Selene POV
Holding her seething glare for one final beat, I brushed past her without a backward glance. "The next month will be a reckoning for one of us," I called over my shoulder. "I can hardly wait to see who emerges as the victor,". I continued down the corridor towards the girls' room leaving Brooke to stew over the gauntlet I'd thrown at her feet.
A part of me recognized how deeply I was doubling down; how dangerous the whole situation could escalate but I also knew Brooke was the one living in delusions as she thought she could make a fool out of me. Noah and I may have a lot of obstacles to overcome, betrayals and scars that ran bone-deep… but I would damn if I surrendered my status and self-respect to her without a fight to the bitter end.
