Chapter 26 - Chapter 26 - Partners

Creato talked for over an hour.

Basically, he was talking, Middendorffi was listening, Creato also did not care, and Miscellaneous said a lot; this, more than an hour of words, maybe more than the police say altogether. Initially, the policeman who accompanied him through the process was amazed, exclamatory, and then numb at the end. He looked at the back of Middendorffi, who was sitting in front of him, and silently sighed in his heart that this young man could really sit still. After so long, Middendorffi did not even change his sitting posture or interrupt Creato's speech; this is simply a perfect "tree hole".

The police even suspected that Middendorffi might have been lost in thought for a while. Occasionally, when the Creator asked for his opinion, he just returned "I know" and "Yes." Creato did not pursue it and continued to talk. The police needed help understanding the point of Creato asking Middendorffi to come and listen to him. He could have asked someone else if he just wanted to agree with him.

The meeting ended with the Creator's "personal talk show". When it was time for Middendorffi to leave, Creato asked him, "Can I still talk to you?"

Middendorffi blandly replied, "You apply by the book, and I'll get paid to do it."

The policeman following him almost laughed out loud.

Creato didn't mind Middendorffi's attitude and laughed a little, "If I'm successful in being hypnotised afterwards, I won't need to find you. If I fail in forgetting ... only you can understand me."

Middendorffi does not reply to him with this pretence of sentimental words, only saying, "If you look for me to say again, no more saying her name, choose a code name. It doesn't matter to me, don't let anyone else receive this information with high intensity."

This talks about the police who came in together and the staff behind the surveillance. The creator agrees, and the police are touched to hear it.

When he came out, he met up with Eli, who looked at Middendorffi, still on cloud nine, and asked, "How'd it go?"

"Just fine." Middendorffi thought for a moment and summarised, "It's that he loves Suzanne and wants her all to himself and doesn't want any more contact with her, and he hates Suzanne because she's no longer under his complete control, and she does what she wants and causes trouble. By going against Suzanne, he's fighting for dominance, so he'd rather have the two of them face each other alone and just spend time."

The cop who followed him said, "That's what it means; it sums it up accurately, and together, you haven't gone off the deep end!

Eli commented coldly and sharply, "That's something that took him so long to crap out?"

"He tried to convince me that he was right verbally." Middendorffi said, "He went into a lot of useless detail as evidence, but it really meant nothing."

"Eleven lives, in the sense of being extremely selfish in that regard, Creator is as good as the one he created." Eli doesn't really take Creato very seriously, commenting casually, and asks again, "Going?"

Middendorffi nods, "Go."

President Adams' driver drove them back to their place, handing Middendorffi the usual envelope in the process. When they got home, Middendorffi only scanned the envelope before closing it and placing it on top of the shoebox.

Eli asked, seemingly casually, "How much?"

Middendorffi replied, "Fifty thousand."

This was a tenfold increase from the last time. It wasn't much for a so-called "mage," but it wasn't bad when you considered that Middendorffi had been here for less than two hours and had taken 50,000 for doing almost nothing. These 100,000 also have Addams' family to Middendorffi ease the relationship of the meaning; after all, before going to Middendorffi, they kicked out, also a little unkind.

Eli heard the price, not to say, "You know, 100,000 at a glance?". , but rather, "You just put it here?"

"Next time I go out, I'll put it on my card, they always give cash like that, it's a pain in the arse." Middendorffi paused, "You want to use it? Then take it yourself."

"No need. Just reminding you that it's not a good habit to keep money handy like that." Eli heard him say he would use it for himself with a tinge of pleasure, but his mouth said, "It's tradition to give cash for these things, I'm told."

It's a way to get colourful and reduce the trail of money movement, and those are the specific reasons. But Eli didn't know the details, and Middendorffi knew even less, and they didn't care. The matter passed.

In the afternoon, Lupin called. Firstly, he told Middendorffi that the psychological treatment for the Collector and the CID had already been arranged and that Middendorffi would need to make a trip to confirm the effect of the disappearance of the "phantom man" after it had been carried out. Oh yes, Middendorffi has already reported his "All Poisons null" situation to the Collector, so the Collector knows that Suzanne is not actually pestering him. So the Collector knows that he's not actually being stalked by Suzanne.

The second is to ask Middendorffi to meet Creato's situation, although this is no longer the responsibility of the "Collector." Lupin thinks Middendorffi's amnesia is easy to bully but still asks for a mouth.

Middendorffi then told Lupin the summary of what he said to Eli before.

