Oliva had trained for years. Decades even to the point that dancing was her whole world. She's fasted, practiced until she could feel the burning sensation of blistered on the bottom of her feet and ignored everyone who's tried everything in her power to have her take a break. It wasn't until later that she understood why.
----
Tears fell down her face and fear crossed across the young girls face as she gripped her ankles. Dreadful thoughts crossed across her mind; she was only months away from the biggest contest of her life, she couldn't miss it. She could feel a bruise forming on the side of her ribs and winced in pain but all she could think about was her legs. She could ignore the pain, the headaches and the way her body had burning desire for sleep. She could ignore all of that like she has been doing for months but not this. Anything but this was what she hoped for more than anything.
Oliva was known for having several talents like acting and singing but dancing had always come at the top of her list. It was the one part of her she loved and respected. If anything, Oliva could dance in circles and ignore everything around her but nothing else could give her the same satisfaction.
Dancing was Oliva's gateway to her memories. Long and loving memories of her older brother before he went missing. Memories of the two of them laughing and dancing at night underneath the warm summer drizzle. The fact that he's been missing for six years had never escaped her mind and had been a constant reminder as she looked at her parents. Her family who had lived miles apart from each other.
"My legs!" Oliva cried out in pain with fear and agony written on her face. Her adrenalin helped with the pain to a point but not totally. She could still see it. The possible fear of never being able to dance again.
"Oliva!" her best friend Claire, slid beside her as their dance instructor arrived at the scene with their phone to their ear.
"Yes! Please hurry!" The teacher shouted into the phone "someone grab me something stiff"
"Here you go" George, Oliva's dance partner, said handing the instructor a towel.
The instructor wrapped Oliva's leg as best as she could but Oliva flenched at the pain. If she had even wiggled her toes for a second pain would shoot through her whole body.
The ambulance had soon arrived to the scene, taking the young girl.
"What's your name?" The EMT asked Oliva as the got her into the vehicle.
"Oliva Cooper"
"Age?"
"17"
"How bad is your pain?"
"9"
Pain continued to shoot through her foot, as she bit on her lip.
