Chapter 47 - Her Mother's Daughter

The sound of Rhea's footsteps echoed as she sprinted down the hallways of Holloway Palace, made more impressive because she was wearing heels.

Apollonia's loud grumbling was not far behind as she, Calida, and Poppy tried to keep up, but the blue-eyed woman refused to slow down.

All she could think about was how long her mother had been kept waiting by the protocols of the Palace, and how much of her temper she would have to soothe, to bring as much calm as her mother was capable of giving.

The communications room was in a separate building from her and the others' living quarters, a large space filled with telephones and comfortable chairs to lounge in while one took their calls. None but the Duke was privileged to have a phone so close by.

At the time of her arrival, there were a few courtesans and members of the Palace staff taking calls, and she was forced to wait for Poppy and the others to catch up, to be directed to the right phone.