Lupin listened to it, and his comments were not as sharp as Eli's, but the meaning was much the same: "Now I truly believe he's crazy. To imprison his imagination, he killed eleven people without hesitation, and he did not think about the consequences at all! Wouldn't it be better to stay away from this group?"

Middendorffi thought that Creato's idea was still logical and smooth, but with Lupin commenting, Middendorffi could only reply, "He has his ideas."

"Yes, a madman's ideas." Lupin sighed, "Hey, forget it; we don't have to understand him; there are all sorts of people, even things that aren't human. Bear, forget about it, don't take it to heart. We are not experts in criminal psychology; we don't need to explore the prisoner's thoughts. Otherwise, it's easy to get into."

"Good."

"How do you feel about doing this kind of private work this time? If you're happy to do it, I'll recommend more. Some bosses aren't happy with official organisations like us going into their homes to probe for details and are willing to look for private individuals. You don't happen to be too fit for work yet, so find some other work that pays well." Lupin said, "But make sure Eli is willing to work with you, or it's too dangerous."

Middendorffi sniffed and turned his head to Eli, who was looking at the tablet next to him; Eli noticed his movement and turned his head to look at him as well, "What?"

"Lupin said he'd introduce us to this kind of private work in the future." Middendorffi said, "But she said I can't do it alone; it has to be you."

"Of course, I can be with you." Eli laughed silently, "You watch, I'll do the work, and then we'll split the bill."

Middendorffi asked, "So for this morning's, I split it with you too?"

"That won't be necessary; that was supposed to be something you were only invited to and only needed." Eli said, "Even if we're partners, you can take jobs that only require you. I'll accompany you to the scene; no work is required. If I'm needed for a job, we'll charge more, and I'll split the bill."

Middendorffi nodded, and the relay to Lupin turned into the words, "He's willing."

"That's good." Lupin said, "You just happen to be able to see it, he just happens to be able to do it, you two are perfect for each other ..."

After a few more words, Middendorffi finally hung up.

He saw that Eli was still watching the video, so he asked the other party what he was watching. Eli did not answer directly but turned on the amplifier and watched it with him, only to hear the background voice of the video there, "... In this family, usually, the husband is in the drawer to put some money in an envelope when an emergency is needed. When the wife needs money temporarily, she takes it directly from the envelope ..."

Middendorffi: "..."

Eli: "..."

These two look at each other for a few seconds but are destined to be unable to match their brainwaves. Middendorffi opens his mouth and says, "So I'll keep that 50,000 in the house as an emergency reserve as well?" I'm not sure what there is to have for an emergency, though.

Eli raises a slightly raised eyebrow. "You taking advantage of me?"

Middendorffi, baffled: "What?"

Eli saw that he really didn't get it, so he didn't continue the joke but thoughtfully returned, "No need, you keep it. I still have it, and if I really need it, I'll ask to borrow it."

Middendorffi nods, "Good."

Because eleven lives and the church were involved, the villa fire case was highly discussed in the community, and the official briefing came out quickly.

The briefing didn't say anything about Suzanne, only that Creato was mentally ill, killed and set fire to the villa because he had problems with other people, and started the mountain fire. At the same time, it was mentioned that the Hades Society was classified as a "cult" and had been investigated in a separate case, reminding the public to pay attention.

This notice of the process of the crime is written quite detailed, but netizens concerned about the "mysterious factors" part said the words of the bad influence, so it is destined to be unable to explain fully. Middendorffi also saw a video saying that eleven people were actually sacrificed and that Hades would use their lives in an evil ritual in exchange for the chance of someone's resurrection. The tone of voice, the accompanying pictures, and the words were spoken as if they were true. If Middendorffi didn't know the truth, he'd probably believe it.

Eli watched the video together and commented, "Human life for human life? Nice try."

Middendorffi asks, "Is there no such ritual?"

"... Maybe." Eli's answer is somewhat ambiguous, "But never within the grasp of ordinary humans, nor would it take a mere eleven human lives to bring the dead back to life."

The video had by now autoplay to another analysis of the incident, talking about a shipwreck that killed hundreds of people. Once again, this metaphysical video blogger says it must have been a sacrifice with hundreds of people to resurrect someone important ...

Middendorffi wonders, "Human beings, why would they go to such unimaginably large lengths in pursuit of an unattainable outcome?"

Eli looks at him, "Probably because it's too tempting to reach for that result."

Meanwhile, somewhere in a gloomy room, the screen of a mobile phone lit up.

A new message was delivered.

[You must die. Once you die, your daughter will come back.]
