-hard telling me the that snake had great defenses. I could feel it in my fingertips, beautifully shaped and solid.

I incorporated this sensation into my mind and once again, tried an attempt to create the spell. As expected, I failed though praises were deserved as I made some progress.

Days like this passed in this cave.

Initially, I was reluctant to stay in this cave but I outgrew it. No beasts would probably invade this cave until probably around a week or two.

They wouldn't notice that the snake was dead in just that short amount of time of absence.
