Chapter 1 - Searching on...

The smell of sweetened air was so potent throughout the San Saracha Desert. Its cinnamon sands shifted gracefully in the wind as the sun shined down upon the landscape of spice and crystallized sugar.

The only other living being besides the creeping frosted cacti and slithering slinks, was a humanoid muffin person with poofy hair that had dripping creators and crevices like that of a blueberry muffin. She wore a white bishop-sleeved blouse and violet blue corset vest with shorts, a pair of white stockings and tall matching boots.

She looked around silently. Like she was searching for something. It seemed as though she knew exactly where she needed to be when she reached a small mound, nearby.

She kneeled down and began digging through the cinnamon sands. It didn't take too long for her to find something shocking, though her expression didn't show it. It was a hand. Two skeletal hands were clenching onto to something, tightly.

Whatever it was the hands were grasping it tightly as if they died fighting over it. Muffin carefully unfurled the stiff appendages. It wasn't that difficult since the bones were extremely brittle.

After prying the fingers apart from the object the humanoid took a shocked inhale. The object that the two deceased were clutching onto, what were likely fighting over was...

A cookie. A seemingly normal looking chocolate chip cookie.

She dusted away the sugary dust and picked up the half eaten treat. It didn't appear to be anything spectacular. Nothing magical. Nothing unholy. Just a simple chocolate chip cookie. She stood up and looked around silently. Somthing wasn't right. Her large blue and violet eyes scanned the landscape thoroughly. The light around her pupils glowed as her brows scrunched in disgust. There were other mounds beyond the one she found. As the sands were blown about various decayed faces were revealed underneath. Limbs began peeking out. Hundreds of dead bodies littered the desert all in various clothing, in various states of dress, all in various states of decomposition. They had all died months ago, some sooner than others.

Each corpse was laid over another or had their rotting clutches around each other. They must've torn each other apart. Fighting each other like animals. Some even looked like they died crawling, their organs and entrails picked clean by slinkers and other scavengers. They were all reaching toward the same place. Toward the two that had the cookie. Did they...?

No. They couldn't have. Why would they? Over this? Muffin's mental analysis was an absurd one but it somehow made sense. She narrowed her expressionless eyes at the array of death before her. It was astonishing but she showed no emotion. She looked at the horrid scene then back at the cookie with only one question in mind.

What had happened here?

She then crushed the treat in her hand letting the crumbles fall away with the wind. The vast land felt empty. The only thing that could be seen beyond the massacre was mountains and the sun. The only thing that existed was mutiny and disdain. Muffin huffed out a determined breath as she carefully began walking through the mass of entangled broken bodies.

She walked over every limb, skull and decaying, empty ribcage with grace and respect. Something unspeakable happened to these people and she had a hunch of who was responsible. 'It's already starting.' She thought. She knew what was coming and she had to stop it soon. As she walked someone suddenly appeared behind the humanoid as she walked off. A being with bowed legs, that ended in sharp three toed feet, in black tights and had a swishing spiked tail.

"You know there's no point in stopping them." The newcomer said.

She spoke with a latin accent, which was common for the area. With her green skin and appeared both reptilian and vampiric with her large double colored, orange and blue eyes and narrowed pupils, shaded under a large orange Sombrero. She stood there calmly among the dead sporting a long festive blouse that matched her hat, with firey red flare sleeves and a side ruffle draped around her right hip.

Muffin only looked back defiantly in silence. She clenched her fist. The mysterious creature stood upon one of the bodies aways from Muffin. A direct opposition to the lone desert lady's courtesy to the deceased.

"It's only a matter of time now, chica." She said in a matter-of-fact tone before swiftly dodging an golden arrow that had been launched at her by Muffin, who was aiming a crossbow. The San Saracha resident was poised behind the humanoid, her tail raised in a striking position like a scorpion.

She wore an almost amused grin on her jagged-toothed lips. She knew that arrow could've greatly harmed a creature like her. It was quite thrilling.

"You're wasting your time, Muffin. She's made her way through my lands and Several others already. Do you really think you'll stand a chance with only a mere drop of holy power?" She questioned seriously, wanting an honest answer. The humanoid remains quiet as she keeps her determined glowing gaze fixed on the other being. Neither of them were willing to back down.

The reptilian creature stood up again as she kept her eye on the foolish lady. What was she trying to accomplish?

So much darkness was raising all around. Nations turning on one another, making secret alliances with third party enemies. Ravaging lands and creating chaos. Some were even using mystical persuasion with the help of creatures from beyond the veil.

Even the vampiric creature herself has made alliances with otherworldly beings in order to keep her domain flourishing.

The muffin being turned forward again and continued on. The reptilian goblin lady just chuckled bitterly. She seemed to almost pity the stubborn girl.

It was only the beginning of something terrible, something that would drastically change the world for the worst. What hope did Muffin have to stop it?

"Hm. Do as you wish chica. Just make sure you don't die." The creature said before disappearing from view.

Muffin kept going. She would stop this madness, no matter what.
