Xavier POV
Selene didn't show up.
I was trying not to let the smile I had on my face slip as I watched the girls teaching me how to tie a bow perfectly. She said she was going to hurry up and return, why was she taking so much time? This was nearly forty-five minutes since she left. I turned my gaze towards the door, hoping to hear her footsteps coming towards the girls' bedroom but it was just the scuffles of servants and other people outside.
Since we returned, I haven't stopped thinking about what she meant in our last conversation. Did she mean all those things she said? She had clearly stated that I was the father of the girls and that I was very much part of her life. Also, she had insinuated that she felt hemmed in being married to Noah and that only his death could redeem her.
