Selene POV
I waited until his car rounded the corner before I turned and approached the front door. The familiar scent of pine and earth surrounded me, grounding me… I paused at the front door, my hand hovering over the handle, trying to steady my nerves. Then, with a deep breath, I pushed the door open.
Inside, I was greeted by the warmth of home, the soft glow of the fireplace and the sound of my daughters' laughter drifting from the living room. Their nannies stood at one corner, watching them with a soft smile. The sight of them – happy, safe and unaware of the chaos swirling outside their world – brought tears to my eyes.
I had thought that I'd be able to live without them. To leave this world and leave them in the hands of their father or another woman if I'm lucky but as I stared at them now, I didn't think that I'd be able to.
So, I would stay and fight… I must go against nature again to keep what I hold dear to my heart.
